Hi. This bug appeared about a month ago and I filed a bug report. It is a difficult bug to describe so I will back it up with pictures as well as words.

This is not happening only to me or clothing i make. It is effecting business for myself and other designers, please help.

A normal skirt is fine. However if you slit the center of the skirt, for example on making it as a long jacket bottom, the back of the skirt when viewed from the front of the avatar is invisible. It will show up in edit appearance and if you scroll way in it will snap into appearance. Howver operating normally it is now invisible. This causes the front of the skirt to appear to be two strands on the left and the right, but nothing in middle, unless u view avie from behind in which case it is clear there is a lot more fabric to the skirt.

I know this is hard to conceptualize, so pics will follow.

umm...what happened to manage attachments? i cant post a pic here. :(

Arrgh. Someone please tell me if this is a known issue that you are working on? I Imd live help and offered to show them the problem, but they said go try preview or file a bug report. I have filed bug report and I have tried the preview and problem still exists. If you dont know what bug I am referring to I will gladly show anyone in world or send photos.

Please know this is not me suddenly forgetting how to make a texture, this is a legitimate bug. In my photos I am using default options, blank texture, nothing i uploaded and same thing.

This is causing many of my outfits to look seriously screwed up which means customers think i designed it this way or they want a new one cuz they think theirs is broken. I have waited weeks since filing bug report to voice this here. Please advise when it will be resolved.

Yup, it borks up all my long coats, and leads some wierd looking stuff.
It seems to be an LOD thing, as it resolves when i zoom in close.
I cant for the life of me when I first noticed it, but it has been for some time now.

Well it hinkt hey made them single-sided polys by defualt, double-normaled polys are alot more intensive based on how you make them, and avatar polys have to be dynamic, so it'd be a tough call. more "lag" or the ability to see under a skirt realistically =P

It appears to be happening to skirts with alpha textures as well. I thought something looked odd about some of my outfits. Now I know what it is! Dunno how I missed this bug.

Can we get confirmation that it's not isolated to one video card chipset? I'm running NVIDIA. Anyone with ATI have this problem?

oh and btw, yes it certainly does happen with alphas. My designs use alpha. However, just to see if it happened with nothing imported from me, I tried it with default sliders and same thing. The pics i posted are made using pure basic "create skirt" functions in Appearances. This was to eliminate any replies that focused on my skills as a designer rather than the bug itself as I am hopeful if Linden's realize the bug they will fix it. I don't want to waste any more time answering questions as to what program i was using to make the alpha, blah blah blah.

any Lindens want to let us know when this bug will be addressed. i have been in SL nearly a year and never had a problem til one of the last updates. surely, it can't be a complete nightmare to resolve. i am chomping at the bit to release a new outfit, but will not until i know it will look right.

help!

I'm in preview (1.9.1.11) right now, and it appears this bug is gone. Not sure if this is a temporary thing though. I wouldn't count it squashed until a Linden comments.

i just went in to preview 1-9-1-12 and the bug is still there.

what is also odd is that my av is in clothes i haven't worn in a while, but if i click on folder containing those items in inventory it doesn't show i am wearing any of them. if i click appearance, a different outfit shows up when i am in edit mode..leave edit mode and i'm back in first outfit.

whatever, right now i just want the damn skirt bug fixed or at the very least an Linden nod that we are being heard and they are working on fixing it.

helllll-ooooooooooo

*listens to echo....awaits reply.......

hello?

has nothing to do with seeing under a skirt or lag. it is simply a bug with one of the latest updates. if you looked at the images, you would understand what's happening. i highly doubt they wanted their slit function to look like crap from now on. they worked "by default" for years and i'm pretty confident they will again.

Bug Update
04-23-2006 15:04
ok. i have been really trying to investigate this bug. i have had multiple people complain about it and all are on Nvidea cards. I have a friend not on Nvidea who does NOT have the bug. I will obviously update my drivers today and see if it helps, but i thought this info might be helpful to LL.

incidentally, i am disheartened that no one at LL is replying. i have been really patient in my approach to this, waiting weeks after bug report to post here. i have read the long list of known issues and this does not appear on it, so a few hours ago i saw jeska online and asked if i could simply point out a bug to her and she could pass it along to appropriate party. i sent link to this thread also. she did not have autoresponder on telling u to go to live help, which i thought was really nice, but hours have passed with no reply from my IM. :( i am not feeling the love, LL.

anyway, i will try updating vid card and post back here to let you all know if we can fix this from our own ends.

Hiii kaia, hi everyone! Sorries to hear of the frustration with this. :(

Just wanted to add that... I found out Milo Linden sees it himself on Nvidia but not ATI, as kaia said too--so while not solidly confirmed, we are looking for more reproductions of this. Please, please send a bug report from HELP menu in SL Preview 1.9.1 with the details.

This problem is entered in our database and in want of more info, you can help us fix it!

I couldn't get this to happen for me--yet--on an Nvidia GeForce 7800GT, but if I do, I'll post here... OMG I JUST GOT IT TO HAPPEN! (Pictures to come shortly.) Count me in for this too guys.

I wish us all the best in this getting fixed! :)

torley = my hero
04-23-2006 23:14
I was feeling kind of sad tonight that i couldn't get a reply from anyone and as a last resort I decided to IM another Linden and saw Torley was online. I figured she was my best shot and sure enough I got a friendly, helpful reply. I can't believe she went the extra mile and replicated the bug and posted photos. I'm truly impressed and feel a lot better, so TY!

I have done as Torley recommended and went to preview to file a bug report.

Other designers or residents who are frustrated that their clothing looks sporked, please heed Torley's advice and take the 5 mins to go to preview and file a bug report about this. Let's be squeeky wheels and also do what we can to help LL resolve this bug. There is hope! Perhaps it is smart to include whether or not you are using Nvidia to help Milo narrow it down. Post here too.

Thanks again Torley for hearing me and making a geniune effort to help. It means a lot.

We got it. Thanx!!!

Hot off the press: Steve Linden checked in a fix for this and pending verification from LL Quality Assurance, it'll be making its way into an upcoming preview soon... look for it. (Literally, look for your skirt to come back!) :D

Will it be mentioned in the release notes, unlike how the "extended ASCII character in Windows user name profile directory prevents SL from starting" bug wasn't mentioned in 1.9.1.13's release notes as being fixed?
