Based on a traditional UK annual event called a "Garden Show". Landscape Artists and gardeners amateur and professional compete to build themed gardens in small areas usually no larger than 1/4 acre. The showground consists of very large fields normally in some historic setting. The show remains open to the public for a while and the gardens are judged at the end of the show with a ceremony usually shown on TV . Svarga Events bring this event into SL by providing an entire sim and setting it aside for a couple of weeks for people to build themed gardens on small plots. With a judging contest and prize giving at the end. Currently we're running at L$3000 each for the top prizes! At the end of public viewing week there will be 2 prize giving categories - Judged Prize Giving by a panel of residents/lindens - And a public vote. During the show scripted vote counters will collect public votes. For inspiration check out these links and look at the photos of the amazing little "gardens" that people create for the RL shows... Show Gardens Small Gardens Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2005 I'm hoping we can end up with an entire sim full of small natural builds something like you saw in the links above. I also would like to hear from anyone who'd like to donate prizes or sponsorship to the show. If you have space for a 1 prim in-world promotional poster on your land please contact me too. So ... You choose your own theme for your garden and... There will be 2 prize categories: 1. Judged Event : Criteria: - Portrayal of chosen theme. - Texture and Prim skill. 2. Public Vote. A special cash prize for the garden with the most votes from visitors to the event. Each plot is 1024m, 230 prims, terraform and linden planting available by request. Sorry to post in your thread for something that's not quite related, but for some reason the forum won't let me send you a personal message. I have a forum set up for just this sort of thing, feel free to use it Details here: /invalid_link.html Carry on

What a terrific idea! Count me in! I would like to reserve a "Fun plot". I would like to offer my time as well. If you need a hand, hit me up.

Do you know if it is going to be possible to terraform the land in these gardens or would we be restricted to flat or the existing terrain? Also any idea if the land will be low enough to use Linden water?

If you would like to apply for some FFRC* funding for prize money, I would be happy to drop an application on you. It's just a short note with a few easily answered questions of the who, what, where variety. Your appplication could be discussed at the next meeting (Sun, 1pm SL time), which you would not have to attend unless you felt like adding anything beyond the application questions. You can slog through the FFRC thread here for more information: /110/ab/58103/1.htmlOr alternatively, contact me or Persephone Phoenix and we would be happy to talk. Either way, sounds like a fun event and I wish you luck. I would love to put out a few pormotional posters inworld as well. *Foundation for Rich Content - open membership, non-for-profit group that uses resident donations to fund events, as well as aid in promotion, locations, etc.

From: Morgana Aubret Do you know if it is going to be possible to terraform the land in these gardens or would we be restricted to flat or the existing terrain? Also any idea if the land will be low enough to use Linden water? Good questions, I'm not sure at this time, it really depends on the number of participants. If possible I will arrange the plots to be far enough apart to allow landscaping and I'll set the water level to an appropriate height to be usable in the builds.

Oh I would definitely be interested, if not to participate, to judge or whatever. I can donate a fountain or two for prizes as well as some $L. Just let me know when you would need it

Sign me up for the "Fun" category and feel free to send me a promotional sign. I don't understand the third judging category ("public vote" . Is every entrant automatically in that category as well?

Laukosargas, first of all.. i was tempted to move this to Notices, but i think i'll post it for ResMod discussion to get a more well-rounded opinion first.. i tend to think it makes sense right here, but who knows.. official Linden ruling may differ from my thoughts. but i digress.. re: 1 prim poster - throw one on me in-world and it'll go up on my land in Miramare. granted i don't get many people coming through my property, but.. it's something. also, i might be interested in participating in the Fun category. (i promise not to use my 100~ prim alien tree thing. hehe) this sounds like a wonderful idea and can only hope (if all goes well) that it garners some RL coverage as well!

This is a great idea! I have two spots in well-frequented sims where I could host a poster, and I'd love to sponsor the event with prize donations!

I'd love to participate in the "fun" category as well and I too promise to not whip out my heavy prim plant armory. What a wonderful idea. Edited to say that I'd be happy to donate prizes and gifts as well.

Thanks for the info. I'm a little hesitant to commit to this without knowing the dates yet, but I am interested. I'm not sure which category. I'm certainly no expert, but I like the idea of the challenge of using prims efficiently. If the timing won't work for me, I could perhaps be a judge. Please send me a poster and I also would be willing to donate prizes.

I'll take a fun parcel, hang posters in Taber and Slate, and volunteer to judge.
Also, Fate Gardens will donate a couple of tree packs to the prize pool.

Thanks everyone, this is a great response, you'll all be hearing from me in due course. Timing is all down to when LL deliver the island and how long it takes me to sort out the finer details. It was only ordered yesterday so could be a week or two I guess.

I don't think I'll have the time to participate but I'll certainly display a poster or two.

I'd like to participate in the Fun category.
Maybe it escaped me, but are the participants supposed to provide their own plants or should everyone use a predefined collection? Same for decorative elements like rocks etc.

Bumpety bump! LL just informed me it'll be two weeks before I get possession. Add a week to make the showground ready, so a nice amount of time to set it all up

Hi Laukosargas You might want to post a thread in the "Special Attractions" forum, and link to this thread. You'll probably get more eyeballs in that forum, and direct them here for when they want to respond to you

I think I'll drop the "Expert" category, everyone is so modest and no-one's opted for it yet If you disagree please say so !
