- teleports only work randomly - if you're lucky and TP works then water randomly doesn't show up - can't build because everything snaps randomly around all over the place - rezing only works randomly - search only works randomly - attachments randomly end up attached to your ar$e
All I ever read is how LL claim to have fixed these issues, yet I still see them every single time I spend more than 5 minutes on the grid... seriously frustrating. Are LL spending any time addressing these issues because I don't see them making any forward motion at all. How do others deal with these problems? Do you just ignore them? Do you hide out in skyboxes?

I try to ignore them............but that doesn't work very well at all. Hanging out in skyboxes doesn't work either since it really only helps with FPS a little. Lag is the problem and lag comes from Linden Labs servers and data base issues. I see no improvements coming in the near future.........and probably not even in the long term future unless somehow LL decides to shut growth down so they can catch up. And I really don't think they will intentionally do that.......it's a perpetual problem that I seriously doubt LL has the knowledge or resources to fix. Before someone pipes up with the usual "remember when 10 K caused SL to go to hell" stuff and "it's cutting edge". I'm very much aware of both. The issue is SL does not work as advertised.........they are constantly behind the growth. The growth they fostered. And it should have been absolutely no surprise to them of the problems they would encounter.........after all it's their software and hardware. They are the "experts". They made the mistake. They need to fix it. They are in over their heads. Second Life is all but unusuable for people like me who want to have fun, build, shop, socialize, and sightsee. Also those times when 10 K made SL unusable only lasted about a week.........then it was 15 K, 20 K. But they have been stuck at 30 K for about three weeks now. Seems they may have reached their stone wall.

Its gone beyond the jokeing stages now , This sim is getting worse by the day .
Im a pretty patient person ... i understand some times things dont work ... i know that problems come up and need to be addressed .. i get the fact that servers get overloaded with traffic ... hell im even starting to understand networking .
But what i dont get is WHY OH WHY OH WHY do we still have to put up with this crap every weekend ?
even the basic features such as pointed out by Jebediah Brown are broken .
I know that not a damn thing will change after we all post here moaning about how sucky this sim has become ... but you know what ?... with all this shooting yourself in the fool LL ...pretty soon the foot will be gone .

Tyci: ahh, so there's less problems on private sims? that's interesting. If I was a conspiracy nut I might have 1 or 2 conclusions to draw from that I guess I'll go find a private sim with a sandbox and see if I can at least feed my building addiction. If things prove better out there I guess I'll start packing up my belongings on the mainland, sell up, drop down to basic and live out my life island hopping.

My experience is that for the last six months or more my performance on Rosieri on the mainland where my shop is has been just as good as that on the private island where I live, sometimes better.

I've just spent an hour building on one of the new eastern continent sims and had none of the problems I have building on my own southern continent land - no random object snapping or other lag related issues. While it appears some people like coco get decent mainland performance it seems like quite a few others don't (and my sim barely has 3 people on it at any given time). Oh well, I'll keep collecting data points.

I have been in SL for 5 months and my subjective view is that performance has neither improved nor deteriorated during that time. SL is sort of creaking under the pressure of use but I for one think SL is a great achievement and hats off to LL.

Had a few TP issues which have been cleared up pretty quickly but none of the others mentioned and I live on the mainland and build everyday. Did have a freezing/sticking issue last for a couple of days but that was resolved.

I had no problems rezzing, tping, using attachments building and I spent 6 hours from 9 am in today. So If you are in a high newbie trafic area yeah, nothing works. If you are out in the new lands, its worth every penny.

The load it is bearing is almost too much. The server wasnt designed for that and is failing, so there you go.

Just how are we supposed to know which sims are class 3, 4 or 5? I'm an average premium account with my original 1st land. If I'm reading you correctly you are suggesting I pick up, sell my stuff and move to a newer class sim. Why is that necessary in the first place? What you are saying is that in order for the game to work best I need to go to some private island that is on a higher class server to avoid the problems.....those higher class servers are privately owned. The owner is the one I pay but the owner still pays LL their cut.........that makes a markup for me to have to pay. Pay more to get the performance I should be getting anyway? How do you justify such nonsense?
That might be the "work around" but that is unacceptable to me. Tell me where I'm wrong. I want to remain premium, I want to keep the land I have, and I want the performance promised me. That's not too much to ask I don't think.
Oh it is Linden Labs.................they own the servers............ALL the servers.

