The only ARable offense could be their IMs... which the Lindens will tell you to just mute the person/s anyhoo.

If their argument is that there is no sign saying it is private property then that means they thought what they were doing as on public property. Which, if that was the case they would have not expectation of privacy whatsoever. Let them report until their fingers bleed.

If this is your sense of humor I'm working on a script you might like. It'll play the "shicka... shicka..." camera sound at random intervals like someone is taking snapshots when unauthorized avatars try to use your bed.

Almost makes you want to risk a TOS violation and use a chatlogger to read them shouting, "WHO IS TAKING SNAPSHOTS?!?! WHERE ARE YOU!?!?" :D

Yep, I had this happen yesterday. A couple of people, who say that was the first time they've been there... however my visitor tracker says different. I recognize the names. They said they were only there for a few minutes, hmmm, visitor tracker says almost 2 hours that day. I, unfortunately, didn't catch them in the middle of doing the nasty, of course, they said they were just talking, and that there were other people there before them. Yeah, uh huh, sure.

So I was nice (in a stern way) and explained to them that most houses on PRIVATE sims do not put up ban lines because they are ugly, and they are not even allowed where I live. If it looks like a private house, then it more than likely is a private house, so stay out. I was nice and let them leave before banning them.

If posting private property signs were the only action, I'd say you ought to do that.

But there are plenty of other passive methods. An obvious one is just to get a security orb, hidden away, that will warn people, then boot them automatically. A second one is to get a holographic room device that will hide the furniture until you want to use it.

Yeah, it was the whole privacy sign that got me. I mean, if I see a shop sign, I walk in. No shop sign, I admire the outside and move on. I may stand outside and look, just trying to figure out how one got that certain affect, but Mom always taught me to knock before entering.

I co-own a go cart track.. in a vehicle themed sim. (owned by Pontiac). ANyways.. there's a lot of vehicles.. almost every car maker who's anybody in SL.. has a dealership on the island. (I know.. how did we get there, huh?)

Well we get a lot of noobs in their freebie cars. A lot. So we built the go cart track on the roof. Then we put up stairs. People started driving cars up the stairs.. so we put up fences and barriers. People started trying to park their cars on our land, so we put up cubs and vehicle entry barriers. People started rezzing their own cars on the track, so we disabled building. No matter how hard we've tried to communicate our intentions that no outside vehicles be brought onto the premises.. people continue to try and barrel through, jump over, and/or crash into our build.

The problem being of course.. we charge for cart rentals. it's a business. We've tried everything to make that clear to people. The noobs, in their various languages, won't understand the signs we put up, and for some reason, "object entry" denial just seems to fail for some reason. But once they successfully get on the track, they can't seem to get out again.. and so the place becomes littered with car wrecks.. and people who pay to rent the carts, can't use the track. (we're still not all set to group, so autoreturn would be bad right now... working on it).

Well I was sitting there, inspecting some recent work on the building, when out of the sky, a yellow volkswagen bus came falling out of the clouds, and impacted on the track. So.. not being possessed of a great sense of humour at removing half a dozen cars a day, I reached over, and returned the bus to the owner. Depositing the driver and passenger on the track, sans auto.

Now.. here I am.. hovering in the sky.. in a bathing suit. No owner tags on.. nothing. Just floating there looking innocent. Passenger (female) flys over to me, and pulls out a machine gun.

I sit there.. and consider this situation for a moment. Then I reach over, and freeze her.

(it's really cool when you freeze someone flying.. they kind of just fall out of the sky, straight down).

ANyways.. Driver walks over to passenger.. who is still brandishing her machinegun. I assume they're IMing expletives to each other. I float gently down to the ground, and in my bare feet, I pad over to where she stands, frozen with her gun.

I sit here.. pondering exactly what to do.. She's a head taller than me, and I am so apparrently powerless in comparison to her. I just look at her for a moment.. drinking in the irony. Her.. taller, better dressed, machine gun, angry pose.. me, bathing suit, barefoot, shorter and unarmed...

And then I just said "banned"... and ejected and banned her. about 10 seconds later, Boyfriend teleports over to her. Woman walks up to the newly created banlines.. and starts trying to talk to me. (did you know, that you can't hear someone who is banned from a place, when you are inside that place?).. Actually, I fairly assume that she was cussing me out.. since I couldn't "hear"... I don't know.

