Actually, that is exactly what I did in a recent post. I said that "the administrator" of "a third-party forum" had written Robin to ask about the chat log policy I and others had questioned in that thread, and gotten a reply. (Unlike in that thread.)

I didn't feel I could mention the other site or its administrator by name, or I might be in trouble.

Never mind disemvoweling. When some of us are afraid to even name another web site or individual, that pretty much eviscerates a lot of useful information right there.

Well I am impressed! Still have to see what mess Ebay moderators make of things but we finally have official word of some kind.

I will quitely and mistakenly go off and gloat now thinking that I actually might have provoked a response and had something to do with the timing of the blog post As if!!!!!

Sadly, I think of them as mercenaries in light of recent moderation activity. I sincerely wonder how the moderation is going to work and what kind of accountability these people will have.

I feel like somehow I missed something.

Mostly that blog post sounds like good news. Guess we'll have to wait and see what the paid moderation is like. It could be a good thing or it could be very bad. Insult each other while you still can!

Is the moderation "group" an inworld group, a company, or just a random assemblage of people?

Is the moderation group still moderating eBay forums, and if not, why not?

If we get new forum software are the existing posts going to go where the old attached images and the old scripting forum posts went?

Are replies going to be sorted by rating by default instead of chronologically?

When someone asks why have alts, pushing posts to the top will need to be added to the list of answers.

Are we looking at a change from vBulletin software to some other forum software?

Will the moderation group members have visible names?

You can actually get paid money to moderate a forum?

And people wonder why LL has avoided the forums for so long?

Because it's a lot of work. And because they hate the bbcode being turned off just as much as we do.

Or it's because we make mods cry. Often.

Or because the forums are unwieldy and hard to navigate. Oh, wait, that's the blog!

Or because there are so many drama queens, people examining every word that LL says so they can call them unprofessional idiots and people who do nothing but whine, regardless of if there's anything to actually whine about.

(edit: not a slam against Jessie or Raudf.. just the forum in general.)

Ah, but Sindy, if they didn't whine, complain and nitpick, then they wouldn't love Second Life. I'd rather hear this than the silence that comes from everyone leaving.

And in many cases, it's become a thing of once bitten, twice shy. LL's track record with the forum does not inspire confidence in me, but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt and go with "believe it when I see it." Which I admit is more cynical than, "I'll judge after I've seen it in action," but... *shrugs*

Of course, my opinion of the blog is well documented in the archives of the General Discussions forum.

LL hasn't confirmed it yet but most likely it's a company by the name of Liveworld who look like they're just a bunch of pr goons that will steamroll over any community that exists here and get paid good money to do so.

It could also be some people don't like the fact that LL, which claims to be a serious business...

Only lives up to standards that would get a lot of people fired in the real world.

heehee Hey no problem and I do agree to some extent but only to some extent. The old General and now in Resident Answers the picture can look bleak at times to Lindens BUT, and this is a great big ol BUT; Just reading and responding to ARs jaded them and they become myopic. They never really dug into the other threads where we laughed and played or helped. They never really scrolled down any to see the other side of the forums and this is a big problem. You can actually make money off of a forum instead of it being a thankless money pit. Change it to where it is read only status for No Payment Info accounts and start promoting the Content Creation forums. I have been on a lot of forums and frankly that section is the most helpful and encouraging forums I have ever been to. We encourage noobs instead of snubbing by join date (As opposed to other forums. Not refering to LL forums) We put Torley's videos to shame. Want to learn to use Gimp, PS, Maya 3D Max?? No problem! Want to learn to script and eventually be able to go on to other languages(Which is what I have done)? No problem! So much GOOD PR and it is being completely ignored.

People will eventually get to the point where they want to learn and ask questions or just play and will then gladly post payment info. Once you learn to build a nice house in a sandbox and texture it you eventually want to buy a little ol 512 etc............

Is this person killing herself? Because if so, you know, that's apt in so many ways.

But some do nothing but whine. I got no problem with calling them on it, when LL screws up. No big deal. Everybody screws up sometimes. There's productive ways to do it and there's nearly-criminally-rude ways to do it, though.
