However, I don't agree with the imposition of inventory limits. That sort of suggestion should not have been in there. Even with an unverified account, if someone accumulates a huge inventory, it means they are taking SL seriously. The problem lies more with the legions of zombie alts, who will NOT have huge inventories.

Well, it may not, but the figure of 6 million is illusory. There are not 6 million real, committed citizens of SL - which is what counts.

I'd say there are about 600,000 Serious residents of SL, not including one time sign-ups and the millions of ALTS.

3500 is alot of signatures.

By that reckoning, 3500 is just under 0.6%, which is miniscule. When you consider that false names have almost definately been added, it's even less.

I'm personally expecting no miricles. Any small improvements would be great, but I'm not holding my breath. The idea of this letter seems to me, to be a way of getting LLs attention, and showing that there are a lot of people that are affected by problems right now.
Surely it can't so any harm, and you just never know...

I wouldn't worry too much about the number and validity of signatures. Even if the real figure is 30% below the total, some important people have signed it, websites have reported it, LL has acknowledged it and there is going to be a meeting about it.

I think it's right to put pressure on LL to sort things out and have signed it. But I don't expect miracles. It's in LL's interest to get things running smoothly and establish a good, transparent relationship with users. My feeling is that they are overwhelmed by growth and firefighting more than anything else.

However, what I would like to see is some kind of roadmap for a sustantial improvement to the experience and a set of timescales so that I can plan my activities accordingly. If i have to wait 6 months for a workable platform then so be it - I'll focus on other stuff in the meantime.

Don't know how much use Project Open Letter actually did, but we could still keep making our voice heard.

I found this in the feature voting section...

http://secondlife.com/vote/

From: someone
Prop: 3238 221 votes/44 voters/10 applied
Name: FREE OF BUGS!
Category: miscellaneous
Subcategory: other
Author: Cheeseboat Interflug
Prop Date: 2007-04-27

Feature Detail:
Ok, I have been conversing with alot of other residents and we think that things are getting out of hand. Before new features are to be added, existing issues need to be fixed. I pay for my subscription and I expect to get my moneys worth, as I'm sure all other paying residents do.

So I am starting a petition right now.

Fix the issues before birthing new to make it more "stable"

For some reason it would amuse me if number of signators could be greater than the maximum number of concurrent users, that is, greater than 40,000 or so.

There's nobody in that list of signatores who is any more or less "important" than me, you, faybot, or any other resident.

"Well known" would be a better way to phrase it.

Ok, so LL acknowledged the letter, held a town hall, and now what? I couldn't read through that long log, it was giving me a headache....did they agree to do anything that the letter requested?

Not really. They just thought it would be a good time to do a TH, to assure us that they actually are working hard on the issues presented in the letter. The letter itself didn't accomplish anything in terms of moving LL to do any particular thing, other than hold the TH.

I signed it but how do I know that most of you are over the age of 18 and don't need parental consent? Lol!

It's still very meaningful and I am glad so many have signed. Just because there's no easy way to tell most of the Residents that it exists, doesn't make it less important.

And - you can still sign it. I would hope people wouldn't think - as LL probably does - that one Town Hall solves everything. The concerns in the letter are still valid and ongoing.

Now we get login captchas and age verification.

Progress or not progress?

Speaking of which, are the captchas gone now? I didn't have to use one when I signed in today.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying Usagi. I was just joking around with Sue about how everyone's alts would have to sign the Open Letter for the signatures to exceed the login concurrency number. I think project Open Letter was a good idea in principle. LL is not going to listen to us unless there is a large body of residents who threaten to boycott their services; signatures will get an acknowledgment, but actions speak louder than signatures.

They are indeed, and next to them the age verification brouhaha is a tempest in a teapot.
