I have a graphical glitch since (I think) two first look versions including latest (57947)

I have animated flexy wings which can flap. But since two (perhaps three) versions now the movement is very jerky. like moving 2 cm smoothly then skip everything and going directly to the end position of the movement.

It's rather hard to explain, so does anyone have a better reproduction possibility with a similar thing? Best would be something anyone can visit and look at, but I didn't find anything like that until now.

I don't know if I can make a movie out of that, never tried before. If anyone wants to see it in action feel free to IM me in-world.

Very slow at ground level
02-17-2007 01:34
FL 58100, Kubuntu, Amd1500/512, 64mb nvidia.
Super slowmo action at ground level, I mean I can't click or edit anything at a decent pace.
Click, wait just one second, it moves, pings are a half sec and Fps is about 2.
This is the same in the menus, hover mouse over menu item and a half to 1sec later it highlights.
I am the only av in the sim.

At 700 meters this is not happening. 20fps.
I guess its my slow 256k connection, but the menus?

Just thought Id post here in case it is something.

First look 58100 doesn't run for me on Mandirva - it has dependencies on libmozjs and libxul - the second of which is in mozilla-sunbird, for some reason. When I install the right packages and modify the secondlife script , it's complaining about unknown symbol jpeg_natural_order. I have no idea what library this is in.

I'm concerned because this version will become the official version later this week, so it looks like there's some pretty major problems with the packaging of the linux version right now, all in the name of Mozilla support I don't need! The previous first look version ran perfectly with change.

... 64mb nvidia...

That is not much for graphic memory :(

I have had memory problems with a 128 MB card, and come close to filling 256 MB.

To me it does sound a bit like a graphics chokeup ...

I am not sure this is true. On the Blog, it says the rendering improvements will be built into the normal client, but the announcement about Wednesday 21st Feb downtime is - 2 hours downtime for maintenance, no new viewer required :p

It looks like they may put out a 1.13.4 client for the preview grid, with the rendering improvements integrated, and not either replace the current client completely nor replace the live client on Wednesday, and also NOT use the current First Look client as the preview version.

It seems that the rendering stuff will be integrated into the production client instead.

Notice the heavy overuse of the words "seems" and its synomyms :D

It's been a while but now "It's my shout!"
02-19-2007 03:37
Holy cow! Finally for some reason this FL-58100 is not freezing up for me on my No1 machine. Kubuntu6.10,AMD1650MHz,256mbNV card, now with 1.5Gb ram.
It was freezing right after logon, but now I am not having any problems to speak of.

This is what I've been waiting for (oops, did I say that, shhhh)
Building is functional, 'cept for a little rubber-banding, textures load well and teleporting leaves my boots on my feet not up my arse.

Got to thank the team for getting it up and I take back all the flack I chucked (only in frustration) and I might even keep my account.

I just hope you folks having difficulties get them addressed and get on with life, um, Second Life.
I for one, am a Happy Chappy. (for now anyway)

Hmm... Might have to change that sig now.

EDIT: Sorry, I did speak way too soon.

I'm really happy with 58100.

But I already had some freezes right after login. I don't know if this is a side effect of commenting out the LL_GL_BASICEXT variable to gain full performance. But tbh, running on lower performance is not an option to me as long as freezes are not that often.

Freezes can occur right after login or right after TP to me. And I think they have a higher chance to occur when I start moving or chatting while world is still rezzing everywhere.

Another old issue is still present to me: Memory consumption. It's not that often as in the past, but sometimes my memory gets eaten up by SL. When it has used up my whole 1 GB RAM and uses Swap about 512 MB then i mostly relog because framerate drops because of swapping. Until now I have no reproduction scenario... sadly...

Next issue is a new one. The login screen with HTML page and blog and status is a nice gimmick indeed. But for something I see as a gimmick it loads way too slow and above that it uses 30% CPU on one core and causes Xorg to use 70% on the other core of my Core2Duo. UI is rather unresponsive then. Until this issue is fixed, is there a way to disable this login screen somehow?

And good news is that it seems that I can use the whole vram of my graphics card now without choking when there are lots of textures in the visible range.

Buy on click does not work.FL 58185
02-22-2007 14:56
Buy on click (object is set to buy when clicked) does not work. $L icon appears when mouse is hovered over item but clicking it does nothing.
It does work with FL 58100 as I just tested it.
Can someone else tell me if I am alone.
No answer from another thread. Need an answer.

