Should we lock 12 of the 13 redundant Land Bot threads?

I was...until a landbot drove me out of the land market and I no longer needed to be obsessively logging on to SL. Oh the irony...

Speaking of which, I feel bad that Gina was taken advantage of by a bot. It just feels like we have gotten the point by now. LL should do something. Residents need to be careful. M-rlin is a slime-bucket. Let's move on.

Landbots aren't the problem here though, you made a mistake setting your land for sale for the wrong price to anybody. In the old days before landbots, you would have lost it just as quick, and might not have gotten it back then, either.

the landbot threads are for the most part preaching to the converted. however, i dont think it is right to, in effect, 'give up' and stop complaining about them. if there was a more productive recourse im sure many people would take that route. but i am not aware of any means of voicing discontent outside of whinging on this forum.
then again if AR's are the 'voice of the community' perhaps we should organise an 'AR merlin' campaign?

Nina, an AR campaign would likely be ignored because only the person who was taken advantage of technically has a gripe, rounding people up to AR when they have no actual abuse to report but are joining in filing "sympathy AR's" leads to further abuse of the system and increases likelihood that LL will toss the lot.

It isn't that we cannot affect change, but the mob has to be large enough and angry enough for LL to take notice (anyone who was around during the island price hike of 2006 will remember the depth of community outrage.) So far, there are a limited number of people who've been hit by slimebag landbots who wouldn't return land when it was clearly a mistake, which doesn't make it any less wrong, but the incidences haven't been so much that LL is forced to take action. The things we don't know is whether or not there is a fix in the works, LL has said that there was but we haven't seen it yet. My guess is that they haven't come up with a fix that can't be worked around in short order by a clever code writer. Although why they can't just add a "transfer land" function that bypasses the land sale system is a good question, I suspect the answer is that it just isn't high enough on the priority list and other things that are affecting larger number of residents take precedence.

I think this is what people aren't understanding strenght in numbers works best posting a million threads on an issue just makes things look silly especially if you are the only one making the threads.

Honestly the best approach despit the fact i think at this point I have been told I like bots or something is for all those hurt by them to join a group and keep in touch and advertise somehow either by making a website or ingame making some kiosks or something to join the "movement" if you got hurt by it. When they have a large enough case of hurt people a thought out process or effecting lobbying can be done maybe start with a protest (its been done before I have been a part of 2 protests and signed petitions and letters etc) but just posting to the resident answers forum well it doesn't get very far beacuse in all honesty its not a great approach. For one thing its the wrong sets of eyes seeing it. Linden Labs needs to see it.

Anyhow there are some angry people around lately because people are agreeing with them but asking them to take a more sensible approach I gUess we have a new generation of sl'ers entering the game on the heals of the generation that we had at christmas (the make money fast generation i call them hehe). Anyhow such is life time for a new theme i guess where less is more and more is not necessarily better.

In strictest terms Gina only gets to yell "Fraud!" if one of the following two things happened:

1) The landbot set her parcel for sale at L$1 (or some other low price)

2) The landbot set her parcel for sale to Anyone

If it so happens (and... gosharootie... I think this might just be the case) that Gina was the person that priced the parcel and set it for sale to anyone I guess it was her own fault.

You might feel bad that LL is not improving its interface for land sellers to minimize this kind of error - and there fore minimize the ill-will, reduced revenue (when people lwave SL or at least exit land owning), and bad-mouthing they undoubtedly get to friends of the people who got screwed because they didn't ralize the magnitude of the risks they were taking BECAUSE LL WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH ABOUT THIS TO TELL THEM. You might feel bad that LL is pissing in its own soup in this way, if you care about SL and its ultimate success. You might even exhibit a little responsiblity of your own and help fix this problem. Unless, of course, you don't care...

first of all a friend of gina's posted that gina has made numerous land purchases and sales so she is not new to the process

what she failed to do was double check before hitting ok after all the other screens to make sure the price was what she wanted it asks more then once and she has prior experience she should have known better

Personally, I'm against locking threads unless they get really vicious. People like to talk. What harm is it doing you? No-one is being forced at gunpoint to read landbot threads. If you don't like them, don't read them!

I wish. Since two updates ago, I'm Ruth more than I'm Raymond. And the scary part is, I'm starting to like it.

I'll move on and and stop talking about bots, when LL takes action one way or anouther. Until then this is the only way to keep people aware (many are still unaware until they get screwed by one), warn people to be safe, and keep it fresh in the minds of the Lindens.
