That's useful information - can you tell me what graphics card and driver you have?
You can try setting LL_GL_NOEXT=x when running secondlife to avoid the GL extensions code.

I'm running using an nvidia geforce2 card using the legacy drivers.

Where do we set that item you mentioned before?

Ugh. I'd upgrade your Geforce 2, because I think NVidia isn't going to support Xorg 7.1 on those cards.

You can get a GeForce 5200 for like, $15 nowadays, and some really nice 6000 series in the low $80 area.

ATI fglrx issues...
09-28-2006 13:41
The short and simple is that the client deadlocks after rendering the first frame (or really close to the first frame) in world. i.e. after logging in and everything. That first frame looks nice, all shiney and everything.

Setting LL_GL_NOEXT=x when running SL prevents the deadlock.

gdb backtrace is seemingly unuseful:

I still have issues with libSDL-1.2.so.0 being missing, :eek: but linking it from an earlier install did the trick,:) and I`m in. :D I haven`t tested anything else yet, though.:o

Tofu, you`re doing a great job!:cool: Keep it up! ::hugs::

The entire Desktop locks up. Mouse movement is still possible, but selecting anything in X remains impossible.

A similar issue appears to occure on a different machine using an NVidia card. The only difference is that the SecondLife viewer continues to function on the NVidia card, even though no widgets/windows/anything are selectable with the mouse.

Logging in remotely and killing the secondlife-bin releases something and X works fine again afterwards. Thread mutex'ing problem?

Both cards behave normally when LL_GL_NOEXT=x is set.

I'm sorry for being a neophyte but HOW do you set LL_GL_NOEXT=x? Is it a comand line option? Or do you have to edit one of the text prefrences?

Its looking really nice. The only real issue I have noticed so far is I can no longer select 1024x768 for full screen resolution. I am stuck at 800x600.

Brolly do an "export LL_GL_NOEXT=x" that did the trick on my sys

In order to change the resolution the 'run in window' must be unchecked, the new resolution selected, then run in window rechecked. Though it appears that the client resets to the 800x600 setting. Anisotropic Filtering works along with enabling anti aliasing, 4x on nvidia cards looks best. :3

Be sure to have updated drivers to use these GL functions.

Side note: It appears avatar bump mapping and cloth will crash the client, however just enabling bump mapping has no problem.

The avatar vertex program appears to work nicely now.

CODE

I know this is how it used to work, but with the new version, the drop down menu was greyed out, whether or not "run in window" was checked. After I hand-edited the config file, the old behaviour appeared again, allowing selection of resolutions other than 800x600 for full screen.

My wife and I have both noticed intermittent transparency issues that are identical (or almost so) to the issues that SL through Wine continues to have.

Pants and jacket layers continuing on past where they're supposed to stop. Patches of clothes texture appearing on hand or foot skin areas... etc.

Still having problems with libstdc++:

From: someone
sauron@mordor:/tmp/SecondLife_i686_1_12_1_13> ./secondlife
bin/secondlife-bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4' not found (required by bin/secondlife-bin)
bin/secondlife-bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3' not found (required by bin/secondlife-bin)

SuSE 9.1
libstdc++-devel-3.3.3-41
libstdc++-3.3.3-41

Since LL won't bundle the 3.4 version, is there anyone who could give me a d/l link for it so I can drop it in $SECONDLIFE/lib?

Why they won't bundle it, I don't get.. They either didn't require 3.4 for the longest time, or they suddently decided to stop bundling it.. Lindens, could you clarify why, and give me a firm "we will/won't help you" (I don't really care either way.)

As I have stated before on this topic - not everybody is able to run the latest and greatest software - I have other dependencies that prevent me from upgrading to 10.x

So, Tofu - could you please clarify in regards to my earlier request?

I also have problems with the new version, with some skins.

White legs, bright pink body and a perfectly normal face :(

This does seem to be a similar issue that I had once before in wine, when I had to go to windows to get the appearance right before going back to wine.

This time, it just seems to come by itself, though, not after editing appearance.

I never noticed it before, but now that I have come in with an alt, I see my poor alt is stuck with this! Now I have a windows-only alt * sniff * :p

Changing skins and changing underwear did not make any difference. Wait, I can revise that - on one skin, my torso goes black, and on another my torso is normal :D But even with no underwear, no boots, my legs stay flat white.

Using the original skin, turning off all the advanced graphic options made no difference.

ADDENDUM

Going into Appearance in Windows, the Av displays correctly. As soon as I leave Appearance, the same problems exists.

After altering my top, saving, and altering it back, the torso displayed correctly.

Ditto for my undies, thereafter my legs displayed correctly.

It does seem to be a Linux client problem :(