She's armed, and pissed... so, I rez an anti-greif vehicle, hop on, and cross the banlines.

Well it seems that her argument was that I didn't warn them. Well.. you'd think that the fence... and the "no way to drive a vehicle onto the track".. and the stairs.. and the vehicle entry barriers MIGHT have been enough. BUt the fact was that I had enabled the "no object entry" function earlier in the day. Apparrently this doesn't work (or hasn't worked) with vehicles. It seems she wants me to shout out demands that she they remove their vehicle.. in 12 languages.. and to erect large signs on all 4 sides of the track (40m wide) that explain in detail that external cars are not permitted. (I don't think she actually expected anything of the sort.. but the truth is.. I deal briskly with obvious attempts to rip me off of the measly $L5 I ask for a cart rental. Attempts that have historically resulted in litter-greif. All over some free test-drive car that they got 200m away.

Anyways.. I explained to her that the vehicle return WAS the warning. and the ban had been issued ONLY because she pulled a weapon.

I really feel for the OP. There are "security" systems available that will TP the trespasser back to their "home"... such systems are easy to build, but are a bit hard to make work within the bounds of "acceptable use". I plan to build such a device.. and to take careful care to build it within the rules. Not for the track.. but for my home. Because I really don't want the original poster's experience in my home.

Might I suggest door locks, if you don't have them already? They're certainly not foolproof, but they let ignorant newbies know that they don't belong.

Now, if they get past the locks, then they've clearly announced their intentions, and are fair game, as far as I'm concerned.

Re: the giant face in the window...

BWAH HA HAAAAA! Brilliant.

And, in case some missed it (I'm not sure if they did or not) I was talking about ME being AR-ed, not them.

As for security devices etc., I'm on the fence. I honestly don't mind people visiting my place. It's nice. It's a big ol' treehouse, with open platforms and a fantastic view. I wish I had built it myself, but I bought it. Heck, I really don't mind people using the bed (When I get into "Work Mode", all thoughts of naughtiness are gone. I haven't had my oil changed for a while, so someone might as well get some use out of it! *grin*), what bugged me about the whole situation was the self-righteous "You shouldn't have done that, I'm going to AR you" that followed. I worked hard to make the products that I made and sell on SL, that allow me to own almost half a sim (Someone swooped in and bought the last little bit I needed to make it a full half-sim... if that's not an oxymoron... and are charging an exorbitant amount for it. I'll wait.), and, quite frankly, it's mine and I will behave as I wish on it.

Update:

What I've done, in the Land title, up at the top of the screen, is name it ";(Whatever the name is, I don't want to be accused of advertising), if you want to hump in my bed, be prepared to be mocked". I'm not online, so I can't remember the actual words, but it's something like that.

I figger that's a big enough sign for folks like that. *grin*

Why make this complicted. Its your land and you are entitled to privacy on your land. You don't need to warn anyone that you have an expectation of privacy, If they are getting busy in your bed, they are violating your privacy. You handled it brilliantly.

I would slp them both on ignore if thye pester you, and bann them from your property. But you should not even think for a second that you do not have the right to keep people off your land.

If I were you, I'd add a three way poseball. If I find people using my bed, I simply join in.

I honestly don't mind people visiting my place.

I'm the same way. I like people enjoying my property, and I don't like throwing up ban-lines because I sure as hell hate bumping into them when I'm just trying to get from point A to point B on the mainland.

I once had some people be openly rude to me on my own property, telling me to leave them alone and give them privacy. (Freeze/Eject/Ban handled that.) And every once in a while, clueless visitors will wander in during private moments. While a polite, "would you please give us some privacy?" usually is all it takes, Eject/Ban is just a couple clicks away.

I just wish I had people IMming me afterward like those folks did you. I love stuff like that.

The point about letting people explore your build.. is a good one.. Why else spend so much time making my home attractve? if it's just going to be some exclusive invitation only hangout and "bed storage faciliy?"

I've had some time to think about the idea, and in truth, if I were to employ a security type system.. I think I would specifically only switch it on during "do not disturb" moments - and leave it off the rest of the time.

Thanks, Jake.

