From: White Hyacinth How can an alt be legitimate without payment info? It should have "payment info used", because it was paid for... Making alts has been borked for a while now. People creating legitimate alts are never asked for the one time fee. There is no way to pay for that fee now, no matter how honest you want to be. I created a legitimate alt today. I used all the same, real information as I did to register my main account, only a different mail account. I did not get asked if this is my first account (I would have truthfully answered 'no') and I did not get any opportunity to pay the fee (which I would have).

So that is why I was not able to talk my friend through the process of creating a legitimate alt recently. Thanks for the information. Seems like LL has picked a fine time to start deleting alts then

Okay, if you're worried about this happening to you, you should probably start documenting all of your "alts." Screenshots with Linden balances, account histories, confirmation e-mails. Then, if Linden Labs does screw you, you can actually take some recourse. First step: the Better Business Bureau local to Linden Labs's main office.
If they are deleting accounts without notice, without attempting to refund your Linden balance, they are stealing your money.

I encourage everyone to fully read this thread http://forums.secondcitizen.com/showthread.php?t=12686 at SecondCitizen to get the full story on what we have collectively found out about the issue. There are still many gaping holes in the story, but the residents there have been working fervently to get answers.

Is there any actual evidence that this is widespread? Those who know me probably know I have a fair number of alts carrying quite large amounts of cash so I'm concerned about this issue. So far I'm not seeing a lot of people posting here who have actually experienced this. There's one reporter, one trouble maker (sorry Josh, but I'm sure you won't be offended by that description) and maybe one other person. Not exactly a pandemic, regardless of the panicky reports of empty camping chairs.
What's going on? Has anyone actually got a serious answer out of LL about whether any of this is even real?

I'll forward this to LR but I'm sure they know. See if we can't get a response.

From: Ceera Murakami All my alts are "Payment info on file". My main is "Payment info used", since that is the only one that has ever needed to buy L$, ever. Ceera transfers funds to the others as they need it.
I gave all the required payment info and answered all questions honestly when registering each alt. In some cases, LL's sloppy accounting department never billed me for the alt, and in some cases recently alts were created using LL registration processes that never gave me a CHANCE to offer billing info, short of signing up for a Premium account.
If you create an account now and do not elect to be Premium, you can only enter paymenht info after the account has been fully created. At no point in the registration process do they even ASK if you have other accounts, and at no point do they say that you may have to pay for the new account, unless you click the choice to create a Premium account at registration time. So it is PERFECTLY LEGAL, based on the current registration process provided by LL, to create a "no payment info on file" alt, and pay nothing for it. Because THEY DONT ASK FOR PAYMENT. Yes this is true, I have encountered it myself. I also agree that LL needs to be held accountable for this. This level of non-communication is reaching Monty Pythonesque levels of absurdity.

http://forums.secondcitizen.com/showthread.php?t=12788&page=2This thread contains a log of Robin being savaged by a bunch of retards but buried deep in the middle is something relevant Robin Linden: As I mentioned earlier, a lot of accounts were closed in error due to an attempt to ban fraudulent accounts. You should email billing@lindenlab.com and ask them to check. Other than that she obviously has never heard of this problem. So I'm inclined to think it's mostly imaginary.

Is there some adult nature to Second Citizen? I ask because I got a blocked message when I tried to go there. One of those scary messages about how it is Adult (or porn or whatever word is used) and therefore access is not allowed. I will now be fired from work for trying to access Second Citizen.

One of the people on this thread who has actually experienced this should report it as a bug in Jira. Please include a note about the need to clarify policies with respect to ALTs, particularly in view of the fact that some people don't seem to be finding a way to legitimately pay for new alts (perhaps this choice automagically goes away if you are already "over quota" for alts???). I just searched Jira using several different keyword sets and found no references to this problem. To open a new Jira issue, login to it: https://jira.secondlife.com. Choose the tiny "login" link on the upper right. On the next screen, choose one of the filters on the right-hand portion of the screen. Any of them will work. Then, immediately under the banner, you will see a menu bar. Choose "Create New Issue". I would file this one as a MISC Bug.

Nothing adult about it at all, no. It's a general discussion forum for Second Life and many other MMOs.

It's a link to the Linden blog and it works now. I had some problems with vbulletin's WYSIWYG editor which initially trashed the copy/pasted link. Maybe you clicked it before I fixed it. (woah, soundbite.)

I would love to verify that my contact info is up-to-date.....but there seems to be no way to do it on the website. Maybe all 6 million+ accounts are expected to call the 5 folks in Linden Lab's Billing department now to verify?

Seriously though..I am a premium since back before the flood of unverifieds, and I seem to remember I had to put in a lot of info including RL name and address.
I'm sure there are a lot of people who have gotten RL married or divorced, or moved since date of signup.
Is this part of implementing the dreaded age verification?
