I have read the thread, no where does it state that people can leave the house or IM.

If they're allowed to go where they want, why would they spend any time in the house? One of the main parts of the RL big brother is that they can't escape each other, there isn't much to do, and they have to live on a small budget for food etc. None of this can happen in SL.

That's the UK version. The point is that you plot and plan in this one, in that one the public votes..

Jonas-I believe he means it's original because no one has done in in SL.

Maybe have a total logged on time of 50 days, like those chairs where you sit and scratch your... er I mean, play slots <.<
And during that time you must participate in activities and the one who does least of all this is booted until the most fun person remains...

I realize I skipped a page or 2 of posts, mentioned already? Oh well :)

Lol that'd be a interesting game ;) Actually, Survivor, The Amazing Race, and The Bachelor were tossed up before we decided on BB

Eh, the idea behind BB wasn't original when BB did it either.

I'd rather have it be more like survivor, where there are contests and the winner gets some small prize or immunity from being kicked or something.

For example: you could have the host rez some complex object and give everybody 10 minutes to try to copy it using only the basic build tools (no scripts). The best copy (judged by the host) is the winner.

HoH is basically immunity with more power! If you wanna make survivor, go ahead, I wouldn't mind! If you want something changed, then suggest so! Don't come at me saying "Well if I ran the world.." RUN THE WORLD! I might do a survivor later, but it was more complex for a first project.

I think it's a fine example of copyright infringement.

Would you like me to take it off? The theme actually has no copyright, I checked, if it did, I'd get rights.

Did I do something to offend?

Does my breath smell maloderous?

Oh and CBS actually supports ORG's, many of times which use their themes.

LOL... no, it's nothing personal. I was just making a wisecrack. But you're incorrect when you say that the theme has no copyrights.

U.S. copyright law, at least, says that any created work is copyrighted by its creator from the moment of its creation. Now, if I want to be able to enforce my copyright in court, in the event of a violation, I had better register that copyright with the copyright office. However, in the case of the theme from a popular TV show, I am absolutely certain that its composer has it registered. He'd be a fool not to. It probably was done as a "work for hire" and is therefore probably owned by CBS television.

As far as removing it, I don't care. It's not my piece of music. I'm just sayin'...

Ok guys, with the game starting on Saturday, merchandising begins!

You can get a key, just like worn on the show! In this picture is shown a key, marked "Sly", worn by the host.

Get your name or nickname written on it, for only 750 L!

This is a part of the wonderful custom jewlery made by Xcessories, check out their line of necklaces, customizible with YOUR name on it, or their wedding rings.

If you buy a custom necklace, please mention Brad Pow.

Thank you!

That's Xessories (lil spelling error there Brad ;) )

I was happy to supply the houseguest keys and the Power of Veto for the show, as a BB watcher myself.

Help support this endevour in SL, some of the proceeds of the purchases of personalized keys goes back into the costs of making this happen.

Contact me (Dnel DaSilva) or look up Xessories in the find or classifieds to check out my stores :)

No, not at all. Just malodorous. :)

(Sorry, the Evil Technical Editor in me came out...! Not that there's such a thing as a Good Technical Editor but, well, oh bother, you get the idea...)

The copyright issues mentioned are valid, just be careful.

I will be interested in seeing if this plays out well for you. I did read the entire thread but am still a bit puzzled at how workable this is.

Second Life reality is not under the same confinements of Real Life reality, so I can't imagine shows like Big Brother translating well without MANY modifications to the format ... so much that it would almost be unrecognizable.

Like someone else mentioned, the show is based on the friction created by putting dissimilar people into the same cramped living environment for prolonged periods of time, with no possibility of escape. Your concept doesn't create a real "pressure cooker" -- in fact, you are expressedly not even bothering -- so I'm still trying to understand what the concept is supposed to be.

As a counter-example, a Survivor-type show translates better because it's based on competition (which is easily replicated in SL).

Or something like the "Joe Schmoe Show" because the whole show was built on pretense, and SL is perfect for that -- anyone can say they're anything, even when they are not.

Or the Bachelor, because the show was about dating and romance -- which you can replicate in SL.

The Big Brother concept, though? I don't know. Please let us know how it works out, I'm very curious to see what works for you and what doesn't...

The Big Brother concept is competiton, most people think it's the house, but it's not.

No, that's not true. The title of the show stems from George Orwell's "1984," and the concept that "Big Brother is watching you."

Being in the house, under constant scrutiny, with few chances to get away and find privacy, even to discuss strategy -- THAT is the core of "Big Brother." If you take that away and leave only the competition, what remains is a game show like any other (the old Nickelodeon kid's game show "Double Dare" comes to mind).

Your argument doesn't hold water.

I've been in ORG's for 5 years, and I DO know about 1984. However if you ask Alison who is the producer of the show, she will tell you it really boils down to the competiton. It transitions WELL into ORG's I've done with only AIM and message boards, so I don't get why it wouldn't work here!
