I have many favorites, but like I like to say: my favorite games are the ones I've not played yet!
Primtionary as hosted by Jamie Otis is a great favorite of mine. Haven't played in ages but it was the rapid social banter that made me laugh so much while trying to build, and gosh, to this day, I am STILL not a builder! *laughs as prims run away in agony* The first game I ever played, if it can be counted, would be Jeopardy! as hosted by Pituca Chang. A special memory, and I played it about 15 min. upon coming into SL. Ahhh. One week I totally sucked and got only one question and I felt buuurned by all the geography (Torley Sr.'s weak suit, ironic since HIS DAUGHTER IS A FREAKIN' EXPLORER!), but ah, it was funny. So many thanks to Pitu + Garth for the lovely times on FairChang. Now, a big favorite of mine has to be Tringo. I've had several chats with creator Kermitt Quirk about it, and in particular, one of my faves was the stereotype-busting round after rounds I played with Bel Muse and several other certified SL oldbies. One of the most notable things I recall Bel saying between rounds was encouraging me to play on even if I screwed myself out of the win due to an early bad move, because "It's fun to put the shapes together". Tringo wouldn't be the same without all the social discourse either. I am an undisputed master of several 2-player games. Not chess though, I suck at that. ![]() There are several delights I have played in passing, including the time I fell into Island Sandbox and found myself surrounded by UFOs. Turns out TwoPercent Milk had a new Space Invaders-type game in 3D, and I also came across a variant of Arkanoid/Breakout at one point. Not too long ago, I played my first game of SL-ingo, as created by Dominus Skye. I was very puzzled, even after reading the instructions, but it's the type of game you learn by playing. It was played on the remote corner of a new private sim that had just been set up, and there was a really mellow, relaxed attitude about it despite my gnashing of teeth whenever I got a devil (which was, many times). There are more. All of these games are great to me not only because of the gameplay, but because of the people who I remember playing them with, including the hosts, and in some cases, the creators. ![]() VERY MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO GAMEDEV... I know my enthusiasm barging onto your boards has caused grief for some... I am sorry, I can't contain myself from being excited about what you're making! ![]() ![]() ![]() _____________________

The pot-healers adventure game on the island of Numbakulla.
The layout of the builds makes a forking path, not a plain linear path from one stage of the quest to another. You are free to wander across the terrain from one visually distinct area to the next, and collect crucial objects. It's well worth experiencing in an open-ended frame of mind. I discovered hard-to-reach areas, and checked prims to see who built the various things. And I got a free turtle. : ) |

AL&L (Advanced Lawyers and Libraries: Third Edition) by Magicians of the Bay.
Well, seriously... Even though I've yet to actually participate, it would have to be Trimming Hedges' "Captions!" games. ![]() _____________________

Tringo! Uh, hides my face.
Well, Prim Attack! Uh, hides my face a little less Oh no! I've played some other fun ones but not regularly. The ones that come to mind are Bowling, Miniature Golf. These were on a Game Dev island and then moved to a private island. Trying to remember which one...Miniature Golf sounds good right now. [edited to add - Spittoonie Island] The Game dev game where you saved pets' souls was fun mainly because it was so darn weird. The US 66 thing where you bulldozed a small city was cool along with the auto bashups next door on the upper level. Going back to when I started, the game this image was from had a huge influence on me. And not just because of the game either. |

Acro-Phobia
05-06-2005 09:59
I like Paladin's Acro-Phobia game. It's fun to make up silly acronyms. The only game I've tried that I'm halfway good at. hehe
oh yeah. and the CT Truth or Dare game (it's automated for round-robin play with the dares and truths all ready to be selected at the push of a button). I know, sounds like an ad, but I made the game coz I like playing that way so that everyone gets a turn. ![]() |

SimCast for me, followed by Dark Life.....now if only someone could do a Call of Cthulhu version of these I'd be very happy
![]() EDIT: I just visited the new Chicago sim yesterday....that would be a perfect place for a Call of Cthulhu type game....now if I could just get with the sim holders, maybe some other like-minded individuals..... ![]() |

Pot Healers: Numbakulla
05-07-2005 12:11
Pot healers in Numbakulla - compelling. From the outset, you are drawn into its beautiful scenery, exquisite builds, meandering riddles and mystical atmosphere. Bewildering at times? Oh yes. But that's all part of the fun and intrigue, isn't it?

The Shelter has an entertaining and fun take-off on 'Who Wants to Be A Millionaire' called 'Payment Podium' on Sun/Tue/Thur that I like quite a bit.
I recently tried Tringo and I must say, evil as its reputation is, it wasn't that bad. That's about the limit of my gaming exposure in SL.... I'd like to change that, but I don't hear about many games in-world. _____________________

Primtionary - I think this is the most SL game in all SL. I play when I can, and host at least once a week.
Captions - Trimming Hedges has combined simple automation, some WTF pictures and the wit of everyone present to make for what is about the most amusing hour of my week. Settlers of Second Life - very entertaining, even if games do take 3 hours and Fallingwater always wins. Jeopardy/Trivia/Quizzes - because I'm more likely to win at these than tringo! Build contests - I've done 20 minute speed-building contests up to week long challenges. A good building contest really gets me engaged and thinking, and I'm often surpised at what gets built. Now I host them more than enter them, but that's still fun too. Dunk a Linden - I'm really looking forward to this! ![]() _____________________

Settlers of Second Life - very entertaining, even if games do take 3 hours and Fallingwater always wins. Whoa. I was sure this was a joke when Easy posted the pic. You mean someone has really implemented Settlers in SL??? I've got some friends who need to get themselves SL accounts, ASAP. ![]() Regarding Call of Chthulhu, I know a good CoC GM. I'll have to try to talk him into logging in. neko _____________________

Aeranyth, you're right about the pot healers adventure game.

Games people play
05-13-2005 21:41
Dark Life, Tringo (yea yea), Tag, MahJong, Pot Healers: Numbakulla, payment podium, primtionary.
Some other games that require explination. "Dress the Newbie": Go newbie spotting and pelt them with free clothes. "Blue's Game": See how far you can run without having to fly. "Skybox Dodge 'em": Basically flying in any craft at 500m evading solid objects. "Sit on it": trying to get higher and higher without flying by sitting on sequentially higher and higher objects. |

You can pick up a copy of the game tutorial at Miramare (140, 78), and the game itself is also on sale there. We have a group, "Settlers of Second Life Players" that is for finding players for a game. Enjoy :) |
