I like the intelligent griefers the best. I dislike push-griefers, object-griefers, particle-griefers, gesture-griefers ect. I enjoy seeing the ones who are creative with their words when they grief, and really know how to piss someone off. Those are the fun ones.

I mean, unless you're under their fire, I suppose.

In Taiwanese, the literal meaning of the term "white-eyed" is "eyes without pupils." It refers to someone who "looks without seeing." In Taiwan's online communities, the term "little white" has been coined for cursing someone's behavior for being both childish (little) and causing grief (being white-eyed).

Nearly all griefers do it to gain esteem of their peers. Few go out griefing without some kind of an audience, usually other griefers. Since they have nothing to offer the online society, this is the only way they can achieve any sense of accomplishment.

Griefers often communicate with one another by bringing out the same tired old collection of toys griefers were using last year, thinking themselves clever.

The most damage the griefers do, though, is to themselves. By buying into the griefer subculture, they completely relinquish their personal individuality, instead mimicking to perfection what other griefers do. They lose their identity as people despite their efforts to cling to one another for emotional support and validation. Instead of striking a blow for their individuality, they simply become a bit more noise in the channel, to be filtered out.

Understanding these traits helps one deal with griefers in general. Some folks are just horsing around, but as for the persistent, unapologetic griefers - as one might expect, the aberrant behavior is simply an unanswerable cry for help. All you can really do is feel sorry for them for a moment, then ban them, eject them, and eventually have them removed from the grid. There's nothing you can do to help them.
