From: Mafiawl Mower FYI I have to wait at least 15 minutes to log on and then when I do I am stuck in a place that resembles a red sky devoid of anything but sun. I am unable to TP, converse, search, spend....anything. This has happened 6 times this afternoon and now I have given up. And I've been inworld all morning without any problem beyond a little lag in conversations. So obviously SL is not solely at fault, or everyone, not just you, would have had the same experience.

So obviously SL is not solely at fault, or everyone, not just you, would have had the same experience. It's easy to say it's user error when it's the same individuals who are continuously having the same problems. However, today there are a number of users, including me, who are having problems where we have never had problems before. Nothing about my hardware setup has changed, but today, getting in is hopeless for me. Usually I'm one of the ones sailing through while everyone else is having problems. So please don't be smug, you could be on the outs tomorrow.

See, this is why I asked it as a question, instead of saying it was really the users' fault. I think it might sometimes be the case. I just think that some people should actually check, just in case.
For instance, my RL daughter is in-world right now (I'm on a laptop, she's on our main PC) and having NO problems. Everything is working just fine. She's been to several places in the last hour, and has had no trouble.
It would be nice to figure out why some people are having problems when others are not. That way maybe we could help the people who ARE having them. If a few of the people who are having problems could be helped by changing something on their computers, that would be a good thing, would it not?
Not accusing, not saying it's not SLs fault. Just giving info that may help a few people have better performance.

The statistics bar (which has doc on the home page of F1 help) has lots of interesting numbers in it. It's a bit geeky but once you get used to it, it's pretty easy to tell if a lag problem is on the server side or on your side. In particular, ping user & ping sim, agent counts, sim fps and things under Time are ones I tend to watch.
If you want to report a sim problem to LL, you'll have an easier time if you've been watching these numbers for a while (like, +30 minutes) and can give them some up-front indication of what the problem is.

So far this weekend, I have only had problems with my particular sim (newer class 5 on southern mainland) temporarily dissappearing... meaning a big blue water hole appears in it's place and i get moved out to a neighboring sim. It might stay like this for 10 minutes, then poof, it comes back. It was doing this quite a few times last night. But, other than that problem, I could still rez objects and experienced no unusual lag.

If it happens more than a couple/few times, it's worthy of being reported to Help Request, IMO. Also, they will always tell you that a sim may take 30 minutes to restart - try to be patient if it's been down for less than 1/2 an hour..

this may sound odd but lately i have had fewer "issues" they appear to be fixing stuff or i am just getting lucky but i have been able to keep my shoes on my feet for 2 weeks in a row now. Prior to that I had given up and was not wearing any prim attachments at all (including hair hehe) because it was getting annoying to put myself back together everytime i ported or logged in.

I posted this to its own thread but it fits this discussion aptly. I'm not sure why the different computers have different experiences ONLY on the weekends. During the week, everything has been kosher with both rigs. The numbers this weekend don't looks substantially higher than the ones I saw last week when my laptop purred like a kitten.
------------------------------------------- Not been on SL for too long but something I've noticed. I run SL normally on a laptop that is below specs. I understand that I won't have excellent performance. But I've been quite surprised how smoothly it runs.
Weekends are another story. As more concurrent users come online, the laptop rig completely fails to run SL. If I can log on, it practically freezes trying to run it.
Now, I have a desktop rig that far exceeds SL specs. On weekends, when I experience crippling lag on my laptop, I would expect the desktop to have the same problems, thinking that the problem is with the grid and not with my rig. But lo and behold, while my laptop locks up under the strain of SL on weekends, my desktop logs on without any problem. I have full functionality via the same internet connection but with a different system.
Does the crush of weekend users somehow make SL demand more and more system resources, effectively upping the system requirements?

About the only thing that seems to be working properly is the monthly premiums and tiers being withdrawn from my paypal acct......
