My favorite place to Buy Stuff inworld
at the store, any store =X, stupid commercialism question, meh!

My favorite place to RP or Play Games with friends
hey Goreans could win this one, but Caledon probably wins more votes

My favorite fabulous Fashion Designer
I'm old school and Munch was a long ago friend in another Av-life, so yeah

My favorite house-rockin’ DJ
My buddy Brian (last name given to people that lay bricks) cause he'll play jpop if I ask, and suprises me with songs like "Avenue Q - The internet is for porn" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ks4KHOlsVDM

My favorite massively talented Musician
Rich Desoto (what can I say, I like filk)

My favorite awesome Architect/Builder
that'd be my friend and favorite person shorter than me (a 'small' list), creator of the Virtual Mechanics group for pure physics devices and research.

My favorite wizard-like Scripter
Strife Onizuka, no one digs into LSL like Strife, no one.

My favorite place to take you Back in Time
wait isn't Caledon already getting enough votes?

My favorite place for Intellectual Conversation
damnit why are all the brilliant minds in Caledon?

Best place to Learn Another Language
any foriegn language sim? (although new policy blog posts is a REALLY good answer... so is Content Creation Forums)

My favorite culturally consequential Museum/Art Gallery
who did that policy piece in the "what do you do in SL" thread? nena? although I'm tempted to say Tribute Island, or even more fun, Kasteel Verloren.

My favorite brainy Science Experiment/Exhibit
come one now, who wouldn't say the Particle Laboratory?

My favorite source for Second Life News
my ears (see if you get the joke here)

My favorite finger-on-the-pulse Resident Blogger
Certain Lindens masquerading as non Lindens?

My favorite unforgettable Memorial
Tribute Island (I worked for one of the designers)

My favorite place to take a First Date
somewhere in RL.

My favorite place to bring Business Colleagues
offer teleport (aka wherever I'm standing)

My favorite place to Chill With My Friends
(same as above, or the reverse "accept tp offer";)

My favorite place to get down and Get Furry
Luskwood, Furnation? I know there are lots, but seriously we know who's got this one in the bag

My favorite place to get your AO on and Be Tiny
do kid places count? damn near anywhere

My favorite place to Victorianize and get Steam Punky
Even if I didn't say Caledon, (and I should say New Toulouse since I encouraged the person who created it to start it, and helped them w/ scripting), pretty much all the major players are connected to or highly affiliated with Caledon, so yeah

My favorite place to be all helpful and Help Newbies
Scripting tips, RA, and wherever I'm standing inworld

My favorite place to plan for the Robot Rebellion
my positronic brain of course. oops, disregard that, human.

My favorite romantic place to have your First Avatar Kiss
wherever we're standing?

My favorite depressing place to Be Emo
gotta be the forums =P

My favorite trashed landscape in which to enjoy the Post Apocalypse
any mainland is a good answer, but the Wastelands, is probably best known. Gibson, Suffugium, and Midian City really don't fit the bill but deserve mention.

My favorite place to put the hammer down and Drive
Ollie's Virtual Holland (another friend I did scripting for), haven't been in a long while, vehicles aren't really my thing.

My favorite creepy place to Be Goth
Real Life, yes, at my age.

Why do we need a government sponsored popularity contest?
They are the basis of electoral political systems, aren't they?

I agree that some of the categories seem a bit off, but I'm looking forward to seeing the results. I really hope they give us a list for each category instead of just the winners. At least the top 10. I think there will be some surprising results and your idea of the obvious-only-possible answer will not be the same as mine.

So far the contest has gotten me to go through some old landmarks. I was sad to find that my first 2 choices for a culturally relevant museum had disappeared. I think I ended up leaving that one blank out of disappointment.

I'm also interested to see what comes up in the science experiment category. I could only think of a couple; one is mine and one belongs to a friend that I only know because he's helped me with mine.

Ok, so who out there is breathless with cyber-anticipation about the announcement of the winners in...OMG...THREE DAYS!! Does anyone care??????? Come on folks...a little excitement please. :: insert eyeroll here ::

My favorite poster in the SL forums--now WHERE was THAT category?? And I am torn between Jumpy and Pep. Yeah. Both are cringing at the thought of being partnered in even that limited capacity. I would have voted Jumpy if I could make heads or tails out of his posts; and then there's Pep, whom I would have voted for in light of his dry sardonic wit, but he hasn't insulted me or ANYONE I can see in the past week! What gives Pep?? You slackin'?? ;) Oh, and what DOES it take to become Pep's Pip?

Sorry Ari, but you haven't been looking in the right places. Having been accused unjustly of being a liar in the Undying Thread, then being set up to "prove" I was one, I have been excommunicated, so I have pretty much put away any "dry sardonic wit" (are you mixing me up with someone else?) and now almost entirely limit myself to retaliating with darker visual humour whenever anyone posts one of those nauseating LOLCATs.

Pep (And I am not Pip, although I *am* Pie - as in "nice as" )

PS Despite your reservations, I'd be more than happy to share a (non-existent) awards table with Jumpy - and his hos and the buckets of champagne with which it would doubtless be awash.

