An idea about fight.
A Harkonnen fort in the desert, with a flag. If the enemy touch the flag it changes to another owner. Of course, Harkonnens can get back the outpost as well...

Sietch Tabr And Harkonnen Keep
12-19-2006 15:01
Barry Crowley is making a fiercesome job of transforming Sietch Tabr. The main hall is the most awesome sight - possibly the biggest indoor space I've seen in SL (but I'm a newbie). The water storage hall is also incredible - with it's drownable baby worm.

I've made a start on the House Harkonnen Keep - I'm recruiting for H Hark - so get in touch with me if you want to join. H Hark will be the fun faction - lies, deceipt, torture etc.

If you are interested in joining any of these sub-groups contact:

-LemonYellow Oxide - for joining any of the sub-groups
-Barry Crowley - for the Fremen
-Atilla McKinney - for the Harkonnens
-Ronald Voss - for the Atreides
-Canis Constellation - for the Bene Gesserit
-The Spacing Guild - leadership reserved
-House Corrino - leadership open (contact LemonYellow Oxide)

Role play should begin early in the new year.

Sim Launch Delay
02-10-2007 13:29
The Sim will now be 'officially launched' on the 24th of Feb 2007. There will be launch day events and freebies - as mentioned above.

You can still visit the sim at the moment - it's just that role play won't begin until then.

There will be a few changes after launch day:

- Everyone will be either 'in character' for the role play or will have to wear an observer tag (provided).

- Entry to the sim will be via a telehub

- Entry to the sim will require you to EITHER join 'the dune project' group (free at the moment but will cost L$100 from the 24th) OR buy a day pass for L$25.

- There will be the usual list of tedious rules to obey to keep the sim a joyful experience ;)

- The sim will be a no-fly zone

If you have any comments about any of this please post here (good or bad)

Collective noun for group of Fremen?
02-21-2007 05:21
On the launch day I am planning to get together a group of av's dressed as Fremen to run around other sci-fi sims causing general trouble and looking cool.

If you want to come along I'll be sending out a group notice with the time, nearer to the launch event (join 'the dune project' group to get it). I'll also try to remember to post the time here too.

STILLSUITS WILL BE PROVIDED FOR FREE!

Launch Day Freebies
02-24-2007 03:29
Today is launch day!

I should be in the sim almost all day until 1AM Sun (GMT).

TO GET A FREEBIE - approach me and say:

"Harkonnen's rule"

OR

"Harkonnen scum"

Then I'll give you a freebie, e.g. hark stillsuit, fremen stillsuit, hark rabban pistol, weirding module. I may give you more than one freebie if 'I like the cut of your jib'.

Actually, your more likely to be kicked out of the sim for offering to help, then you are to find anything worth doing in this sim. beware of the snotty, self-absorbed and vry rude admins of this island.
i was thrown out of the group and the sim for offering to help with the days activities, and handing out free gear to people who had none. it seems unless youve decided to shell out several thousnd linden for the owners offical gear, your not welcome in the sim.

its a shame such a great sim concept ended up so badly planned, and run into the ground before it could even get going.

Gross distortions and lies.
02-26-2007 20:41
Sorry you feel that way, mordred. I was actually present, and while I lack the background on your (and Lemon Yellow's) conflict, I CAN say that it is perfectly possible to come and visit the sim, even participate, without ANY investment of Lindens.

It's a private sim, like any number of other private sims, and you crashed the party and were caught handing out non-approved mercendise. you got in trouble with the owner, and got spanked. The same wil happen in Gor, or SW universe, or any of a number of RP sims. take your lumps; apologize, and get back on the horse. You can play by the rules set forth, or whine. But nobody likes a whiner; or a false warning.

actually, i joined the party i was invited too, and started helping lemon hand out the blue eyes and noseplugs HE gave me. i handed out nothing that wasnt already given awya free by the people in the sim. the only non group thing i had on was my stillsuit, and i had planned on giving it to the group after that days activities, along with a number of other outfits and a windtrap, but i got thrown off the island before any ceremony could be drummed up.
from what i could tell, all i had done wrong was to actually show up and attempt to help. i saw no rules against helping hand out group freebies, and i saw no rules about discussing where we got our ideas from (the only other conversation going on at the time)
im not trying to whine or be a pest, but i dont think people should be treated that way for any reason, especially people who only came to help, and have fun. this is here to warn any other people foolish enough to try and help, when it obviously isnt wanted.
and really.. i dont see why i should apologize for trying to help out, and make things more fun for the group. i did nothing to break any rules that had been set out, and i wasnt hurting anyone, or profiting in any way. and besides, i dont care who you are, or what you do.. nobody should be treated with such disrespect and disregard. saying its rude is putting it mildly.

