I felt much the same as the OP, and posted in the comments there.

Steampunk? Ya, it's Caledon most likely

Tinies? Oh, it's the Raglan Shire category.

Linden Bear Museum? Really?

A lot of them feel very obvious to me. Others, well, I can't really answer (kissing? really? How about the other bases?), and many my answers would be so marginalized to not count (Chelsea's Childrens' Clothes for best fashion! HardKnock Elementary for best roleplay!)

Hm. Well.

With a huge community PLUS a resident gateway group, doing any sort of mention of this vote inworld would be... really tacky of me.

And besides, I'm 100% full with a waiting list. So what would I do to make money, anyway? Not keen on expanding right now (remember, not wildly expanding like everybody else saved my tail and limited the damage from the openspace debacle).

I pledge right now to not drum up support for Caledon.

Best not to carry on about the issue, either, so... gonna recuse myself from further posting to this thread unless someone throws really, really rotten tomatoes at me.

I'm having a little trouble with the rules. It almost looks like you have to vote in all 35 categories. I haven't done or cared about half the things on the list.

Oh well I can try just voting for what I know.

OFF TOPIC: Is this taking the place of the 6th Birthday Party of Second Life?

ON TOPIC: They do not say if they will display all of the votes for everything on their website or just the winners. I am thinking this is Linden Showcase Bump and only what they privately approve of will be promoted.

This seems rushed and not well thought out. Let the gaming begin.

Oh come on now, don't be deliberately obtuse. How many Linden Bear Museums are there in SL, honestly? Why couldn't the category be "Museums"?

How many Post Apocalyptic areas are there? Couldn't it have been "RP sim"?
How many places are there to 'Victorianize and get Steam Punky'? Shouldn't it have been 'Best place for bygone era roleplay'?

The categories are very leading, way too specific, and obviously designed to drive votes toward some of LL's favorite things.

Even if there was a collar category, which we all know damn well there never would be, I wouldn't participate. Awards are pretty much a joke.

But this just shows LL is like a parent that gives their kid a coloring book, but instead of letting them enjoy it, they insist on showing them the 'right way' to color, fussing over it and getting upset when they use the 'wrong' color and go outside the lines. LL really needs to honestly stop meddling and let people in SL decide things for themselves.

I see where you are are coming from....

Unlike Desmond, I have no shame in letting people know The Wastelands is a great candidate for the Post Apocalypse. #31

If you've never been there, stop by some time. ^_^

Well maybe it's just me because I know exactly what LL loves to go on and on and on about. If you ever browse Linden Account picks, you'll see the same few places there every time. Some are generic, but some really leave a lot to be desired.

So for those that seem obvious to me, I'll put down my guesses for winner:

My favorite visionary Machinimist: Robbie Dingo
Best place to buy a Virtual Pet: Cartoonimals
My favorite place to Victorianize and get Steam Punky: Caledon
My favorite place to be all helpful and Help Newbies: the GNUbie Store
My favorite place to plan for the Robot Rebellion: Museum of Robots
My favorite romantic place to have your First Avatar Kiss: Gardens of Apollo
My favorite trashed landscape in which to enjoy the Post Apocalypse: The Wastelands

and so on and so on. Here's a hint, all of these places are on the showcase. :)

Hmm I really hope these categories are an April Fool's joke.

When I read your OP I agreed with you that there were obvious winners for a lot of the categories - including some of these you have selected - but your choices are not all the same as the ones I thought were obvious (although most of them are).

I have to say when this was first blogged about, I thought it was good, especially in light of the fact it would be based on resident input only. However, as is often the case, the awards became a huge disappointment once I saw the 'categories' people were given to vote in.

Sadly these categories are so narrow, there can be only one logical winner for each. So in effect by making the questions this narrow, LL has pre-determined the winner. In many cases there is only one place in SL which even fits into the category. Way to go LL, you have managed to 'fix' a voluntary voting process.

http://secondlife.com/resident-choice-awards/

You're right, every ONE of the answers I would vote for is exactly the same as yours and every other person in SL, 100% rigged............................

A popularity contest, rigged and gamed? You don't say.

Hopefully they'll publish every reasonable answer. It'd actually be quite useful, particularly to newbies, if this was more like a condensed "what's your favorite..." forum post.

And the Linden Bear thing was probably included for fun.

*shrugs* Doesn't matter to me. I've learned to ignore any contests run by LL that isn't strictly lottery based.

It would have been preferable if the list stuck to things to do rather than places to spend money. Anything involving money will end up being gamed to death by those who stand to profit.

I agree; its one vote per avatar which can easily be gamed by alts. One vote from registered user would have been better.

There were at least five Linden Bear Museums. One of mine ran out of time, and the other closed when the land sold. So at least 3 remain.

Should probably have been museums.

Yes, I wouldn't have picked the same ones the OP picked automatically.

Linden Bear Museum? Really?

Um . . there is/was more than one.

It is the only category I could have ever won in, since I can't build/sing/etc. And I closed the bear museum because it had no visitors. But it did exist.

My bears are homeless :(

But what if we throw roses your direction? I think the category is too narrow, but your accomplishments with Caledon are still quite worthy of recognition.

And it looks like all the winners get is an "atta-boy" anyway...

Waiting to look at the list again tomorrow, to be sure it wasn't an April Fools prank...

I was going to put your bedroom down for the Bear Museum category. What's the SLURL?
