Anyone have some decent hosting for our pal Athena?

possibly. Is this something the SL community needs? I looked around and didn't see a website devoted solely to roleplay in SL. Would this site be open to people advertising their sim/game/whatever? I would assume both for PnP style games and the more live action style?

Such would be my guess. I personally would design it as openly as possible so people could add their games as they chose. In many ways the easiest way to do something like that would be to create an outside forum specifically devoted to that end. This would allow more interaction. Having an attached site with forms for both interested GMs and players and updated info on the state of RPGs in SL would round it out nicely. If your going to do something like this you might as well make it open to everyone.

I'm not really a web designer, but I do have a VPS (virtual private server) with plenty of space/bandwidth. If there is enough interest, and supposing you or someone wants to do some designs and help administrate the site, I will volunteer to host the site and help administrate it where I can.

I'm fairly new to RP in SL (I used to have an account some time ago and just came back), but I can't imagine a better way to learn more and get into that aspect of the community. I think these are great ideas.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I know I'd sign up on such a site in a heartbeat. For now I'd like to play (nearly anything), but at some point I'll probably want to host/GM PnP Warhammer Fantasy or In Nomine.

Being able to look up games and players and see what they are offering or looking for would sure cut through the trial and error/compatibility problem of putting a campaign together.

Join the Roleplayer's Association group -- they have weekly meetings on Sunday afternoons to share info and recruit players. You can probably IM Allen Karensky in-world for more info -- I think he is the host for the weekly meetings.

I'm aware of three ongoing D&D campaigns in SL: mine (currently on hiatus due to time zone differences among the players, but will start up again soon); Allen's; and Elanor Glass's. Mine uses avatar-scaled scenery; Allen's is a true tabletop game with minis and a grid; Elanor's is somewhere in-between. We all use chat-based dice rollers.

After playing weekly for six months and having a blast, I can say that SL is *the* place to do online tabletop RPGing. The major remaining challenges to playing traditional RPGs in SL are:

1. Finding reliable players and DMs in for the long haul, but, hey, just like real life, right?
2. Recording and sharing information. I use notecards for character sheets and game logs, it is somewhat crude but better than toggling in and out of SL every time you want to write something down.
3. Prim load for scenery and monsters, but this may improve with the advent of sculpties..
4. Having a place to play (related to #3).

I'm looking into the possibilities of obtaining a sim just for turn-based tabletop RPing, but haven't figured out an economic model to make it work. My dream is to have a sim that includes a classic fantasy town with a tavern, thieves guild, wizard academy, and so on, adjacent to a tabletop area that can rez dozens of different dungeons and landscapes.

i might have just the engine to do that for you.. SIB sim in a box. currently our first genre is called Urbenz mostly a modern type feel.. our next project that is in the works is SiB Castle .. and its just what the name implies.. a full ever changing landscape at the whim of a button, you can change the entire sim or parts of it..

for a look at our current mods come by SiB island at
