Waiting time for mentor application approval

I know that the application to become a mentor it says it can take 4-6 weeks, but I also know that LL never seems to respond to things in the time frame they give. My question is how long does it normally take?

Application approval

Who knows Nessa. I was waiting for my application to be processed for over three months. I gave up in the end and withdrew it.

With the little change in the Staff count on between 3 to 6 month. Yes its long i know :)

This is not a "simple" group, LL must acknowledge one by one each request this include, what you did, your interest, your motivation, etc...

Good luck :)

I think they recently put more staff on the job to get it done, I just got mine processed the other day after about 6 months but hopefully they're trying to reduce the queue.

heh. i've withdrawn my application more times than i can remember. if i hadn't done that, i'd be a mentor now. i even mentioned it to Torley a few months ago and he told me that Blue Linden was head of volunteers, and they were testing a new application system which should speed up the approval process. when he said "You must be very anxious, I hope you find out soon," i thought he was teasing and hinting that he'd put a word in the right direction, but three months later..well..i guess I interpreted his words wrongly. lol.

Thanks for the replies I had a feeling it was in the couple months time range. Well I guess it's back to helping newbies on my land until they get around to my application.

Help is always required at Welcome Areas, Infohubs and the Public Orientation & Help Islands if you ever fancy a bit of unpaid conveyor belt work. No Mentor tag required. ;)

I applied in December '07. My application is still 'under consideration'.

Major armed conflicts haven't had this much consideration given to them. Maybe I'm more dangerous than I realised.

Your application isn't under consideration at all, but if Linden Lab can borrow your time machine that might change. :p

Ooops! That's what happens when you sneak onto the SL forums whilst under the pretence of 'doing some computer stuff' at work and the boss is hovering around..!

I figured with the Dec. 2007, you were getting a jump on the time frame. So when December came around, you'd have an answer ;)

I just turned my application in the other day and was told by a friend theirs took several months, in fact the day they were going to withdraw their application, they got notification they were accepted. Good choice, turned out to be a great mentor!

I understand the wait time, but I think sadly some potentially good candidates that really want to help may get discouraged. Hopefully a new application system can help speed that up.

The most recent person I know who has become a mentor took nine months to get approved.

Seriously, I wonder what the hold up is.

That’s odd because I’m sure I’ve see Mentors with newer birth dates then mine, and I started in January, 07
I applied around mid June. No hurry. I’m at help Island and Orientation Island anyway. Maybe should have used one of my nicer alts. :D

Well, I decided to call LL on their new support system as that got introduced and question why it had already taken 4-5 months with still no response. After a month, I was told:

***

Thank you for applying, and we apologize that it takes us so long to get back to you.

The reason for that is that we did not have access to the proper tools to work through the applications during the change in the support portal. We will be working through the backlog soon, anyway, so please bear with us.

***

I don't know what any of that means. Guess I'll just sit here patiently.

Just, you dont have to be a "titled" volunteer for helping :)
Helping is always wanted at help island

Second what Riona says, although of course you can't access the preliminary help islands unless you're in the mentor group.

As for what you've been told Chaffro, that's basically what they've been saying since last Autumn. Or "Fall" as you yanks say. :p

I asked a mentor at the Public Orientation Island if the wait was still as long as six months, as I've read here.

He said, "Ha! It took them a YEAR to approve me!"

LL, what the heck???? You have people here who WANT to help. It should take no longer than 48 HOURS to approve an application...certainly no longer than two weeks, at the very outside.

Six months to a year is an eternity in game time. Take that long, and 90% of your applicants will have long since moved on to something else, either in SL or in some other pursuit.

You're letting a priceless asset (literally priceless...volunteers cost you NOTHING!) slip through your fingers here.

I know people who got approved at the end of last year despite only joining SL approx. six months earlier. I know somebody else who bumped into Pathfinder Linden and said "hey, I've been waiting to become a mentor for three months, what of it?" and Pathfinder did a little check and made him a mentor on the spot. Worth trying if you bump into that particular Linden I guess. ;)

Well, I met a Mentor by chance just a couple of hours ago. Looked at his Profile...born in January, the same time I was APPLYING for the scheme. So that would mean he had a 4-5 month wait at most, and would have had to apply after the so-called imporved Support System was introduced.

I remained calm though. Until I overheard him telling someone else "Oh yeah, apply for it! We're always desperate for more Mentors!"

I think I'm going to go look for a Linden! Wish me luck I heard they are impossible to find. I will probably just go hang out at Help Island and other places, I love helping people especially since I had no help when I joined. I didn't even know they had people doing this until the day of my post here.

Good luck, but bear in mind what I said about Torley on page one of this thread. I guess it depends on the Linden. ;)

It's easy to get hold of a Linden if you're armed with their inworld office hours. Here ya go:
