Edit the second: It's ready for download here through LibSecondLife. Thanks, folks! Now to let the Lindens know. EDIT: Scratch the below. IT'S READY! Just need to find hosting. I'm this >< close to releasing a Linux live CD. It's based on the Knoppix 5.0.1, with a ton of stuff thrown out to be a useable CD yet have room enough for the NVidia drivers. Changes: * 24-bit color fixed in template xorg.conf * Wrote SLRun.pl to set up SL initially w/proper graphics settings. * Modded the main page that's pulled up on boot into KDE * Modded the isolinux.cfg to make sure the NVidia module that was compiled in was put in.

Fixed two items. Will need to write a new Knoppix HTML page for the CD, muck with the isolinux setup, and it'll be ready to go.
Anyone know of where I can *HOST* this?

Damn that's cool. If I can take a look at the image you have now, I may be willing to seed a bittorent of it. I've thought of this before, it is a brilliant idea. How is it working so far ?

Is it upgradeable? SL releases a lot of versions, seemingly once a week or more. Its useless if its not.
As for the drivers, did you also include dri for integrated adapters and the ATi drivers?

libsecondlife.org should be able to host this, how big is the ISO?

Submit it to DistroWatch, Drake!
08-13-2006 16:56
A Linux distribution that's specifically tuned to running SL deserves to be put on the DistroWatch page. Their submission form is not working as I'm writing this, but you can drop them an email at distro@distrowatch.com
Thanks, Drake!

As for the drivers, did you also include dri for integrated adapters and the ATi drivers? The CD uses SLInstaller and my own SLRun scripts. The DRI is already included for NVidia chipsets. ATI drivers clashed w/NVidia, and thus are not included.

I've played SL on my laptop in Linux which has an intel and its obviously playable. Limiting it solely to Nvidia drivers makes this a rather targetted CD.

Could you post a howto on getting the accelerated intel drivers installed, and SL working? I know a lot of people would find this useful. I had been saying it was not possible without NVidia or ATI cards..

Installing Dri for the Intel card is pretty easy. I've done it a couple of times for my laptop. http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/BuildingThat is the step by step on it. I usually don't build Mesa 3D from CVS and just get the latest stable from the Mesa 3D website. Once that is all done, run glxgears to test it to make sure it worked and then fire up SL.

Good feedback here ;0 I'd like to see ATI and intel graphics solutions for this as well.
