Great! I was on briefly last night, and said Hi to Zi who was also there. I used the normal interface.

I just looked if it was stable, and what graphics stuff works, but it looked great!

Thank you, Tofu! You REALLY have a great way with our precious Linux Client! :D

--- EDIT ---

We now need 1.12.3.2 to get on :p * sigh * :o

Ah, typical... :) Well, I've just rolled a Linux 1.12.3.2 and it should hopefully be on the site soon.
edit: It's up now!

1.12.3.2 appears to be running 2x the previous clients. Woot.

The new dialogs are wonderful too.
Also noticed that bump mapping, wavy cloth and avatar vertex rendering now works, no more crash on that.

Is the start/stop movie to disk function working yet?

Tofu, best version yet :)

I'd agree with Merrick, this one seems to run at a fair old tilt even in the city sims!

Something I noticed with the upload dialogs is that the first on pops up in front of the SL window and centered on it, all subsequent ones pop up behind the window and up in the top right.

Oh well. I downloaded and tried but it wanted to download a new version which I just downloaded.
Don't worry. I'll wait.

Did you run

./secondlife --aditi

instead of

./secondlife

? Because, you have to, to connect to the preview grid.

Great news, Tofu!

On first glance, all looks good, File upload dialoks work (apart from bulk upload), external browser works even for KDE *woot!*. Bump + Cloth still crashes here.

More when I did more tests.

Edit:

File upload only works for .wav here (bulk upload as well as single). .tga images say "File is empty", and .bvh animations say: "Could not read translation matrix".

Not yet for me :( I have everything turned on except bump mapped and cloth, and it's running great! But turning on bumps causes SL to disappear without a trace :p

I uploaded a jpg OK, though - and the file picker is SO nice!

Thanks for the feedback! The file-picker will get some polish further down the line - probably after Beta.

Zi, I haven't been able to reproduce a problem with uploading (bulk or otherwise) tga and bvh files - please let me know if you figure anything out.

./secondlife --grid ADITI
./secondlife --grid aditi
./secondlife --aditi
./secondlife --ADITI
./secondlife --siva
None of those worked

Do this:

1. Install Midnight Commander.
2. mkdir SecondLife-Main, SecondLife-Preview
3. mc . .
4. Using Midnight Commander in one pane, move to where you have SL-1.12.2.9's archive at, and hit return -- it opens up. Open it up, and drill down into the directory. Use the Insert key to select everything. Tab over to the other pane, open up SecondLife-Main. Tab back, F5 Copy the contents over. Then return over the ".." directories to get out of the archive.
5. Do the same for SL-1.12.3.3, putting it in SecondLife-Preview
6. F10 out of Midnight Commander.

CD into SecondLife-Preview and "./secondlife --aditi"

1. Install Midnight Commander.
I`ve played with Midnight Commander, from the DSL and Knoppix live CDs I have. I kinda like it, but KUbuntu`s Adept system installation wizzard doesn`t know it exists. What do I need to install it? Please don`t ask me to compile anything; I don`t know how, beyond Beginning Compiling 010.

Activate the Mulitverse and Universial repositories in Adept. It's in there, I just installed it on a new server install.

I keep getting the download new client request. My version keeps coming up at 1.12.3.2 (which seems right) but it asks for version 1.12.3.3 (which is know is the Mac/Windows Clients). I run ./secondlife --aditi, it loads, and says I need 1.12.3.3. I looked all around for the newer version. Anyone have any ideas? (Yes, I am running from the correct version, and even went so far as to use MC to create a SLpreview folder with the newest client).

For the pile-on test on the preview grid yesterday a new viewer was rolled out. Unfortunately there is no Linux version for 1.12.3 (3) yet. But considering that tomorrow is the intended release, that's not too much of a loss.

I'm rolling a Linux 1.12.3.3 now - it should be up in a bit.
We're working to get the Linux client integrated into the regular release procedure soon, so that they can always be released at the same time as the other platforms!

That would be great! Thanks for the message!

I'll have a look at the 1.2.3 (3) preview tonight and check on file uploading again :)

Ok, as promised, further testing on the 1.12.3 (3) preview:

Image upload still gives me an error. The log file indicates that it's a problem in the kakadu (jpg2000) library or at least about the conversion:

That's interesting... I wonder if it's a number-parsing issue due to locale (period versus comma). Would you mind posting your LANG and LC_* env vars?

Bingo!

I set LANG="" then everything worked! My $LANG was de_DE before. So either the client should watch out for regional settings or we need to unset LANG before playing.

Edit: No LC_* variables set whatsoever.

Great bug hunt!

Thanks for the info! I can reproduce it here so I'll get a fix (or workaround) in soon.
