Which photo sharing site do you prefer and why?

Snapzilla (slpics.com) is good for instant shots from in-world. Just take a snapshot, send it to [email]x@slpics.com[/email] and you're done. It will be published at the site within minutes. (Er, you must register first though.)

Flickr is better if you'd rather save to disk and do some post-processing before uploading.

Truth be told, they both have individual strengths.

I believe Snapzilla is going to allow uploads as well at some point though.

You can have it both ways.

snapzilla can be configured to auto-forward anything sent to [email]flickr@slpics.com[/email].. to your specified Flickr account.

Personally, I like that snapzilla has the forum sig, but I like the wider-appeal and sense of reliability (it is Yahoo afterall) of Flickr.

Honestly, I wish there was a similar "my latest Flicker pics" option for forums (and what I REALLY WANT... is a "My last flickr upload" for using on parcel media. (though I'd settle for "my last snapzilla upload";).

Have you tried the Flickr profile widget?

http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/profile.php

I used to use that for sigs, until I dumped my SL specific Flickr account.

Snapzilla also gives the location as a SLurl. Using both is good, but if you have more than X pictures on Flickr you need to pay or the older ones past X (250?) don't show up.

I like Photobucket because it offers a quick cut and paste option to share your images in IMG, HTML, direct link or in IMs.

Unfortunately Photobucket will ban you if you post so much as a naked, virtual manbreast.

Not that I did that. They closed my account when I uploaded a modification of this pic:

(They are wearing scarves fashioned to look like bewbs.) :sigh:

So does Flickr. There's also a huge SL community there.

Yeah.. I really wasn't pleased with the results

I like people to be able to SEE the images, otherwise what's the point?

Personally, snapzilla's inconsistent URLs and overly-prevalent advertising, have me shying away from using it as my "URL" of choice. I just don't like supporting that much spam in one link. and the site doesn't "look reputable" to a non-snapzilla user. I know Cristiano has to pay the bills... but still, it does affect my comfort level, and 5 ads on one page, some of them blinking, is over my threshold. Similar to the same reason I won't host my webpages or blogs on sites with pop-ups, banner ads and whatnot.

I have a Flickr account with one SL photo from over a year ago, and I just cant figure out how to share it like Photobucket does. I suppose I could fuss with it and figure it out.

Ditto. I don't think Flickr provides that link as easy cut and paste option

Point taken. It didn't seem too much of an issue with mine, but then I seem to take rather a lot of close-ups.

I guess image hosting on that scale ain't cheap, and the alternative is to introduce paid accounts -- limiting the number of snapshots and features available to free accounts.

Click 'All Sizes' above the image and it will take you to a page which has links for several size versions of your image across the top...I think it defaults to 'Large' unless the image is less than 500px wide. If Large is the size you want, just scroll down a bit and there will be coded URLs for BBCode, html, direct link, and I think a fourth option. I can't check because Flickr is blocked from work. If you want a different size, click one of the links at the top (eg, Small, Medium, Original), then scroll down to find your URLs.

Thanks so far. What is the maximum picture size allowed and can you set permissions for viewing for different types of pictures? For example rl pics for family vs. sl pics that might okay to have visible to anyone in the sl community.

I didn't notice a one-click, forum friendly IMG tag copy facility at Flickr either. (Only a generic HTML code version.) If you click through to a specific image though, you can select the size most appropriate for your forum post from the links listed above, and then right click the image and copy the image location... but it's not the same thing. ;)

Also, Flickr recently changed the rules saying users MUST link back to the original image at Flickr.com. That's kinda difficult on forums like this where BBCode is broken. :(

Like you, I use a forum-friendly hosting service for forum pics, but I use ImageShack, not Photobucket, because they are not hostile to bewbscarves. :D

Yeah, the URLs are under the resized pic, so you have to scroll down in order to see them.

I tend to prefer snaps, if only because flickr costs after 200 pics.

That is awesome Ann. Thanks! :)

This poor picture has been sitting on Flickr all alone since the voice beta grid days.
That’s most of the original Voice Mentors whooping it up under the sea near DaBoom I think.

I did not know that about Flickr.

For the most part, I just imagelink my images to my blogs or whatnot, so for the most part, hosting isn't a major issue if the host page shows ads, so long as I can link to the images live.

and snapzilla DOES make uploading easy.

Of course, Mari is the Eckspurt.

Though if you're looking at hosting.. I would start with this list of places that support S:'s postards.

Thank you!

I'm surprised at how much I'm learning in this thread.

I thought I knew it all already. :D

I learned it when I bounced up against the limit. You can upload more than 200 -- but only the most recent 200 are accessible. It's why I only put up some of the ones I consider "best" to flickr -- I know every upload kicks some other image.

They're still there, an if I got premium, they'll all be visible. But this takes money I could, oh, use to eat an stuff.

It's a nuisance. You basically must make a note of the page URL for every image you upload, if you want to retain access to them.

Also, if you upgrade to PRO and hit hard times and have to downgrade to a free account, you again lose access to anything beyond the most recent 200 pics, and all but the first two (or is it three?) photo sets you created.

IMO anything you uploaded when you were PRO should remain visible always.
