Am interested in particpating as well!

And yes, probably would be just as well to have one group.. maybe give out awards for some things like use of textures and such that you were going to make elements of the 'expert' design group. When I read that Khamon was opting for the fun group I wondered what would constitute being an expert! I mean that as the sincerest form of compliment Khamon.

Also for a good judge... look up 'The Sojourner' in world. She has run many a gardening/theme build contest in her Dreams land. She also has some voting machinery she has set up already for such things. Maybe you can borrow or get a copy.

I also can place a poster in Darkwood.. drop one on me when you can.

Any further thoughts on the size of the lots?

Yes, most likely it'll be 25m x 25m with 200 prims each. That should make for a good build I think.

Hopefully I'll be able to allow landscaping of plus-minus 2 or 3 m, with water at -1m.

:)

This event was approved to receive funding from the *City Stages funding stream at the last FFRC meeting. City Stages grants are L$3000 as opposed to the regular FFRC grants which are $2000. Thanks for your application, and I look forward to this event!

*City Stages is a first-life non-profit org in Birmingham, Alabama, that puts on a world-class music festival every year. This year, their advertising slogan is 'it's worth the trip.'

Will we be able to use Linden plants?

(Will the land not allow it or is that against the rules of the show or both?)

This is great news, big thanks to the FFRC and City Stages! I didn't see this post, it didn't appear in my new posts  This money will be put toward the prize money for the public vote.

:)

There are 32 x 1024m plots, with the option of adding a few more if I need to.
This means each participant gets 230 prims each.

I'd dearly love to be able to let people plant Linden plants it just doesn't seem feasible atm. If I can work out how to let it happen I will.

You will be able to terraform though, water level is 1m below ground. Terraform is limited to roughly +- 3m.

I'll be releasing more details about when how where etc in the next couple of days :)

If there are still any plots available, I would like to take part.

It should be possible to allow people to plant Linden plants if they are all joined to the group that the land is deeded to...atm that can still be done safely, not sure what the position will be once land on islands can be sold.

Oooh and we could have a poster in Nemesis too. :-)

I'm unfortunately out of the country until the end of the month and have very limited access to SL, so I can't build. :( I'm interested in donating prizes and perhaps being a judge if you need still one.

I know offline IMs are very unreliable atm so I'm posting here the message and notecard I sent everyone who've posted to this thread so far....

Svarga is now open for garden builders to come claim a plot, there are a few plots left still and it's first come first served ...

1st Second Life Annual Garden Show Information.
March 22nd - April 2nd 2005
Location : Svarga

*** Access ***

Public Access to Svarga will be from Mar 27th , please come visit, enjoy the fantastic builds and vote for your favourite garden.

Builders may come to Svarga from now until the end of the show. To enter the show as a builder contestant please read the rules below....

*** Background and description ***

Based on a traditional UK annual event called a "Garden Show". Landscape Artists and gardeners amateur and professional compete to build themed gardens in small areas usually no larger than 1/4 acre. The showground consists of very large fields normally in some historic setting. The show remains open to the public for a while and the gardens are judged at the end of the show with a ceremony usually shown on TV .

Svarga Events bring this event into SL by providing an entire sim and setting it aside for a couple of weeks for people to build themed gardens on small plots. With a judging contest and prize giving at the end.

For complete details for the event please see this forum thread
/244/d0/91947/1.html
included in the post are links to photos of the amazing RL gardens people create.

At the end of public viewing week there will be 2 prize giving categories
- Judged Prize Giving by a panel of residents/lindens
points for representation of theme, and points for building will be added and the ones with the most win!

- And a public vote. During the show scripted vote counters will collect public votes.

*** Claiming a parcel to build on ***

To claim a plot, search for the group "Svarga Events", join the group and teleport to Svarga. When you get to Svarga turn on View/Property Lines. You will see the land is split into several 1024m parcels, you may claim any empty 1024m parcel. If no plots are available I can make space for a few more, IM Laukosargas Svarog. If you want to claim a plot and come back later to build, simply leave a single prim in the centre of the plot with your name on it. You may come to Svarga at anytime during the event to work on your build. Don't forget to landmark your plot to make it easier to find when you come back. A vote counter will be placed on your plot before the public viewing week. The counter will be inactive until the start of the viewing week.

*** Just a few simple rules for builders ***

- Make sure you wear the "Svarga Events" group while you are building in Svarga. All your prims must be set to the group.
non-group prims WILL be returned !

- Choose a theme, half of the judging points go toward theme representation.

- You may use up to 230 prims: Using more than 230 will mean disqualification.

- Terraforming is allowed to +- 4m

- You are allowed to plant Linden plants and grasses.

- If you landscape, keep the edges of the plot flush with the paths. ( as close as possible )

- Do not overlap the borders of the plot with your build.

- Keep all noises to an ambient level.

- Svarga is a PG sim, keep your theme and build within the PG guidelines.

*** Sponsors ***

I'd like to give a huge thank you to everyone who've generously donated toward the prizes and prize money ....
