That video is breathtaking. I'm off to hunt for his sculptures in world, right now!

A tour of his sculptures would be great as would an exhibition. Many many residents would be interested.

If any other owners of Starax art want to get together and host a Starax festival with me, Id be happy to open my island up for a week or so and we could invite the public to see some of this stuff in person. Send me an IM in game and lets see what we can do. A Starax festival is a great idea, but speaking for myself, I don't want to pull up my sculptures and move them to some other parcel for it. Instead of a central gallery of his art, what about starting some sort of "Second Life Starax Ring"--a group of teleporters linked specifically to his sculpture? That way people could not only see his art, but the use that's being done with it. (For example, the GLBT Holocaust Memorial in Provincetown incorporates his "Fallen Angel" as part of the structure. The sculpture has much more impact in that context that it does just sitting in the open. There are several other examples of his work in world where its placement seems crucial to the experience.) Just a thought. I'm actually in favor of getting his work exposed to a larger audience by any means possible, largely in hopes that he'll find a return to adulation too tempting to pass up. ![]() Kam _____________________

Kamael, Winter, I love the ideas! Let's do this! I'll IM you both when I get back from work today.
If anyone wants to check out my Starax sculptures, Samson, Nature, Fallen Angel, and Goldfish, head on over to the far west side of Da Boom. Samson is outside, Fallen Angel is on the roof, Goldfish is swimming in the water, and Nature is in my office in Da Boom Tower. |

I've hunted for many of his works in-world, and found a large number of 'em at the Second Louvre museum. I wish I'd not been a newbie when he left: I'd probably have gotten a wand, but I *definitely* woulda gotten a goldfish bowl (there was one at home, but it went bye bye) and an orca. Probably the kitty with the pidgeons, too.
...an ya, if anyone has the above jes sittin around (not the wand, of course, cuz it's no transfer), lemme know, 'kay? An "The Artist Formerly Known As Starax," if yer out there, know that your work is well beyond appreciated: you are the Michelangelo of our virtual world, and your work is the stuff of legend and awe. Instead of a central gallery of his art, what about starting some sort of "Second Life Starax Ring"--a group of teleporters linked specifically to his sculpture? Or, an even simpler idea - what about just a notecard dispenser with LMs of locations of his stuff accessible for public viewing? Name the notecard something like "The Starax Rough Guide"... or something. ![]() You could even put it in a cool looking dispenser that would reflect one of his famous pieces? That way, any of us who are fans of his work could get a copy of the dispenser to put on our land for others to be able to tour his stuff. The notecard could even be updated every couple of weeks with new Starax scupture locations? It'd also help promote some of the SL art galleries and other places that not only have a Starax piece but also exhibit works from other SL artists. They'd come there to see the Starax sculpture and... "oh, look at that one too!" Is there a "Fans of Starax" group? |

Is the gravesite still around? I still have a picture of the wand in my profile as part of my quest. I was only 1000L short when he left. Maybe someday......

They are way to big to have in any one location, but it would be nice to have a directory of where they are! I think this list points out the problem of having a Starax gallery type exhibit--you'd need a whole sim just to set them all out! I like the idea of a notecard with LMs to all the statues though--it would be a lot easier to set up than a teleporter ring. I also note the Cthulhu sculpture on the list, which brings up an interesting point--what about his Avatars? The wand and his sculptures have gotten mentioned, but I have two of his avatars (the male angel and the Cthulhu). These are every bit as amazing as his sculptures (as anyone who's ever encountered Cthulhu on the dance floor can attest--this thing moves incredibly well). How could we get those displayed? Have an "Everybody wear their Starax Avatar Day?" (Actually, now that I think about it, it might not be a bad idea.) Kam (And yes, I typed the sleeping one's name three times. Judging from events in my real life over the past several years, we're apparently old friends, so I'm not worried about it.) _____________________

I have the giant cobra. I don't keep it out all the time, since it's a bit primmy, but if people want to see it I'll be glad to find a place on my land for it. (I wish I'd bought the Cthulhu, too. Come back, Starax!)

I would love to come see the cobra! It was one of the most captivating pieces on the video. I hate snakes, but that one fascinates me. Maybe you could set up an afternoon or evening for a few hours for people to stop by and see it? I have some land with prims available - I could put up a sky platform for people to display some things short-term for viewing, too.
Does anyone know if any of his art is available for purchase from galleries, or is it all in private collections now? And in most cases, is there only a single copy? |

I didn't know the Vertu Cow was from Starax. I found it sitting around for free somewhere. I love that thing - it moos and moves. If anyone wants a copy of it, I have one out at my store in Shoofly free to copy @ http://slurl.com/secondlife/Shoofly/32/24.

I've put the cobra out on our land... I like how he looks there, so I'll leave him up for awhile. I don't know how to make a slurl, but the location is Kishijoten 79,227,38.

Cobra looks great! I wouldn't want to sit on that bench with him hovering over me though!

Are any of you familiar with this artist? His work has been compared to Starax. I really want the gold lion! "Winged Lion" by Nomasha Syaka See next week's Metaverse Messenger for an upcoming article on him. P2 _____________________

I added another location for Fountain Girl, in Panache.
I could not tp to the location for Handstand in Apollo. I could not find the Devil and the Angel at that location in Starax. (Did I miss it?) I just acquired two new ones! "Tree" and "Lion" can also be found near my others in Da Boom - see the SLURL's in the quote... They are way to big to have in any one location, but it would be nice to have a directory of where they are! Not Starax, but for those into very colorful and realistic looking animals (sea creatures), be sure to check out Bathsheba Dorn's studio:
