Strife Onizuka - I'm going to lock this because the thread is too long. Feel free to restart the thread and link to posts contain within. All I ask is that the thread have a name that better describes the situation (and that the rules are observed).

The thread entitled "Automated Burglary" had 1,117 replies. It was closed for being too long.

The Sexy Avie thread has 1,327 posts and was posted in again today. Better shut it down also Strife.

What other threads are dangerous because of length and needs to be silenced? Help Strife weed them out.

I like your way with sarcasm, bbB.

Strife, baby, the long threads show me at a glance that this is an important issue/topic to other SLians and that I should read it. Does it screw up the Forum site to host a long thread? Is this a technology problem?

I think it's actually helpful that the core issues have been resummarised in a new topic without (yet) endless pages of to-and-fro.

Thats a new one to me.

Considering how many threads get closed for being off topic or slightly opinionated I cant believe that this thread is being closed because it is too long.

Get your head out of your arse Strife, this is not a valid reason!

I think it's actually helpful that the core issues have been re-summarized in a new topic without (yet) endless pages of to-and-fro.

We used to refer to 'to-and-fro as a discussion of the topic at hand. People agree to disagree about the many points involved with the issue and then we can finally, hopefully, get down to the real issues. The *shiny NEW thread** on this topic is just re-hashing everything discussed already in the illegal length thread.

I had thread closed when I was new but it wasn't any mod I saw ever again afterwards because I didn't ask question when I first discover jello like prims called flexibles and some mentioned poles with flexibles and just was about to ask more questions but it was closed....
But I see tons of threads that never ask questions.
So I wonder this is that way?
Is it some threads are closed because they can, while others are ignored because the mods are busy?

It's cause there is ONLY ONE MOD. For all practical purposes.

And only and ever and always will be ONLY ONE PERSON. One resident volunteer.

I liked the part where OP couldn't tell 2 years from 3... must be that SL day night cycle effect. I also like how, as an alleged female player in SL.. she would ALLOW her best buddy to look like "that" for 2 years (or 3 as the story states). MOreover, I can't really beleive that anyone would be in SL for 2 years and not see enough avatars on the grid to either go "OMG what was I thinking" and run out and get a new shape... or else if it was a minor, not yet have on a full compliment of ninja gear after 2 years.

The prologue was fairly engrossing though, and until I got to the leet speek part I was willing to at least "suspend my disbeleif. Thing was though... "parental controls say I've played too much".... and the teller is still questioning?

Your approach to political commentary is intriguing, but I have yet to be able to discern on which side of the issue, your arguments fall.

And why is that? I'm sure there are plenty of people who would love to help moderate the forums.

I don't know. There are more resmods on paper (there's a list at the bottom of this or the other page), but really, they rely on just one person.

I think tons of threads get closed for being too long

They just are called "off-topic" or "outlived its usefulness" , etc.

While Strife didn't say it this way, this is what I read into his comment on "automated burglary"

I'm closing this thread because I should have locked it ages ago and was too busy/distracted/elsewhere to do so and it's gone on far longer than it should have. If the immortal soul of this dead horse hasn't also been beaten beyond recognizability, please feel free to open a new thread on this topic.... with a more appropriate name than this one had.

So Strife, what is the LL policy on thread length exactly?

I have searched the rules and do not see anything about it. Or was this a matter of personal preference on your part more then an actual official ruling?

It is not uncommon at all to have long threads locked. When a thread gets too long, it is impossible for someone to really understand what has happened in the thread. A new thread on the same topic is started with a link back to what was already said. What I am surprised at is that it took over 1000 posts to lock the thread, I would have expected it be around 250 or at most 500.

Most of you don't like the ResMod. We all get it. But if you read the post he made when he locked it, you will notice that he said, "Feel free to restart the thread and link to posts contain within." So he was not stopping the discussion, just ending that section of it. Really, who is going to read over 1000 posts before responding?

Hiya there, Spinmeister Without Shame. Read it again (no, don't bother, I'm telling everybody else to read it so they can see what you are ignoring - and grossly, GROTESQUELY, misreporting.)

Strife specifically invited people to continue these discussions on other threads, with references as appropriate to the one he closed.

You really have no integrity at all, do you, Rusty Satyr? You have had your nose rubbed in your intellectual dishonesty more than once, and here you are again, back at the same old stand, with the same old contemptible, dishonest tricks. You really do think other people are stupid, don't you? Well, here,on these forums, they are not.

Perhaps you are a masochist, and LIKE having your nose rubbed in it? If so, congratulations. You have come to the right place.

Interested parties, please see Stirfe's locking post on Automated Burglary, and decide for yourself. If you think Rusty is indeed insulting your intelligence, well, what did I tell you?

 that's outrageous. it erodes the little confidence I had remaining for the Linden's abuse management measures in-world. is it similarly over-the-top and unreasonable there too or did i just observe an isolated incident? an in-world ban for activity in a forum just stinks. and that thread was tame compared to some here.

i'm bowing out for a bit. i don't want to go getting an in-world ban for pissing off the wrong person here.
take care all. :(
