So I log on to my home the other day, which, while it doesn't have ban lines wrapped around the property, nor does it have signs around saying Private Property, is pretty obviously a private home and workshop. There are vendors around, but the living area, expecially the bedroom is obviously... well, a bedroom. There is only one bed, with a hidden sexgen base in it. (Sometimes, I like to entertain...) It's also on the top of a treehouse, on top of a mountain, above the cloudline. It's pretty secluded. Also, it's pretty open plan, so, no doors. Anyway, I log on and see that there are two people... getting busy in my bed. I felt a bit like Goldilocks! So, I leave them be for a while, catching up on IMs and the like, figgering they might notice me and say something, or leave or whatever. No such luck. I continue chatting with friends for a while. I told them about it and we had a little giggle and shared a little outrage over the fact that someone would just walk into someone's house and start banging away. Even more so, that they weren't keeping an eye out for the owner!
So, having a bit of a wicked sense of humour, my friend shoots me over a prop movie camera and, having a wickeder sense of humour myself, I spawn it and move it up into my room.
Now, this had the desired effect and they quickly hopped up and got dressed. Mr. comes downstairs and bangs into me, then ignores me when I say hello. "No, sorry" he says before he takes off.
"Well, at least he apologised" I say to myself and think nothing of it.
In the immortal words of Mr. Steve Martin... "But NOOOOOOOOO...."
I get an IM from him, outraged that I would do "such a thing" and telling me that, because I don't have signs around saying "Private Property" ('cuz that's always attractive!) or banlines (Which I'm sure my neighbors would love), that they are allowed to do whatever they want and, pretty much that I have to put up signs if I want it considered private. It got a little ruder afterwards, and a little more outlandish, but ended with me just rolling my eyes and thanking him for the suggestions.
End of story?
Aw, HELL no. Tonight, I get another disgruntled IM, this time from Little Miss, denouncing me for my behaviour (on my own land... which they were humping on...) and then threatening an AR. I, of course, laughed, and deleted the polite IM I was writing, replacing it with something along the lines of "WHAT? You come on to my land and start doing the nasty in my bed and YOU'RE going to abuse report ME?" and then reminded her that I could have frozen them, then kicked them off, but didn't.
Anyway, here's the thing. Has SL gotten to the point where we DO have to put up signs saying Private Property? Are we at the point where we HAVE to put up banlines to stop people from taking advantage? Am I in the wrong for not having giant signs saying "Feel free to spank that bootie in my bed, in my absence, but pay attention to the minimap in case I log on."?
And, is playing a joke on someone making the beast with two backs in MY BED abuse? Is it reportable?
Me? I think it's ridiculous, I just wanted thoughts.

No one did anything ARable.
I have to say, your little attention grabber with the camera was amusing =^.^=
And thier outrage is... well, they're just more of the "entitled" types. I say mute the fools, put them on your ban list, and be done.

That's funny. NO I don't think you should be AR'd. You could've done worse.

I agree, not ARable, but laughable! I cant tell you how many times I get a renter that IMs me with "This couple was doing *such n such* in my home!" Those people are quickly added to their parcel ban list but I have had one such couple that would go from house to house after the 1st gives them the boot n ban until they were estate banned. I have to find it a little amusing that in your case, they got exactly what they set themselves up for! I dont know why people dont consider homes and land in SL like RL homes. You just dont go into others homes and use them as your own.
My response would have been "Well, since those privacy signs and such arent in place, then *I* have the right to come in and do as *I* please, and at that moment it included carrying a camera and watching the rude tresspassers scramble to stop doing the nasty." If they have the right...you have more of a right on your own stinkin land.

Okay, I admit this has got to be one of the more entertaining ways of handling such intruders. So far my list has "Set land to damage and shoot them off the bed," and "Set land to damage and bomb them off the bed." Yours was much more subtle, and I congratulate you! As to this being an AR offense? Maybe on their end, once they started with the hostile IM's, but what you did was perfectly within your rights. You have the next to the final say about your land, (Lindens have the final.. or is it the Back End Lag Monster?) so, the Lindens would probably laugh at an AR involving this and just put it as complete and move on. And we all know the Lindens could use a good laugh now and again One suggestion for the future though: Sell concessions along with the 'camera'