This could be a case of mistaken identity or maybe he thought you were doing something when you were in fact not. But this isn't the way to clear up the matter. Talk to him yourself and find out. There was a lot going on that day, especially that moment as he had not expected so many people to show up.

I don't think anyone has shelled out several thousand lindens for anything in the Dune sim. There isn't even that much merchandise for sale ... a lot of things are still being given out for free.

Mordred has not contributed to the creation of this sim in any way - I've only ever seen him on the sim once before.

Prior to this event, Mordred had set up an unauthorised vending machine in the marketplace, after the closure of the original market. He turns up on the launch day and starts handing out his freebies in a blatant sales pitch for his stillsuit. When I asked him to stop he gives me a load of grief (therefore I've banned him).

If you're unhappy with this Dune sim Mordred - why don't you create your own?

Thanks to all of you who turned up for that crazy event. I wasn't expecting such a crowd. My apologies go to any sim owners who experienced any problems.

BTW - the stillsuits I sell on the sim have always retailed at L$400 (when I'm not giving them out for free) - not 'thousands' as mentioned by Mordred in the above post.

Upon reading this thread, had to come check out the sim, and figured, why not just join it- always wanted to find a Dune RP environment. And just wanted to say that it's very well done, and the sandworm rising in the desert made my day, beautiful. Hoping to see more people about on my next visit- is there a popular prime time for activity?

Long live House Harkonnen!

I think I know what you are talking about...

Made by Rogan Eberlain and costs 1500 L$.

This is what Lemon made and sellin for ~700 L$.

And this is the cheap version. :D

Please note that although my stillsuits are on sale for L$699 on SLexchange - I do point out in the description that they can be purchased at a discount on the sim. This item is essentially an advert for the sim :)

Incidently - if you do buy stillsuits from outside the sim, don't expect them to work with the combat system we're developing. That includes Rogan's stillsuits which are definately NOT APPROVED, the cheeky monkey likes to use photos of the sim for his adverts, and again like Mordred he contributes nothing to it's upkeep. If you wear either Rogan's or Mordred's stillsuit on the sim I may ask you to take it off - depending on how bitter I feel about it at the time.

I'm open to other stillsuits being sold on the sim (so any creators out there, get in touch) but I'd like to make available outfits for the other factions as a priority. Hence the Bene Gesserit Clothing Competition running this week.

other then the stillsuits, the sadukar outfits i had made, the sisterhood abbas, the crysknife sets, and the windtrap i had finished the day in question. not to mention the minis of buildings and the pallace i had setup in the first week the sim was open. all of these i had tried to show and offer to you on many occasions, but never ONCE got any replies. the one time i did get to talk to you, you said you'd look at the minis and message me back. something you never did do.

When I asked him to stop he gives me a load of grief (therefore I've banned him).

an 'unauthorized' vendor you said i could setup, took my rental fees for, and left up for ober two months. if it was "unauthorized" you should have retuned the fees i payed for the two months it was up, and said something before you started rearranging things.

i showed up with everyone else on opening day upon getting an invite, and started helping you hand out YOUR stillsuits. not once did i hand out anything of my own, and only talked about my own suit if someone else asked. i also mentioned to a few people who had asked that i was giving the suit to the group after the openeing day meeting. all i had "advertised" was the sim itself.
by 'asking me to stop" you mean you immedatly got defensive that i was handing out your stuff and started insulting me. when i asked what your problem was you banned me. sounds fair.

i didnt say i was unhappy with the sim. most of the community seems nice enough. ive already had contact with serveral whom like the work i had made for the group originally.
and besides, ive done something diffrent with my own sim, and im not ready to change, thanks.

i was unhappy with the way you treat people, whom only came to help, and relax. why youve turned this into something personal is beyond me, but proves how little actual respect you have for the people in the community.

Mordred - get your own sim - get your own forum to post your alternative universe views on - you're obviously unhappy with the dune project - quit griefing.

Griefer

I have to say that I've been involved with The Dune Project since it's inception. I've never seen Mordred on the sim in all that time (and I spend a lot of time there as a Reverend Mother).

Lemon and people like Barry, Mal, Ellen, Tunes, Ronald (and many others) have spent so much time and effort producing this sim, it saddens me to see your disrespect and avarice.

Mordred, you should do as Lemon requests and stop posting here, because the only thing it does is make you look small. This forum is for The Dune Project not for griefers.

And readers... the unavailability of Mordred's creations is no great loss to the sim (believe me).

As an uninvolved person (who saw the first part of this thread and bought a group membership and "official" stillsuit) this petty bickering isn't making the sim owner or members look much better.

Thowing in the jab at the end of the quote pretty much lowered the poster to the level of the outcast.

The overall impression I get is that Dune Project is off to a nice start but will collapse under the rule of those who can't come to amicable resolution of trivial disputes. 'tis true 'tis pity; and pity 'tis 'tis true
