A problem with overactive res mods

Coco, I'm not trying to be mean to our ResMods - or anyone for that matter. But when the amount of ARs have tripled, that leads me to believe a few things, like that personal dislikes are being taken out in an anonymous reporting system. Its like the worst kind of high-school snitching. Its that behavior that I'm poking fun at with my very mild insult, "forum nannies." Its just meant as a playful jibe to describe the behavior.

Regards,

-Flip

I don't see the problem you have with threads going where they belong. NO we can't make special exceptions for the FFRC. NO you can't post event advertisements in the scriptings forums. And YES we will move misplaced threads.

Vivianne, you have seen complaints and even rudeness from some scripters, but it doesn't mean all scripters are complainers or rude. Anyway, I figure the box office project is too complex for some and doesn't pay enough to tempt some others.

The project you're trying to get done would be time consuming and isn't as easy as it might look. I know, because my company recently did a project that involved working with the SL land pass system. What looks like a huge prize pot might not actually work out so great on an hourly basis. Particularly since this is a contest . . . they could work their butts off and get nothing and have no one use their code. If the scripters thought it looked like fun, those things wouldn't matter so much. If they could just work on parts of it instead of so many different areas, that would help, too -- scripters usually specialize some.

I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm just telling you what I know.

Although the scripters I talked to didn't want to enter, I am certain there are scripters out there for whom this is a great opportunity, and I'm sure some of them will come up with a great box office.

You know I'd agree with you if there wasn't often a post on the scripters forum bitching about how no one appreciates them and how they don't get paid enough for their work. So we put together a contest with a HUGE prize pot. Last I looked we had raised almost 50K for it -- and you say they thought it wasn't enough. And that they aren't interested in money.

I think they need to make up their minds.

I RARELY use that button. I do mean EXTREMELY rarely. And coco I believe you when you say you dont AR as a habit.

But damnit, what do people get out of doing it all the time?

Because believe me, there are those that do. I have seen it with my own eyes, by watching the Who's Online list...

This is an excellent point that needs to be addressed. LL removed the who's online list from the bottom of the forums screen but the list still exists on the sl forums (Quick Links >Who's Online) Showing who is reporting a post. Well it doesn't take an expert to figure out that is bad. If ppl know a person is reporting posts they are more likely to bash that individual in the forums. Tit for tat as it were. Ya think maybe LL should remove that for the sake of its subscribers feeling safe in their forum enviroment hmmm? I think they should.

I've never singled out nor bashed anyone in particular for it, but yes, you're right, and the thought has crossed my mind too.

As long as people can see who is reporting, and the mods keep mentioning numbers, vague though they may be, we do not have a fully anonymous AR system.

I am with Flipper though as well, because even with the ability to see if someone's reporting (which is rare to be sure - it's really a happenstance thing that you will see that in the list), I think it's obvious there are a few individuals that are trying to play resmod by proxy by hammering on that button, which is just sad.

Vivianne I am always touched when I see you "getting my back" as it were, in the Forums. I was briefly bemused to see that post moved, but it does heighten for me the need for some forum by which people who are not scripters can converse with scripters specifically about scripting.

I empathize that sometimes sorting can be a tough call, especially when people sometimes even make a game out of posting threads inappropriately for ResMods to sort. I suppose that if I had said right in the post (please leave this here as scripters want to see this and there is no appropriate thread for this that they actually read) I might not have been bumped. I wouldn't want to be a ResMod, I know, as sorting of any kind is my least favourite task (thus my hideously disorganized inventory where EVERYTHING is an Object! lol).

All in all, I'd say good job, ResMods, but maybe if noone is complaining about a post, or there is a reason why someone might have cross posted that is common sensical and not overtaxing the system, then perhaps give the OP the benefit of the doubt on it.

Cheers Vivianne. You are the best Events Manager and a great friend. See you in world.
