That's right folks. The mainland gave me the clap.

The mainland also left the seat up, the cap off the toothpaste, and dirty dishes in the kitchen sink. It drunk-dialed all my co-workers and told them I own 7 vibrators. It peed in my garden and stole the hood ornament off my neighbor's Jag.

The mainland had all my mail forwarded to Argentina, and convinced the federal government that I have been dead for eight years. It cheated on me with my best friend, my sister, my grandmother, and two of my uncles. The mainland put sugar in my gas tank and gave my email address to spammers.

And now the mainland has KILLED MY PUPPY!!!

:D :D :D

I figured as long as we're having multiple "I hate the mainland" parties tonight, we might as well have fun with it. So tell me...

What did the mainland do to you?!

The mainland put vaseline under my car's door handles. It saran-wrapped my cubicle at work, put tin foil on my cat's paws, and rubbed ora-jel on the rim of my coffee cup. It rode with me to the pizza place, then drove my car to a different parking spot while I was inside.

The mainland was Jack the Ripper. It shot JFK, voted for Bush, sold drugs to Anna Nichole, and is the evil monkey that hides in my closet. It's anarchistic, masochistic, schizophrenic and oh-so-scenic. It embodies four of the Seven Deadly Sins, and wears the other three on Halloween.

On the other hand, it has no covenants. The freedom it allows (and ugliness you have to accept as a consequence) is why I love it, warts and all.

On the other hand, I've had a mostly positive mainland experience. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

The Mainland made fun of my accent, stole the pie off my windowsill, sold me life insurance and called my mama fat.

The Mainland does these things because of the prank you pulled on it at the senior prom. You dumped pig blood all over it and its date.

The mainland gave me the first one free.

Now I'm hooked and just can't stop buying it!

A true story:
The mainland tortured me with an insufficient prim limit and horrible lag. It messed with my head and made me too lazy to consider a relocation. It talked me into buying the whole sim around my parcel. When I finally owned the sim after paying exorbitant prices to several neighbours, the mainland laughed into my face and revealed to me that the lag would never go away, despite all the empty land around my shop. I broke up with the mainland and moved to an island. Should've done that right away.

The main land is my home. It has ugly places and very beautiful places. The main land give you complete control beyond Linden. The main land gives you freedom to do what you like within the rules set Linden.

The main land is not that bad, if take the time to look.... and well, a isle with house in the same style, same height, same plants in the garden, same curtains for the windows and ect. ect. ect. (Yes, I am exaggerating) is not always to so beautiful as well.

And lag? Only in very busy sims I lag really. In my home sim lag is close to zero.

Morwen.

--- momentarily serious ---

I started this thread as a satirical response to 2-3 other threads last night where mainland bashing was rampant and moving into flat-out lies.

People were saying ALL mainland is ugly, chaotic, and worst of all, useless. Some who have made the personal choice to seek a more controlled environment on private islands were claiming this is the ONLY choice, and saying that those of us on the mainland were crazy, stupid, or otherwise lame.

Now I'm not going to say that all or even most of the mainland is as attractive as many private islands are, because that just wouldn't be true. Yes it's filled with adcuts, ugly builds, and boring repetitive flat green blahdom. But there ARE attractive, even beautiful, places on the mainland, for those who are willing to look for them.

Best of all, and the reason so many of us LOVE the mainland, is the freedom. No covenant means my neighbors can build anything they want, but it also means _I_ can build anything I want. I don't have to ask for someone's permission to do something out of the ordinary, and I don't have to worry that something I find beautiful will be deleted because it's ugly to someone else.

So, to those of you who do not enjoy the mainland, who decided to head for a more controlled environment, I respect your choice. I ask that you, in turn, respect the decision of mainlanders who have chosen freedom. To us, freedom is the most beautiful thing of all.

In conclusion: Mainland rocks! :D

--- We now return to our regularly scheduled satire ---

Mainland keyed my car, egged my house, and left a burning bag of dog poop on my doorstep! :p

But there ARE attractive, even beautiful, places on the mainland, for those who are willing to look for them.

Very true. We have a waterfront forest on the mainland, in Kishijoten, where we're developing a hiking trail for visitors. It's hardly ever laggy, and we have great neighbors. Most of the builds around us are attractive, and the few nearby spots of architectural weirdness are things that are easy to ignore, because everything else around them is prettier.

The mainland isn't *all* junk... you might have to spend some extra time looking, but there are attractive areas out there, without laggy crowds or ugly surroundings.

I believe it was Bart Simpson who once said..."Somehow I feel partially responsible for this...." :o

Though my worse experiences have occurred on the mailand, while looking at land for my first purchase I have never considered (or indeed 'would' never consider) island property (it's all just way too complicated for me..and have you seen some of the tier prices...nooo) unless - it was my own island, but then that's different. For me it's going to be the mainland, even if I do have to buy everything within a mile of the perfect plot. A lot of people have said there are no good plots left, I would tend to differ, there's loads, pricey usually but they are there. :D
