My employer had a health screening yesterday and on the form was the question: How much sleep do you average a night? Well when I handed the form to the nurse she exclaimed that I must try to get between 6 to 8 hours of sleep each night.
Ah hahahaha….hahahaha…ah ahaa…ha…ahhhh…pheeeeew.
So anyway I thought this would be an interesting poll. Also it would be fun to know what was the longest you were on SL for a solid stretch…not counting potty breaks and crumbs on the keyboards. Mine was a 13 hour marathon that included; buying my first piece of land, erecting a house, deleting the house by accident several times, and shopping for furniture, plus numerous sundry activities I’m sure. Oh and as far as sleep?
What’s sleep? :-P

The longest I have been on so far I think is 5-6 straight. Now there has been a day or 2 (not 3 yet) that I got on, had to do RL for an hour, got back on and so on and so forth throughout the day and night.

But hey, I am still new kinda and learning and having to repeat things when I screw up{thirty day birthday day is tomorrow (SAT)} just like ------buying my first piece of land, erecting a house , deleting the house by accident several times, and shopping for furniture, ---- the poll creator.....

Anyway, yes I could use more sleep but I have always been told to reduce my stress by doing an enjoyable activity. So there ya go

Hi,

Cool poll :p

The longest I stayed on was from 1 pm till 1am so that's 12 hours straight! :D
After I logged out I went out for clubbing in RL and got home at 7am

It was a looooong day then...

Greetz,

Camden

I voted 4 to 6. On weekends I get in 8 to 10 occasionally. One snowy Saturday, I logged on around 9AM and logged off at 3AM Sunday Morning. Now that wasn't straight time at the computer, as I step away frequently while on SL to do RL stuff, but that was a continuous period of being logged on.

I stayed on longer when I first joined with my first SL love here ( all day and night) but after the newness wore off and we broke up I started getting my normal 8hrs a night sleep. Its a fun game but my RL is much more fun so I am spending much less time here in SL anymore and spending my money on things that far out weigh spending money on a virtual shopping spree LOL!

How does anyone stay logged on for 18 hours? I'm lucky to get 20 minutes without a crash.

During a snowstorm no less, so there was cooperation from the power company and cable provider. I generally run crash free, with occasional bad stretches such as this week, especially if I am sticking around my home or unoccupied areas.

I have had a few 18hr days inworld. 10hr stretces are commonplace for me. I voted in the what's sleep catagory. Sleep is horrible, I've never liked to sleep. Always afraid I'll miss something if I am not awake i guess.

I get only fractionally less sleep post-SL than I did pre-SL. I have averaged 4 to 6 hours a night for years. What difference I have seen is due to individuals I have met being in different time zones and interacting with them has required adjustments to my on-line time..

There's a couple of things that are "wrong" with this thread.
1. Everyone's getting along
2. Everyone's basically admitting that they love SL

It's gotta stop!

*gears up for negativity mode*
Oooooooooouuuuuhhhh! "12 hours and no crashes"???? Oooooooooohhhh!!
You've obviously not tried driving on the Linden roads then!!

:)

The best freebie vehicle for the job that I've found is the BMW motorbike. Many of the others are to skittish. Just tap the up-arrow to nudge it along the road. Slow right down for the sim crossings. keep asn eye on mimi-map. DO NOT try to build up speed.

Once you get the controls and speeds right and can stay on the road (and not go under it too much), you're into *serious* sleep deprivation. Get good enough and you crash only because your head has dropped down and jammed the keyboard. That's a crash!
It's a completely different way of exploring SL. There's all sorts of stuff that you'd never see if you only went for places in Search. Landmark them - because unless you have a 'wearable' vehicle, you can't leave the bike unsat on the Linden road for too long.
Flying along the roads isn't the same because you're generally moving too fast and a shade too high.

Tip: Out in the wild west of the new continents, where the roads are not paved, turn on Parcel Boundaries in View, so you can see the jagged edges of the Linden Road land. Ban lines and No Object entry can bring an abrupt halt to a record breaking sim-crossing count.

So, all you sub-12 hour softies, get on yer bikes! :)

How many hours Sling?
---Don't ask! It's beyond bragging about. It's embarrassing.

- and that's only road trips as a rest from playing with building/scripting ....

We kinda do that, Sling, except we sail along the linden waterways. There's a *lot* of water to cover if you wanna hit most of the Linden straits.

The most time I spent in SL in single stretches involved walking along the road though. :)

I want an attachment pedal bike with cruise control. My experiments with avatar walking cruise control (via script) fail as the av either doesn't move or perpetually accelerates. I don't like using a key holder.

We need more sleep! It's good for us!

LOL

Last November I spent so much time in-world, rather than sleeping, that I made myself sick. I have had to be more moderate since then.

However, if you don't count little breaks, on my days off I can still easily do an eighteen hour stretch. But now I'll have days where I'm only in for a few hours or not at all. I need to be careful anyway, it's not good for you to sit more than about two hours without walking around so your blood circulates. Don't want the traveller's blood clot, lol.

