As a Mentor.

As most of you know, teaching and helping people are two of my greatest pleasures in SL. Tonight, I got an email from LL...I've been accepted into the Mentor program! It's a big SL day for me.

Oh, the Question: Will somebody offer congratulations?

YAY welcome to no peace at all :) Congrats Lindal ... remember that the cake is a lie x

Congratulations! So I can IM you now with any questions I have?:)

Nope. Brenda's got the "any questions" department. But I can tell you how to get a box off your head!

Are there special award for a Mentor title?
What is a mentor?
I have only read they exist and some use it as way to take advantage of newbies.
There some really great helpful people in SL who don't have titles.

This post makes me very very sad.

On the whole, all the mentors I've met have been great. Only one or two exceptions with delusions of grandeur.

Most of the mentors I know were really great helpful people without titles before and after they became a mentor.

Welcome~!!! I was just accepted last week too! I had submitted my request this summer and nearly forgot all about it. I'm loving it so far.....I have always helped folks in world and having an actual direction to go with it is great. Buzz me in-world and say hello....maybe when can hit some newbie hang outs together some time!! *grins*

Being a Mentor lets you teleport to the non-public OIs and HIs to help the people who really are just getting started in SL.

It also keeps you "in the loop" with regard to what the Lindens are doing for new users.

There might be a few Mentors who exploit the title, but they're in the minority.

FD...

1. Except for access to the newcomers' Orientation and Help Islands, and a special "Mentors only" island, no. No special rewards or perks...except the warm feeling that comes when somebody says, "Thank you."

2. A mentor is someone who helps newcomers with their problems and questions. You can volunteer for this, and other, "official LL volunteer" positions on this website.

3. Sadly, a few do. Most mentors, though, are friendly and helpful.

4. Yes. You don't need a title to help out. I've been volunteering my time and helping newbies for months. The new group tag won't change that, it just makes it "official".

Congrats :) Anyone willing to give up SL time to help others deserves a round of applause.
Most of us struggle to help the occasional newb...but to do it over and over?? answer the same questions? Thats a special person.