Hmmm...

Never even saw the pole. :p

But after reading the questions.......it strikes me that it would be rather impossible to create a favorites pole and come up with SL's most popular places. There's just way too much going on to break it all down into catagories. If I had to design a questionairre like this....it'd be a mile long. LOL

On that note.....perhaps it just needed to be simplified, yet specific. No no...that wouldn't work....under shopping alone there's probably 450,000 possibilites. Try as they might...unless they made a pole like this mandatory upon log-in.....there's no way to really come up with true answers. People are too different....too varied in what appeals to them....too complicated a species to box all this info into a neat little package. And anyway.....my all time fave hang out place got wiped out so I'm still in mourning and couldn't possibly replace it yet......so, couldn't possibly take this survey ...*sniffle*

I felt much the same as the OP, and posted in the comments there.

Steampunk? Ya, it's Caledon most likely

Tinies? Oh, it's the Raglan Shire category.

Linden Bear Museum? Really?

A lot of them feel very obvious to me. Others, well, I can't really answer (kissing? really? How about the other bases?), and many my answers would be so marginalized to not count (Chelsea's Childrens' Clothes for best fashion! HardKnock Elementary for best roleplay!)

Linden Bear Museum? Really?
I left a lot of the fields blank. Just voted for my favorite DJ and club. Apart from that, I have no clue who to vote for.

I was going to put your bedroom down for the Bear Museum category. What's the SLURL?

Around 155, 105 in Hundertwasser, second floor. but I've only put out one bear or so at a time. They can get kinda primmy.

Like most people, I voted for Caledon in the logical category, too.

I had no idea what to vote for a good number of the categories, so I submitted a ballot that was about 50% blank.

Some of the categories like "My favorite place to Buy Stuff inworld" were so broad it was hard to pick through the apples, oranges, pears, cherries, and fork lifts to come up with an answer. LL did seem to be paying attention to the comments, so hopefully they will fix a lot of that sort of problems if they do this again.

I voted for "NCI (Multiple Locations)" on the "My favorite place to be all helpful and Help Newbies" category and NCI's "Ginny Gremlin Park" in Kuula for "My favorite unforgettable Memorial". I also encouraged other people in NCI to vote for these two.

"Linden Lab Mainland" was a shoo-in for my "My favorite trashed landscape in which to enjoy the Post Apocalypse" vote. I picked Massively (and Tateru Nino) for "My favorite source for Second Life News" and Second Thoughts (and Prokofy Neva) for "My favorite finger-on-the-pulse Resident Blogger"

I found out this weekend that a friend of mine voted "Carl's Inventory" for best "My favorite culturally consequential Museum/Art Gallery". That was nice of them since I had to take my Castle Kuula Museum of SL Resident art into inventory pending a new home (where it would not come under the purview of the Linden Nipple Police).

hee looks like most of my predictions came true. I'm glad my friend Vickie Greenwood won a whopping 3 awards, she deserves them. Never thought about Barerose/June Dion, but that should have been obvious, cheap clothes are always a crowd pleaser. :)

My favorite trashed landscape in which to enjoy the Post Apocalypse
.....Does "The mainland" count as an answer?

"My favorite depressing place to Be Emo"
.....How many of us are thingking "the SL Forums?"

"Best place to Learn Another Language"
.... any "new policy" blog post by the lindens?

I have to agree though, some of those categories are awfully specific, and leave out a lot of really deserving content creators. As a commercial content creator, I'm going to break type and say that I too wish these awards were non-commercial.

Why do we need a government sponsored popularity contest?

Apparently, the best place for live music is a place that doesn't have live music.

Weird how the best place to dance is Dance Island where nobody talks, and the lag is so bad you can't even move.

Just another sad attempt from SL to say what is popular and what isn't.. just like Showcase sham.. They put camper infested and bot infested places in there. And don't rotate the old ones .. Not even an equal opportunity system that's for sure.
They don't even take the time to show all the places that were voted on and numbers for the Resdient Choice awards. Of course you will never see numbers .
100ds and thousands of awesome places make up Sl and they gotta do things this way. It really amazes me Their lack of promoting those who helped promote them and bring them to where they are today.

On the results blog most of the awards (if not all now) say "Most popular" Most popular being who got the most votes from those who bothered to vote. I didnt vote so I am happy with the results as they are.

Like a lot of people I had no idea who Vickie Greenwood was. Now that Ive seen some of her work I can see why other people voted for her. That half-prim sculpty house she made is truly impressive. It opens up a whole new range of possibilities for making homes on 512s and 1024s for people on limited budgets. Personally I think thats worthy of an award all by itself.

Y'know I've noticed this when searching for Live Music events -- apparently a lot of people think that a live DJ qualifies as Live Music and bill it as such. :/

just saw the list... can't help but wonder what percent of the actual *real* population 6000 is. Even with all the different bots on the grid and alts and such... 6000 would still be a drop in the bucket... so I have a feeling, these places may not actually be the "most popular".
(now to go read the list LOL)

And a lot of people think a "live DJ" is someone who is present to run several (or dozens of) chat bots. And to press "play" on a stream.