I have not seen this problem...

It may be that particular Vendor.

Can you give a location? Then I can verify if it is a problem with my setup, too...

Thanks. If you wanna check for me, my location is in the corner near the water at Ungnyo 236,16,52.
They are just simple object containers set to Buy Object (contents) when clicked.
Another poster said he was having the same issue in a windows version.

Edit: Must use 58185 viewer. The 58100 works fine.

Clicking on the objects gives a Pay option on windows 58185 viewer.

Some for sale items have a separate Buy box to click.

OK with the linux viewer, too.. but sloooow....

.. by the way, I may have misunderstood the problem: on the vendors in question, "buy" comes up if I RIGHT click on the BUY box, in the Pie selection.

It does not work if you just left click on the BUY box of the vendor. It DOES work in the normal client :( Then you get a window with contents and the option to pay - missing in the FL Client 58185.

Still broken in 58390.

Dynamic Reflections (though it is not a priority) seems to be broken with 58390. My Test Mirror no longer reflects anything useful, and shiny surfaces reflect more like damp pavement than the striking mirrors that were possible before.

What a pity! :(

And with RenderDynamicReflections enabled, shiny is, well, matt :p

This is confirmed by users on all platforms, but there is no workaround known yet and no Linden developer confirmed yet nor said that this is going to be addressed before the First Look client will be released as stable for everyone on Wednesday. At least not that I'm aware of.

I really hope they will withhold the release as there are other known really bad problems with it, e.g. where you can loose money by paying a vendor and not getting the object you paid for. Had that on Isle of Wyrms and lost 2.200 L$ (and yes I know I was stupid to try to make such a big purchase using First Look Client *g*)
At the moment you can switch to release client for buying things, but I really don't know what will happen after they release this First Look as stable without fixing this bug...

BUG (58603): apply texture to single face not possible
03-01-2007 12:18
With 58603 its no more possible to apply a texture to only a single prim face. You may, however, change other texturing parameters for only single prim faces.

How to repeat: Rez a box. Select "select texture". Select a single prim face. Click Texture->Texture. Choose one from inventory. Its applied to all faces.

I think, thats quite a showstopper.

Update: confirmed workarround (from blog): instead of selecting the texture, drag/drop it on the prim face.

58603: shiny broken
03-02-2007 03:32
Shiny seems somehow broken with 58603. I can still get shiny somehow, but it flat. See the two screenshots which show the exact same model:

Thats how its supposed to look like: http://www.blaxxtarz.de/tmp/orni_ok.jpg
... and thats how its looking with 58603: http://www.blaxxtarz.de/tmp/orni_broken.jpg

See the wings? Very ugly.

There is, however, shiny. Its not gone at all. I can get reflections with a sphere. But it renders wrong.

I HATE that

I think they did that to "limit the damage" that RenderDynamicReflections does when it is turned on. But I loved the "damage" that happened then, too... :p

Shiny is MUCH worse still if you turn "RenderDynamicreflections" on in Client, Debug. Then all shiny objects look like slightly wet concrete, or blotting paper

On the other hand, maybe this is a New Feature that we must admire? :D

First Look

So I'm running Ubuntu 6.10 and everything works pretty well. Occasionally a teleport will fail, and every once in a while I can walk through walls, etc... Also, sometimes I can't control my Avatar, but that could be for several reasons...

BTW, I'm running XGL/Compiz with Beryl 0.2.0

Seems like they're planing to separate Shiny from DynamicReflections, once the latter are out of testing phase:

Thanks! That thread told me a WHOLE lot!

I really enjoyed making mirrors in SL, and I hope it will be possible again. I still run First Look 58175 now and then, just to enjoy this aspect.

The latest buzz on that thread seems to be, that Mirrors On Arbitrary Prims, as we had, is out of the game altogether, and we are likely to just get mirror water, because of the performance hit. A pity - this COULD be covered, as mentioned in the thread, by a slider or something to enable the level of mirroring. Apparently this is too complex for the available project to get stable, though :(

Also expected to be developed, is that reflections of moving objects (you and me for example :p ) will also be excluded.

I guess we shall have to wait and see.

I still miss the mirrors we had though!
