My Real Estate crack was about the LL CEO that just resigned. He was the guy that orchestrated the open sim bait-and-switch.

Anybody with a brain knows that opensim has nothing to do with SL, and openspace is park or sparsely developed land (heck, Websters has this). I'm sorry English comprehension isn't your strong point.

Thinkpad T400 (rtfarchive, I've mentioned this before). Nothing special about this particular machine.

All the ones placed recently are on full sim, Linden-owned parcels. Many are actually away from mainland as a whole, or were intended for some time. In some areas, the tier payers were wanting those hubs.
Yes, we wanted hubs based on their original definition (bait and switch) Watch out what you wish for.

From: someone
I think that was part of their task, no? I believe they were working on "first hour" stuff, as are some others.
I just looked up Big Spaceship's twitter feed. No mention of Second Life. They may have taken their hand out of that fire and ran home to Brooklyn.

Thanks, although the link doesn't seem to go anywhere for me. (On the other hand, I'm one of those who can't get the new SL blog to work two days in a row without quitting whatever browser I'm using and flushing the session information, so it could just be me.)

I wonder if they could be thinking of retiring some InfoHubs that have been problematic for same-sim landowners.

Apropos nothing in particular: I found Boardroom surreal: Eight bots and a geisha. On the plus side, they were all very well behaved. ;)

I went to Castle Valeria to see what's up, and found a castle with no informational material at all (not much of an infohub, then, is it?) and several broken bots with names like "Name2Key Randomlastname" (probably knocked off with a sim-crash and reconnected too quickly). About the only fun thing to do was pushing bots off the castle wall and that got old quickly.

I went to the Arapaima infohub (near Ursula) and there was only one other avatar there. A short, naked, heavily armed girl taking her picture in front of the no nudity and no weapons sign.

I thought it was Immy for a minute, but it wasn't.

It's Open Space. Open Sim is a completely other grid. (^_^)

CPU: AMD (2x AMD64 FX-74) (3000 MHz)
Memory: 2048 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 8600 GT/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW! (SLI Dual)

But this is the standard operational procedure of mainland abusers - alting and personal attacks. The point is that I really do hope that Linden Lab has a plan to make these places work and not infect the mainland with more nuisance plots just to pretend they have as many users as WOW.
Why does WOW even ever become a factor? WOW is a game. GAAAAAAAAAMMMMEEEEEE! Pre-rendered, prefab, pre-loaded, pre-paid, and pretentious. Sure, there are more people. Because more people want to play games. The video game console market relies on this. Saying people go to WOW because (insert anti-agenda here) in SL is like saying people buy the Nintendo Wii because Bill Gates eats babies. (=_=)

If you can't see something 113 meters away, you really do need an upgrade.

Intel Pentium Dual Core, 3.2Ghz
8GB memory
Windows 7 x64
Nvidia 8800GT 512MB.

I can easily see your property from over the wall at the infohub.

They still are involved, yes.

We discussed that at Blondin's OH yesterday. He is open to the idea. I suggested a couple good candidates.

Yes. It's a strange little place, and strikes me as more of a temporary location for a hub more than any of the others, too.

Mari, this is nice to see finally happen - common sense. A sim can only hold so many avatars at once. I think this move actually shows that Linden Lab (With the voice of reason being Big Spaceship) is realy trying to treat the premium customers with a little more respect. The one-sim infohub concept finally got through to them. There is hope.

From: Galena Qi
The number of avatars is capped at about 30, even though it's a full sim. It keeps the chaos down but I had to wait for 5 minutes to get in.
Hmm, LL capped their new infohub islands at 30 but in the mainland sims where we pay tier they have the avatar limit up to 50 to accommodate the infohub loiterers. The mainland sim shares resources with all of the other sims attached (and the residents paying tier there) and LL constantly drops noobs there every hour of the day. These mainland sim Infohubs constantly use the resources of the sim (lag). These sims only get a break when they finally crash from over use (inconveniencing the tier payers in the sim.

LL has run out of excuses to keep these laggy, unattended grefier hang outs in sims where their premium customers pay tier. They still have not moved on the suggestion to put one of these parking lots in Linden Village and transport a slew of new accounts there every 15 minutes.

I am not sure what to think yet. On one side it is nice to be able to simply get into Miramare now. On the other hand, I have no real content skill. I just love to help new residents find their way. If there are no more new residents coming to Nova, hmmm...

There are a lot of bots in the water now, and people landing there are jumping over the side. I guess because they think that's where all the action is.

Thanks Marianne for posting the new places,
I sped teleported around, took some pics waiting for a friend to login.
Most were nice builds, but also it seems just bots or ghosted ppls.
The last one Moose was very active att.

I still owe you a boat ride!

New infohub review
04-19-2009 08:52
It's really interesting how LL is managing the new infohubs. I spent a few hours at Moose Beach last night helping newbies. A few observations:

The number of avatars is capped at about 30, even though it's a full sim. It keeps the chaos down but I had to wait for 5 minutes to get in.

This infohub has scripting enabled, which is very helpful for translation, but opens the hub up to more griefing. There were several attacks while I was there, and I had no idea who to contact to get them shut down. I thought the moaning zombie particles were hilarious, but I don't think the newbies were impressed.

The hub appears to be fed from different localizations on a rotating basis. When I first arrived, almost everyone was speaking Spanish. A half hour later, the new arrivals were all Brazilian or Portuguese, and an hour later, they were all speaking French. It reminded me of the Riverworld sci fi novels! Nice idea - it means there's always someone you can talk to.

There is absolutely no help or info available other than a signboard for video tutorials. The most common question asked (after "how to I get $/sex";) was "How do I get out of here?"

LL has got to do something about bots and ghosts at infohubs! I can't think of anything more offputting than arriving at a "welcome" area full of unresponsive avatars.
