From: SqueezeOne Pow I don't have cable for that very reason. The provider in my area is a rip-off for the amount of money it costs vs. what I actually want.
Would you depend on your cable service to do business and make an income? If you use the internet for it and they are your ISP, maybe.

Would you depend on your cable service to do business and make an income? As a web designer the answer to that is yes. I don't have these problems with my cable internet. If I did I would choose another option. Unfortunately with SL, I don't have one.

From: Kascha Matova Do you have the slightest idea how many people you just lifted your leg on? Do you care? 1) I've been around long enough to have a decent idea! 2) no. From: Kascha Matova Well, as an aspiring tool and SL user I am happy to resolutely report that when I am paying for a service and do not get my money's worth, I reserve the right to complain until the stars burn out. I don't care if the service costs a dollar. If I'm getting 50 cents worth of value out of it I just lost half my investment. And someone will hear about it. Call it what you want - game, obsession, whatever.
That's the problem with consumers. They think that a) they have the right to complain about everything and b) that it does any good. I've said multiple times what it would take to get LL to take legitimate notice at what so many people are crying about... a) make a new project open letter b) include an ultimatum that if certian benchmarks aren't met on a particular timeline then everyone who signed will downgrade their accounts and not log in for a month. c) get everyone to actually do that when LL doesn't meet the benchmarks. Otherwise, if the service you're getting makes you want to complain until the stars burn out then stop giving them your money and focus your energy into something more constructive for you! You don't require this service to get by in life!! From: Kascha Matova I don't know what your first sentence has to do with anything. If you want to draw that parallel, then after we pay our LL membership fee, no tier fees and no purchase prices on land. Because after you pay your quarter at the arcade, that's the end of the transactions involving your wallet, and you're never led to believe there's anymore than a quarter's worth of value in playing.
Yeah you obviously didn't get what I was saying. I was saying that just because you put a lot of money into something doesn't become more important or (in this case) a viable business. Also, following your analogy above, what made you think your quarter is worth any more than a quarter in SL? L$ is worthless outside of SL. You are guaranteed NO return on ANY fees you pay into SL beyond the ability to have land to build on.

How reliable was cable internet 3 years into it's first being introduced to the market? I remember it sucking ass! How soon we forget...

From: Ciaran Laval Yes the WoW forums do get people including threats of legal action, plenty in Europe over the farcical way they handled the collectors edition inworld pet. You have to admit that's one of the most forum-tarded things to ever happen. And no I wasn't calling everyone who goes on forums a "forum-tard"...just the forum-tards!

Sorry zaire, I tried to bring your thread back, but it seems hopelessly derailed at this point. I guess it's just time to join in the fun now... From: Kascha Matova as an aspiring tool and SL user Kascha, you did NOT just say that! /me wonders exactly what kind of tool Kascha aspires to be.

"Class action suit"? What exactly is that? Is it pin striped? Does it come with a knee length skirt? How many prims is it? Available with matching stilletto's or flats? And do the seams match well?

Isn't it amusing how all of these righteous know-it-alls come on these boards preaching to people who have a right to complain.
Nevermind the fact that they miss nary one of these threads themselves, complaining about people who complain, and more often than not have more posts in each of these complaining threads than anybody else.
How about if you let people be and just gloss over the threads that you don't like, and contribute to those you do.
That isn't so hard is it? But you can't help yourself can you?
Sad.

Sure you do ... leave. See, nobody has to be in Second Life. We choose to. And while I totally agree that we should complain about problems to an extent, I do agree with the OP and others that this forum is all sackcloth and ashes sometimes. If you honestly think the platform is too unstable for you to enjoy it or do what you want to with it, you have the option of walking away and doing something else with your time. If you are still here, then you must find it good to be here despite the problems.

This past month has been nothing but a nightmare for most of us. Facts are its not going to get any better, if this past month has been any signs of the future. So you maybe are right maybe he should leave, but also the large % of people that feels the same would leave too. Leaving how many users? Mainly free accounts only. Paying account will be less likely to stay around......So ends the tail of how SL lived a fast life but dies a slow lagging death. Usagi

Usagi You might be right about that, but your statements are unquantified. I can't see anything that's going to cause a sudden crash that'll make everyone leave. You're right that if it dies it'll be a slow death - with user numbers gradually dwindling rather than a sudden mass exodus. Given that user numbers are still increasing and the -rate- of growth is also increasing, I don't see that that's really a foreseeable problem at the moment. I'm not saying it won't happen - I'm just saying that with the available evidence, "the sky is falling" or something to that effect seems a bit extreme.

Usagi I'm not saying he should leave. I'm saying that the argument that there is no choice but to be here is flawed. I would prefer people not leave.

Well I had planned to leave two weeks ago but TPs are down and I have been stuck in my house in Kazami North this whole time! The power went out because of a bandwidth shortage due to the voice update and the temperature keeps increasing. I am very thirsty. Since you're being so helpful can you please come and bring me some fresh water?!

Compared to most online fare, I'll stick with SL. Less censorship for one. I just quit playing an MMORPG that wouldn't allow players to say words like "Basketball", "but" as in "But why?" and several dozen other words. Plus some players were banned due to "Inappropriate Names". Some were, others..... just made you say "WTF??" All because another player Or the GM's decided so. Didnt know "L337 DooD" was offensive? SL isnt a "grind-fest". You're pretty much free to do many things you can't do elsewhere. Some restrictions may apply. Just like the Internet in the beginning, SL is having "Growing Pains". If it's still around in 5-10 years it'll be a Rockin' Place!! If you remember- 1995, everyone had to be on that new thing called "The Internet". You used a dial-up modem (at 2400 baud). You waited for the connection. You went to a random new thing called a webpage. You waited for any pictures to download (which could take several minutes). You sometimes got disconnected when downloading stuff (mostly Pr0n ). Now we have stuff we would've never thought of all those years ago. You download a CD's Worth of Music in a few seconds or minutes. You buy & sell crap on eBay. You can run a business without a storefront. YOu can meet people around the world, talk to them, SEE them, shoot them in a game. Download Movies..... and it goes on & on. Each day, week, month, & Year something new comes along & things get better (or worse). When I think back to the short time before Home Computers... it's kind of amazing that Second Life even exists. From Pong to Second Life, its been an interesting Journey!!

Sad. Thank you Cheyenne. I was thinking the same thing. Yes, there's lots of bitching and moaning in these threads but I get a kick out of the same people coming in and bitching about all the bitching. It's really absurd. If you don't like it, then don't read it.

Yahhh! And thennn.... we get a whole new round of bitching from the people bitching about people bitching! It's like when I am playing WoW (where second wave complainers can be even worse) and someone says something someone else may consider spam in the trade channel. Then, 10 or 15 people CLOG the channel complaining about it, adding blocks and blocks of whiny text. So blinded by self-righteousness that they don't even realize that they are just adding to the problem. Actually, they are misusing the channel MORE than the accuised spammer(s). What fucking awesome logic! Everyone's a sheriff online. Apply for resident moderator or learn to control yourself. You don't have to read complaint threads. That goes for all of you really redundant loop complainers. Use some self control, after all, that's what you're complaining about in the complainers right? That they are emo people with a lack of self-control? You can control yourself and no one else. Choice A: Filter (which means self control - I know, SCARY), and/or use the forum tools to make your experience more enjoyable, if need be. Choice B: Add to the noise by complaining yourself.

It's okay, the sky won't fall, Collette. The ghost prims are in place and holding it up there.
