As a mentor I come across grieffers that have used the "report abuse" button to report me for either banning them or talking to them, etc. How do we protect our names and mentor tag when we are unjustly accussed this way? Has happened to me a few times now and the people that get our abuse reports dont know that we are mentors from anyone else.

Ya gotta love bureaucracy.

As in the left hand knoweth not what the right hand doeth...

Whoever the LL contact person is for your mentor program sounds like the person to start with in getting LL's act together on this. This is dumb.

Also, maybe mentors should work in teams, so they can back each other up when faced with false ARs.

And finally, do you really need a mentor tag? You can mentor newbies free-lance, after all.

Oh, and you are ARing the griefers, aren't you?

a mentor is just a resident who has volunteered to help new slers
if u are annoying and harrassing fellow residents
and bothing a LOT of them and they ar u
u will be punished by LL whether u view urself as the "good guys" or not. best to mute them and leave people alone instead of prancing around as sl cops and Har u moron what you are sugessting can convibly be called a raid and get you ared. LL gave u no mandat to police the grid

I am not talking "about policing the grid" I am talking bout grieffers who come back and make u pay for letting them know in one way or the other that what they are doing is wrong, etc. As a former Manager of a large clothing store in SL that has happened to me with avators that come to make trouble in the store. We did not converse with them, simply sim banned and muted. Some seek revenge wth AR's. It has happened to me as a mentor too. My questions was simply what to do if this happens. Could be a round robin effect to appeal it.

Hhmm. My suggestion of working in teams who can back each other up seems to make ol' Jumpy nervous. Must be an even better idea than I thought ; )

Kitten, save your chat and IM logs to your hard drive. If someone ARs you and you get a suspension, file a counter AR and append your logs. State that you are a Mentor in your report.

Be aware that your actions must be above reproach. If you are other than polite to the griefers, your case may not hold up.

The solution is simple. Forget about it. Say your piece. Abuse report true violations of the TOS. Get on with business. Log all chat.

That's it.

What characters like Jumpman forget is that it's exactly that, character, that the Lindens pay attention to. If there are twits who abuse report for revenge out there, they quickly get known and their reports are filtered out.

From observation, folks that AR very rarely and for egregious TOS violations get results as fast as the Lindens do in getting abusers pounded by the banhammer.

All it will take is you giving them your public chat (which is *not* a violation of the TOS, by the way) and the frivolous reporters will get onto the "Cry Wolf" list. Or worse.

Eject? Why not?
08-10-2008 11:29
How many times have you been on an OI or an HI with a bunch of newbies and an alt turns up and start being an ass; pushing people, swearing etc.
Yes, I know that we can raise AR (fat lot of good they do anyway) but it would be nice to have something that would sort the problem out immediately.

So, seeing as Mentors are generally nice people who want to help and not police, wouldnt it be wise to allow them to Eject or at least Rezz at these places so that we could deal with someone who may chase a dozen newbies away for good?

Cheers,
Hunter...

Just remember to be polite to griefers, this is all you have to do. Sarcastic and rude comments are not acceptable. Do not take issues to local chat, IM anyone you have a problem with.

Picture yourself as a professional and remain so at all times.

And always have chat logs turned on, you can reference these in appeals.

This is a good thought in theory. But there are a few Mentors (or in ANY large group) who are not generally nice people, and/or DO want to police. I'm a Mentor. At one time I thought it would be wonderful to have eject/ban privileges on OI or HI (or even, like the Linden Gods, universal). Now I have a better idea of my limitations, and don't want that responsibility.

Our role is to help and to teach. If a griefer shows up, I shift my subject matter to "How to Deal With Griefers".

Also, I don't think you *can* eject/ban from HI/OI. Where would they go? A WA? (great places to send griefers ;) ) And, since they can't come back anyway, a ban would be redundant.

Yep, the only place to send them would be back out of SL entirely. Or maybe plant their avs in the cornfield for a couple of hours. That'll larn 'em!
