Through the grapevine, I heard that after the upgrade on Wednesday, we won't be able to minimize.

Anyone else heard anything similar?

What earthly use would that be to anyone? So people can't be on at work?

Weird...and where do you get rumors?

Minimize = opt out of downloading the client?

We’ll be releasing Second Life 1.18.0 on Wednesday, July 11th. The Main Grid will unavailable from 6am-12noon PDT (13:00-19:00 GMT) during this time. New viewers will be required following the release. The Beta Test Grid will be available during the downtime.

I simply cannot imagine any reason why anyone on any development team at any company anywhere would think that was a good idea.

This is definitely one of those "I won't believe it till I see it" rumors.

Remeber what Company we are talking about, dear. But it does sound far fetched even for Linden. I'd like to know what grapevine the OP has been listening to.

Ear to the railroad rail?

*shrugs* I'm not going to worry about this one. It's not like my computer likes things to be minimized anyways. Or.. you know, we could just download the beta grid version and I dunno, try it and see?

after seeing how the .3 client turned out to be as a step towards 1.18, i`d say we`re pritty much screwed as an required update...

You know... it might run a hell of a lot faster if it was DOS based! LOL

Yeah.. I can't see where the rumor came from. I can minimize the beta grid's client just fine. *sighs* Yeah, I'm bored.

Maybe they are trying to eliminate the ability to run multiple viewers? If you eliminate the multis, more individual players could log on, and LL draws more corporate ad cash.

This would be a blow to people with single-core CPUs.. Before I upraded to a dual core, my machine was horrible at doing anything else if SL wasn't minimized.

Actually one change in 1.18 (allowing TCP) should make things more reliable. Assuming they use it and not just allow it ;)

You can minimize! You really, really can! I just checked the beta grid and it minimizes just fine, at least if you are running XP. Dunno about anything else, sorry.

depends how it`s coded and going back to taking the latest .3 version, using a screen+keyboard and mouse directly on the server the sim is on wouldn`t fix anything

They also removed the ability to turn left when walking your avatar. To make a left turn, you must now swing 270 degrees to the right.

Ahh, but actually, it is 270.05 degrees, because of the rounding errors!