What I really want is a way to be dancing while my avatar is dancing. I think, when voice goes live I may use it for that... gab in voice and dance and not have to be at the keyboard.

Sleep? 4-6 hours average...though I usually have a 'catch-up' day every week or so, and collapse for 12 hours.

Longest time inworld? Probably from 9 am in the morning to 1 am the following morning, all in the company of the same person...and it would have been longer if they hadn't had to go to sleep (bloody lightweight :-) )... on a Sunday too, and without crashing, if memory serves. Though a good building or modding session can suck up four hours before you even blink.

Very rare is the day I don't log in, at least for long enough to check my messages...and I have pulled more than one 'all-nighter', and had to go to work the next day too...(thank heavens for caffeine). Hmm...perhaps I *should* consider a holiday...

Longest in-world in one stretch for me - probably about 5 or 6 hours. I have had the odd day when I've spent perhaps 6 or 8 hours total in SL - especially when I was learning how to build stuff.

Most days now I'm hooked up for 2-3 hours, and I try to have one day a week free of SL apart from a quick check to see if I've sold anything!

I have some projects planned that will involve spending more time in-world but generally I intend to limit my social time in SL to 2 hrs per day! But I probably won't keep to that though!

I normally sleep at least 6 hours a night during the week and try to bump that up to 8-9 on weekends to help add some energy back.

I don't stay on SL all that long - longest was probably 4 hours or so. Weekdays, I am usually only on 1 hour or so in the evenings. Maybe a little more if there's something I need to do.

I definitely spent more time in world when I was new. It's less exciting for me now unless specific people are inworld <3. Particularly less interesting when I can't TP, search or see my Linden balance :/

oh, right…sorry. Re-logging after crashes don’t count against total time either.
Geez it’s a part of the game sometimes right?

Irrational thinking…that’s a sure sign of sleep deprivation:
“Crash on me will ya!! I’ll log on again…HA!...and again…take that!...and again!”…and…I should have gone to bed.

So, "8 or more" equals "I’m sleeping now"? Not everyone here is 21 anymore :) When you get to my age, or have to stop drinking coffee because of health issues, you'll probably need a nap during the day too. I sleep 8 hours at the very least; often 10-12 hours (not in a row, but nightsleep + nap together).

longest 34 hours straight, including going and making something to eat, drink making etc.
I have done 24 a few times, it has been a long time since I have done that. my norm is 5-6 hours a day. Weekends can go 7 am to 1-2 AM the next day depending, but I mostly do RL stuff as well during those times and leave my toon AFK

Aleister.. I dont know how old you are but as I age I need less sleep and I sure am not 21 lol... been a long time :)

and I dont crash either :shrugs:

crashed last night though running 2 instances of the UI at the same time and another computer on SL and one more on some other MMOG

I used to get between 6-10 hours a night (depending on how long I can sleep in the next day), but now am lucky to get up to 6 hours, and most nights it is 3 or less. All due to SL. :)

Longest on at a time? There have been more than one occasion when I was on for 36-40 hours. Those were the occaisons when my session would end with me sleeping slumped over and my avatar dancing around in a club without human control :). Now I'm normally just on for 4 hours at a time (depending on what the next day is going to be).

I think the longest I've been on SL is about 8-10 hours in the winter on a weekend. Can't really do anything else when there's ice, snow and a windstorm going on!

I need at least 8 hours of sleep to function correctly...but unless I was up late the night before or did a lot of physical work I can't sleep any more than 8 hours. I'm suddenly awake!

I used to be able to sleep 10-12 hours easily. I guess that's part of getting old. My parents get by on 6 hours these days. GACK!!!

Ah…naps don’t count. Probably could but my poll…so no. besides I nap at work even with the coffee. - j/k
I think the point here is that…it is all about health issues. If we’re not getting a good rejuvenating sleep, be it in one stretch, or over the course of a day…then we’re probably hurting ourselves. And from the looks of the poll thus far, nearly two thirds of us may be heading for a big crash. I meant for this post to be entertaining, and I’m in no position to preach, but as the weekend approaches lets all try to think of our bodies and what too little sleep can lead to…err…well I don’t know what it could lead to…not a doctor here…but I’m sure it’s not good. And remember, our little avatars want what’s best for us and are depending on us being around to let them out, at what ever schedule we keep.
OBTW…I’m a tad bit over (okay way over) 21 myself and should be staying away from the caffeine monster too.

/me wishes he could take naps!

Oh I know. Have had health problems because of SL, but at least I've lost more than 12 pounds since I started. :)

I might just sleep all weekend.

There are people who can get along on 4 hours of sleep per day. Everyone is different. I don't think that medical practioners can set a norm and define everything else as unhealthy.

It's the same as the so-called "overweight". Some people are heavily built, and would rather risk their health if they tried to stick to the recommended weight.
