Is it just my random bad luck lately, or is griefing getting worse. I can't seem to visit any of the infohubs lately without getting seriously griefed. I'm not just talking annoying behavior. The other night someone turned me invisible and I had to log out to see myself again. I've been getting pushed around within a minute of arriving at an infohub. Someone is always bringing in a jet plane or some other monstrosity that completely takes over the place, let alone the annoying noises. The other night, I was taking an NCI class at one of their locations and someone rezzed a huge cube in the middle of the class, totally disrupting it for 5 minutes. At another recent class, we had to listen to the teacher over someone making farting noises the whole time. Some times you can tell who is responsible and file a report, other times not. I still don't know who made me invisible. I was captured within a few seconds of landing and was sent flying so couldn't figure out what hit me.
If something isn't done to reduce this behavior, a lot of people will start leaving SL. I'm here to have fun and network, not to be harassed. Besides filing a report or protecting yourself with no push scripts, what do you think can be done to reduce this behavior. Would citizen patrols of the infohubs and other public or "home" places help? It's like being at the mercy of bullies and terrorists!

You usually need 5 abuse reports to get a Linden to take notice. The Justice League is a group of citizens dedicated to allowing everyone to have a good experience while in the game. They do patrol these areas and use the tools that everyone has to try and get harrassment and other griefing stopped. Send me an IM in-world and I'll give you more info.

Top tool bar, Help > Bumps, pushes and hits Granted, if it's too crowded, the list will be too populated --and with some innocent bumps, but you may just get lucky and see who did it.

My only fear would be to have this group cross over to the dark side and use their power for evil. For example, using their power for their own personal needs. ie:" I DONT LIKE BATMAN ANYMORE, LETS GET HIM BANNED FROM THE SANDBOX" Otherwise, taking out the bad guys? Go for it.

Monica, which Infohubs? There are people who want to do something about this kind of thing. Please tell of any griefer "hotspots" you run into.

The Justice League is a group of people who don't just want superhero avatars, don't just want to "roleplay" as superheroes, but want to _BE_ superheroes in SL. However, they get the idea that they are "righteous" and "the good guys" into their minds so strongly that they often don't think that they are in the wrong when they clearly are. I've seen innocent people stalked by them, innocent people griefed by them, JL people harassing people who are talking among themselves in a PG area with nobody else around who let on occasional swear slip. For every good deed I have seen by the Justice League I have seen two misdeeds.

For every good deed I have seen by the Justice League I have seen two misdeeds. The Justice League is simply a group of volunteers dedicated to public service. There are many groups in Second Life who buy or wear superhero avatars who aren't members of the League. Few of them mentor their members on how best to be courteous and helpful as we do, and few of them have strict no-weapons policies as the League does. We certainly do not stalk people, nor grief them - it is well and widely known that we do not even carry weapons, let alone use them on anyone. Despite having nearly 70 members, and having been in operation well over a year at this writing, no member of the League has ever had a complaint filed against them with Linden Lab, or suspended for any period of time due to such a complaint. The aim of the League has been, and will always be, to help enable citizens to live their Second Lives as they see fit, however they define that. We hold tolerance and citizen's freedoms and rights to privacy in very high regard. In fact, these are foundational concepts to the League's operation. Stories of this sort are simply inaccurate, and benefit no one.

I don't know much about your group Kalel, but I must congratulate on your name. You have taken two characters from two of my favorite movies. I salute you.

As for disruptive noises, turn on sound beacons to find the offender. Lots of fun tools from that point to take care of the problem. I have many in my inventory.

I've been griefed on occasions, but I have enough gadgets and shields (custom made) to get them bored and leave. And if someone is only verbally abusive, mute and ignore.

Horoldthe: Could you explain more about how to turn on sound beacons?
I too am somewhat cautious about vigilante groups. I think most pple start off by just trying t ignore griefers and only when it gets really annoying do they do something about it. I'd like the Lindens to take this problem seriously. I actually think it's a more serious issue than age verification or voice chat that they seem to be putting a lot of energy into. If it's true that it takes 5 reports before they do something about a griefer, that's a lot of griefing if you assume that only 5% of folks would actually go thru the bother of filing a report. Wish there were a way to easily report a griefer, maybe like to old rating system that would get periodically reviewed by the Lindens.

I completly agree with Monica. In my opinion Lindens reaction are very slow. You have to report and report and report griefer to get any action from Lindens. I tested it during one month (my land was griefed by neighbour). Sometimes I had to wait up to one weak for Lindens action (ok - once they destroyed completly the griefers bulding but in hour I had another problem with him).
I am against things like age verification but from other side I would like to have very clear policies in SL about breaking rules here. I bet we have thousands of very young players among us who have fun with griefing.
I have bad experiences with griefers from my first hour in SL. So maybe because of it now I am completly "griefproof" but land griefers. Anyway - I agree - that some people could leave SL because of being griefed.
Sorry I have to point it again. "Online support" with reaction time from 1 day up to 30 days and more (checked) in fact is not online support. This is one of the things I found most annoying and unproffesional in second life.

and an annoying interface
06-16-2007 14:30
Was hot air balloon touring last night and floated over some guys apartment building. We noticed that there were 50 giant mutant flexi dicks stuck around, even 'through' his building. Due to the haphazard layout, it was obvious the owner didnt do the decorating himself and was surely the result of a griefing attack. Figured Id do the guy a favor and file a report. Then the snafu. An AR asks the name of the griefer. Checking for ownership of these monster schlongs, we find a name that when entered into the 'search' box doesnt come up. Which leads me to believe the greifers account is already snuffed. However, thats not the point. Even if this miscreant has been deleted, his giant dicks are still there for all the prudes to freak out over. So trying to save these morally superior types from seeing such lewdness was an annoying task. Figured if I could get a report in there, then some LL staff member could tp in and remove them. Used to be a day when you could look up a Linden in the search and IM them for assistance. Ha! They turn out the lights now and hide behind the sofa when you knock. How do you fill one of these reports out if you cant enter a bad guys name?

Explain carefully why you did that so you don't get yourself in trouble though! Be sure to include a screen shot and use a lot of details in the info field.

But this is what happens I guess when you live in a society where small number of police don't come out of the station unless they are called and have the dodgeyphone system off the hook half the time.

I don't think that griefing is on the increase but the quality of the griefers sure has gone downhill. I guess they just don't make them like they used to.