Wildfire, oh, believe me, I LOVE doing the "Buh-bye Boot" when someone's acting up.
I had someone IM me about one of my products. I invited him over and he started demanding that I retexture one of my products for him. He hadn't bought ANYTHING from me yet, hadn't provided a texture or even a sample reference picture, but was demanding I do it for him. I tried to explain that it's not how it works and that whoever is doing the rest of the AV should retexture.
The response? "Why the hell should I have to do that? You can't make me tell the guy to retexture your things. That's your job. Jesus. Just do it in Photoshop or something. How ****ing stupid are you?"

Needless to say, he was frozed and given a piece of my mind. He muted me, so WHOOOOSH! Off he goes. Unmute. "Why did you do that?"

12 times he tried to come onto my land. Twelve. Each time, getting more and more agitated, more and more abusive, ruder and ruder, then startd threatening ARs.

So I had me a little skeet shoot, firing him off, focussed on him to see where he would land.

I've decided I'm going to make a game of it and put a target on my other land in the sim and see how close I can get these folks.

Mickey this very same thing once happened to me except it was 1 guy who was a lion. Back when i was a Forest Guide in The Forest, i had my house in the sim south of it. My house had this pose ball bed (all there was at the time. sexgen didn't exist yet). I was outside the house talking to a friend of mine, then i walk in and find the lion dude pleasuring himself with his cock out in my bed. O.o When he saw me, he put it away and walked out the door. I was like "ok that was rude. o.o". Of course i didn't AR him because i just figured it was some random idiot that doesn't know better. Which i was probably right.

I don't feel a Need to Put up signs or Ban Lines all over my property in order to educate Uncultured louts on what is, and is not acceptable behaviour in places other than thier own home. If i speak to them, and they refuse to do me the courtesy of responding, they are telling me they don't wish to show proper respect, and decorum. I have no need or desire for such people in my home.

I'm Polite, But i have my Limits, i would have warned them Once they are on private property, and in MY bed, and they are to leave Immediately. If they choose to Ignore me, then Freeze, Boot, Ban, and Ignore in Rapid succession.

Angel.

Camera... Hmm... oh the ideas that come to mind... ;)

Right, now I have a little "PG ZONE!" disk that I drop in front of people that 'misbehave' in my areas... it's effective, but no where near as much fun.

Am I in the wrong for not having giant signs saying "Feel free to spank that bootie in my bed, in my absence, but pay attention to the minimap in case I log on."?

HA! So I'm online last night and I get a "So and so gives you "Privacy Sign" message. I was in the middle of someone... er.. something and just responded with a "Thanks"

When I had a sec, I spawned it and burst out laughing.

It said "DANGER! Feel free to spank that bootie in my bed, in my absence, but pay attention to the minimap in case I log on." and looked really good. A very nice job.

I couldn't stop giggling about it, sending an IM to thank him very much for it and recieving "I just had to" from him.

I'm so pleased with it that, you know what? I put it up! Right over the door of my bedroom hut, on one of the beams.

What sucks is that it looks too good!

So thank you, anonymous benefactor, for the gift. It will stay in a place of pride.

Well since I can't get the door locks to work any longer, and I'm waiting for a reply from the builder, I put invisible prims inside the door. That way my unwelcome visitor can click on the door and open it, but they can't come in LOL Of course there are other ways around that, but I think it will be funny to try to watch people walk in through the door.

Funny, when some people login to an online game, they leave much of who they are behind. I treat people the same in RL as I do in SL. Try to be polite and not jump to conclusions, yet get barraged with 'demands' that I 'must' do this and I 'must' do that. I have a high tolerance level, but when crossed once too often, the mixture of the Leo birth sign, the Jack Russel stature, and British Bulldog tenacity form into an explosive mixture.

I dislike banning, ejecting, and even muting. But I justify their use on the basis, would I actually meet so many obnoxious people anywhere else except on the internet, given that it would be doubtful I could possibly meet such a huge number of people without the internet, so the percentages are relevant.

There is a known phenomena called 'action without fear of reprisal due to a sense of detachment' that is present when using the internet, similar to the feeling when driving a car. Sadly my mute list has grown quite large over the past year, at a higher rate than in the previous 2 years. I at least gain some comfort not having to listen to the bitching while I decide what I want to use this game for and who I want to let through my internet connection.

Now I've been aware of this phenomenon but had not till now seen it described. How very true. It's what's made me a chatterbox both here and in-world. It's that which has sucked up my time from experimenting with scripts and building. This is not a complaint. It's been a huge ego boost.
How sad that so many others have taken to 'the dark side' with this phenomenon :(
