From: MadamG Zagato NEW? Are you kidding me?? The current resmods have been moderating these forums for nearly a year. The first documented thread that Strife locked was on May 20, 2006. I am not sure when the resmod program started exactly, but when people get in positions of "power" and are left there with no one to answer to and have a 'blank check' so to speak...it turns into a dictatorship. Reference: /290/b5/106869/3.html#post1046701/290/b5/106869/3.html#post1046701 Interesting. So the first thread he ever locked was one started by a Linden. coco

From: CoyoteAngel Dimsum Have you stopped for a moment to consider your actions? If you have a complaint, why not make it privately? Would you like complete strangers coming into your place of business and singling you out for loud and derogatory public castigation? This isn't his place of business any more than it is mine. Strife is a resident, just like the rest of us. He's a volunteer who for some reason has been given the entire LL forums to moderate almost single-handedly, and has the idea that without him they will fold. And I'm not a complete stranger; nobody talking here is. This isn't his place of business. It's our forums. coco

From: Meade Paravane Well, if you're banned from the RA forum, I think it could be argued that you can't get away with it. I hope to never hear you complain about anything the Lindens do or say to you, ever, then, because you've demonstrated it's obviously fine for a volunteer employee to harass, belittle and offend others so by proxy the paid ones can tell you you're an idiot for asking questions as well. Thankfully the people who think what Strife's doing is good are in the stated minority, and are often very new. Most of the other people remember what actual moderation is, not this passive-aggressive trolling that he puts on as his "duty."

I said that his comments were nothing compared to yours. You said you don't work for LL so you can get away with it. I pointed out that you are banned from the RA forum so maybe you can't get away with it.
So.. What's your comment have to do with what you quoted?
To say Strife is in the wrong because he sometimes closes threads that shouldn't be closed, that's fine - I've already said I don't always agree with him - but to stamp your feet and whine about his abusive language is just silly. I've since read a bunch of Strife closings - if you can't take that kind of language, try the Disney site.

From: Strife Onizuka I submitted the thread for review, there were just too many unique ARs on guideline violations.

I've since read a bunch of Strife closings - if you can't take that kind of language, try the Disney site. You must have never worked in the customer service industry. Customers can curse and yell and scream at the employees when they're pissed. If the employee yells and curses and screams back, they lose their job. It's simple enough logic. Strife has acted like a baby, time and again, and insulted others many times simply for posting. He has a stated bias on closing threads posted by people he dislikes, as he's demonstrated routinely. He has a stated bias on closing threads that deal with anything that's being discussed in tandem with Second Citizen, where he is universally unwelcome by both the userbase and the moderator/site owner for threatening him with legal action when I posted harassing PMs from Strife sent here. Again, what I do and how I respond to Strife is irrelevant. I don't work for LL. I don't hold a customer service position with LL. If Strife ever behaved that way at any job I've ever held, he would've rightly lost his position there. Why he remains here despite Torely reprimanding him both publicly and privately is beyond me.

coco Is that really the first? Didn't know that. It's not really all that interesting, it is common knowledge that it's not who starts a thread but what goes on in a thread that determines if it gets locked. We don't believe in or practice discrimination. I remember that thread (vaguely), Eep's trolling/flaming was particularly blatant which is the real reason for it being locked. The type of transparency that everyone has gotten use to wasn't the practice then.

That's odd. It was someone called Eep who was the first person to get banned from a (now) large The Sims 2 site for similar reasons

From: Joshua Nightshade ... they're dead because Strife studiously maintains his grip on any and all discussion here ... They are effectively dead (in the sense of being at all useful, anyways) for many many more reasons than that .

It's simple enough logic. And companies can throw you out or hang up on you for that behaviour. I don't see anything in the links provided worth getting worked up about, and strifes behaviour in this thread suggests he does not act like a "baby".

It was interesting to me though. Never MIND that one anyhow. I want to be able to talk about Voice! coco

I've been here three years, and I think Strife's doing fine, for the most part. Forum moderation is a crappy job, and no matter how perfectly it's done, someone is always going to be unhappy with it. As for Strife sometimes being rude, frankly I can sympathize. I've been in customer service for a number of years, and there have been many times when I've felt an urge to strangle the person on the other end of the line. Too often, people are abusive to customer service people because they know they'll get away with it, they know the employee has to take it or lose his job. I'm surprised he's lasted this long without getting fed up with it all.

*locks* The forums is not the place for personal attacks. Torley Linden adds:In particular: Private discussions – the forums are a public area for the Second Life community’s use. Individuals who have a dispute with each other have other channels of communication to discuss their differences or communicate – private messaging, IM within Second Life, or chatting within Second Life. Also, threads that are addressed to a single individual or group are inappropriate on the forums, this includes slander or "naming names" in a posts title, starting polls about a particular resident or group, etc.
Please see our guidelines for more on what's appropriate in the SL forums - /invalid_link.html