in my firstland sim its really a crap shoot, thing are usually humming right along (altho for a mostly empty sim it got some of the poorest script performance ive seen to date) then with no reason 0 sim fps for a few hours (mind you nothing changed) then back again to ok
i dont log in much these days but when i do i want to accomplish things, sims crapping out for no apperent reason @ almost scheduled times doesnt help any
this has been going on for months, is there a log of sim performance? is anyone looking at it ? the key to a system like SL is constant maintance, not of just a codebase but of hardware , ..with some upgrades here and there to keep things interesting
its a shame SL has never felt like this is going on, there could be some real oppounity here rather than just a neato, disposable toy

From: Thunderclap Morgridge If you are out in the new lands, its worth every penny. My experience is the exact opposite. Class 5 does work great, but as soon as there's even the slighest little hick-up in LL's network they causes the craziest set of problems (can't tp to them, can't tp off them, transactions fail, ghosted when I log off, IMs won't get through, group chat won't work, etc). Once I get off them and only go to the older sims I don't encounter a single problem anymore.

This is really interesting, so many different performance experiences. Myself I'm with Conifer. I've also been around for around 5 months and it's always been a bit flakey. I've experienced periods much, much worse than the past week, in fact recently things have been reasonably good. I live in a mainland sim, my shops are all mainland, and most of the places I hang out are mainland. When I do venture onto islands things seem to be little better or worse.
And yet I constantly hear from premium account holders "Oh it's overloading, too many free accounts, they should be banned...yada, yada, yada. It can't be that simple guys. I was on with 39,000 others a couple days ago and things were working OK for me, on the mainland. Frankly I was amazed.
Here's my idea. Every time you meet someone who's new (I refuse to use the "N" word, its patronising and offensive) do something nice for them. You'll build up lots of good karma and you'll be amazed how much your SL experience improves. Might even stop some of you kvetching quite so much!
And in answet to the OP's question "what do you do about them?" Yes. I ignore them and get on with my life.

The only thing that seems to be acting the same are a few lindens ....But other then that nothing works more then 50% of the time.

No real problems are... only attachments that replace themselves every now and then, but even that less then it used to be.
And oh.. I am on the mainland.

My sim varies from day to day. It doesn't seem to be related to load at all. It can be great when over 30,000 people are on, and horrible when we drop to 15,000 (a rarity these days). I never know, literally from one moment to the next, whether I'll have no problems, a few, or a lot.
I have a question for y'all, though: has anyone researched the differences between different computer systems, how they are running, and the occurence of the problems?
I ask this because I seem to have problems a LOT less than many people. I don't know my system specs (hubby's the techie), but I do know that I have more problems if I am running ANY memory-hog programs along with SL, or if my C drive is getting full. It's much better if I run only SL, and always improves after I do some deleting.
So, how many problems that are blamed on SL performance are actually caused by the person's computer, and what they are running, and not SL at all? Does anyone know?

From: Serenarra Trilling So, how many problems that are blamed on SL performance are actually caused by the person's computer, and what they are running, and not SL at all? Does anyone know? I wish someone could do this study, because I'm really tired of hearing how "nothing works in SL" when I'm not having any of the supposed "universal" problems. My new computer (which is not a cutting-edge game machine) runs SL just fine, except for times of extreme database load or in exceptionally crowded sims. I've spent a lot of time studying Preferences and making sure I've chosen appropriate settings, I keep my Inventory as low as feasible, empty my trash, don't load my avatar down with prims, and defrag my hard drive often. I'd love to know how much these housecleaning chores contribute to my performance quality, and conversely, how many residents are having severe problems because they don't pay attention to maintenance issues.

It is terrible
02-25-2007 10:07
FYI I have to wait at least 15 minutes to log on and then when I do I am stuck in a place that resembles a red sky devoid of anything but sun. I am unable to TP, converse, search, spend....anything. This has happened 6 times this afternoon and now I have given up. MY computer is fine but SL is not. I pay high tier payments owning some 34,000 sq m of land. I am not a natural complainer at all yet when a land, virtual or not, takes my money I expect something in return.
Upgrades and maintenance are quite acceptable but lack of credible reasons are not.
I am trying to build a business here ( a real one) ....fat chance.
Good wishes to you all.