Funny story! Thanks for sharing.
I've had a similar situation myself. In my particular one, the bed faces a wall with a sofa facing the bed along that wall. I sat and watched.
When they didn't notice, I started directing. "Now do this to him, now roll that way" A couple of times they told me to shut up, so I turned the bed off via the owner's command (spoken on a different chat channel) which put them into a tizzy about the "stoopd lag in ths stoopd sim." Which pretty much gave me their age range (if not their I.Q.) so I kept the bed turned off for a minute longer to see what they would do.
Turns out, nothing. They stood up, hopped back on the pose balls, stood up, hopped back on, at least a dozen times. I got tired of watching them so I turned the bed back on. Now the guy was on the pink ball and vice versa. Think girls with toys. Which made for an interesting screen shot, so I shared it with them. They laughed and thought it was funny.
So I profiled them and started sharing the shot with everyone listed in their picks, members of the smaller groups they were a part of, etc. Hey, if they thought it was funny.....
Notice, I said screenshot (not snapshot) so it showed their names fairly clearly. They had a unique group tag that fit the occasion perfectly (and was probably ARable, however I was having too much fun at this point to think about that.) And yes, I know you can get SL to have the console stuff show up in the snappies, but I already know where the printscreen button is. Didn't want to waste the time at the time. Plus, no annoying camera sounds.
Funny, they haven't been back since.
I have also put up a nicely worded notice regarding the lack of privacy and locking doors in SL and requesting that uninviteds please leave. One prim, with a visitor tracker script inside, combined with a timer script, if someone stays longer than I think they should, I send an IM explaining the reason they are now banned and letting them know they can send a note card with an apology and request removal of the ban.
My home is located in a remote area and they have to have a teleport or flight assist to get to it, so the ban may not even matter (I think it only goes so far up). But like they say, the signs for the security alarm company are more powerful than the alarm itself in deterring break ins.

well i usually do the set the land to damage turn off the fly and push them off the second floor balcony so..
but yeah it happens my place is at ground level but its set farrr apart from the rest of my stuff that is a little shop and whatnot its got a fence and a welcome mat etc its obviously a house and the place i log and stuff
but if someone wants to think i need signs up for private property then fine they cant think that but i'm not putting one up i mean the fence with the gate and the hedges and stuff should be enough to make a point..

Do what you want. Invite your friends over to watch em if you feel like it. If not, eject em. Feeling creative? Turn off the safetys and shoot em with a machine gun. If your the landowner, your the boss.

That was a humorous story. It's probably a learning experience for them and a funny story for you. If they go about acting like that everywhere in Second Life, they will probably be banned shortly anyways. Poor Linden Labs is already swamped with tons of abuse reports. It's funny that they seem to have encountered private property signs before, but haven't figured out that all of SL is not their personal bedroom. I mean, lol, hello....I'd say unless you see a sign that says "Please come here and do whatever you want", you should consider any place with a house to be private property. Try using their reasoning in real life.....

I would proudly show them my degree from the Dick Cheney School of Diplomacy ("F yourself..." and let them know that land, especially developed land, is not public by default.

Funny story You should have done what Winter suggested...invited your firends over to watch....maybe rez a couple boxes of popcorn. LOL Perhaps this is something that should be taught on orientation island....that most houses are private and if it looks like a persons private house, then it probably is. Wasting prims on private property signs is silly.

Heehee that's the funniest thing I read today (it is early admittedly but I doubt it'll be beaten) If you don't like people messing with your furniture, rez a solid prim over it when you're not planning on using it. Then paint it with transparent texture for added BAH! effect. I'd give the poseballs a good wipe before using them though. You don't want to get noob-cooties. But yeah, welcome to the internet, where nothing short of a machine gun in the face counts as a boundary.

Entertaining thread I guess I've been just plain lucky. I spent my first few weeks getting to grips with the concept of 'private property'. I explored inside and out, marvelling at some of the constructs, giggling at some of the animations but generally getting inspired by what I found to go and do likewise. Well, four months in and I still have no scripting and very little building experience but I've put together a modest little home and have left permissions open as a kind of thankyou to all those who left their creations open for my enjoyment. I'm careful to negotiate with other inhabitants but explore less nowadays. My RL/SL partner and I were upstairs in my house last night where she was trying outfits and we heard the doorbell go. I swung my camera round to track our visitor but there was no need. He/she came upstairs and returned downstairs and outdoors immediately. I think in four months they were the third unannounced visitor. Is this a record? For the time being, I'll leave build on and poses in place and just hope that will spread goodwill and not just be an invite to misbehave.

But wouldn't it not indeed very funny when someone would read this and thinks.... The Netherlands? 3 Years ago? Forest? Dogs? .... ups.... Morwen.

FYI I am going to open up a shop selling dummy surveylience cameras, along with animated toilet paper, animated soap (if you are ejected from land, it TP's you to jail and the soap keeps slipping from your hand and.....) and a full summer collection of MI outfits and accessories.

I hate the idea of puttin up ban lines -- but we might hafta 'less people learn some common courtesy, ya know? Mari
