When I looked over to see who was nominated for the games, all I saw were four good ones (to me). Tech Warfare, Castle Wars,Danger Zone, and Darklife. All these other ones aren't even going to get close to beating these four guys (in my opinion). Seems like the only competition will be between these four, just like the only competition between computer platform makers is between Windows [:)] and the macs [:(]. Who do you think is the best, your favorite four?

There are 4 winners. And DarkLife can't win because they weren't ready on the launch day. (Rules said you must be ready on the 20th)

lol ok, i don'y really know, i am just saying my opinion... i could be wrong.. i could be correct :) SL's residents don't seem like the kind of group of people who would play games like boogie board or SLblox. From what I see [opinion] everone likes the stuff like castle wars and tech warfare. POOR DARKLIFE! Well if darklife is out that leaves room for one more to win.

SLictionary and Boggie
03-21-2006 08:41
Hmm.. personally I think Boogie and SLictionary will fight it out. I am usually good at predicting this sort of things. Boogie and SLictionary are the best types of games for SL. (Easy to understand, no physics and high on social interaction). Personally, I just tried to implement a physics intensive game in SL (LOL) and build a game around idiosyncrazies and seems to work, work around bugs, or turn bugs into features :)) and finally into a game. This is how BLOX was born. Try to make a sphere roll randomly on the ground (this was my starting point, LOL, try it... and experience SL Havoc physics). But all my twisty turvy hard work was rewarded on the first day. Ben Linden and Don Linden made some good constructive comments that boosted my morale. So am a happy man. Good luck Slictionary and Boggie. I will just give a good fight and try to push my personal envelope the next 2 months. And without Shika and Mrinal, this game will not have looked the way it does :)

BloxSL & Boogie

There are MANY Many types of "groups" who are SL residents. [There may be groups with a single lone member too :) ]
I don't know which group/s I fit in, but I love to play games like BloxSL & Boogie. Cool games!

Dark Life!
03-21-2006 09:24
My winners:

1] Dark Life
2] Dark Life
3] Dark Life

You can play the game at 'Navora' and see the 'new look' at that game contest.

To bad RL has shown his ugly face and thats why they couldnt finish it as soon as they wanted. Anyway Mark Busch and Crash Prefect did a great job (with the warriors and wizzards behind the scenes) and they got their priorities straight.

* killing monsters again..

Type and read you later!

The way I see it, the most impressive 2 are Castle Wars and Tech Warfare, then looking at SL history, Boogie and SLictionary have the ability to get pretty popular since they are big group games like *ingo. The other games Danger Zone is really awesome, i'm sure Sumo Blox is fun too but I haven't played it with 2 people yet. Darklife is awesome, but I think they are going to be dq'ed, and the collective just seems to be a vendor place.

The question really is who are the bigger gamers in Second Life, the group gamers or the war gamers? That's where these games lie, on either end, and it'll be interesting to see what happens.

My vote for most impressive goes to Tech Warfare. Easily the best one there. Dark Life (at least the original version) is nice but somewhat slow, I was looking forward to what changes were being made for the competition. I'm not sure you can count them as disqualified as they do have a working version (just, elsewhere in the grid, and the rules state the game can start and end at the Arcadia sim but go elsewhere in the grid if they wish). I've yet to see Castle Wars in play.

As for the others, they are unique in their own rights and I congratulate them on interesting game play, but most of them fall into genres that I'm just not a fan of.

Played some Boogie last night and it's a very solid game. I think it's going to be tough to beat since it's well tailored for SL. If I was laying odds, I would say it's the game to beat.

It's too bad that Dark Life didn't get done, what little that is there looked promising in terms of design.

Castle Wars looks fun, I will want to try that.

I love Tech Wars even though I didn't get a chance to play last night, if anything beats Boogie, I'd like it to be Tech Wars.

Thanks for the feedback on The Collective. =)

Based on the feedback we've gotten (people thinking it was basically just a shopping game), we've changed the layout in Arcadia quite a bit today - removing the extraneous shops completely! It now focuses on the actual core of the game, the Trading Card Game.

For those interested, I'm hosting an information session/duel session in about 50 minutes in Arcadia, where I'll also be introducing a couple of contests we'll be running with some great prize pots (including a L$2,500 prize for the winner of a tournament this weekend).

Despite being the developer of SLictionary in the Arcadia Game Expo, I really love Hox's Boogie and would not feel bad at all to be beat out by that game. Hox rocks! All of the games are great, I've had a chance to play most of them. Good luck everyone! For those of you who haven't been to the Expo, you are missing out on some of the best games in SL!

Visual instructions for BLOX
03-21-2006 18:39
Hello,
Looks like we all are on the same wavelength regarding what works in SL. Taking this opportunity to plug in this:
I have included visual (diagrammatic) instructions for the BLOX games :) This is for players who dont want to be introduced to a new game through text in a note.
Enjoy BLOX. We will be having tournament events soon with cash prizes. Get your partner and come along to practice. BLOX is the least expensive game to play in Arcadia :) $1L
Cheers

Darklife

Greetings everyone,

As much as I'd love to be able to say that game development takes priority in life, unfortunately life tends to bring complicated situations to the table. Thank you all for your support during our down time, as Ive seen mentioned in this thread Dark Life is available for play as it has been for the past few years on the Navora sim. There is a donation box and information about Darklife in arcadia. As well as a link to the sim itself.

Good work on all these wonderful games, I have personally checked out all the games on the two sims and I'm very pleased with what ive seen. Everyone involved should be very proud of there work as I am amazed at the quality present in every one of the Arcadia games.

On behalf of the Darklife Team, Id like to say goodluck to everyone.....
And thank you Linden Lab for giving the game developers of SecondLife the oportunity to entertain our fellow Sl residents.

In all fairness I have only tried two games at the expo thus far......once I started playing Boogie I kinda took root.
There ARE different genres and many things for many people.

I personally am attracted to games with that competitive edge but ALSO the social aspect. (which is HUGE to me) Going to try the others soon :)

The skill and patience involved in developing these games just floors me, all of the developers should be quite pleased w/ themselves.

There was a thread where we were to nominate ...what 4 or 5 games (I forget now) to enter the expo...then after tallying up the responses the finalists got a spot. I THINK this is about right :)

i have a problem with darklife, i would be like level 5 but the dam sim keeps crashing so i am still a measily level 2 and my stats are still stupid. SOOOO since I IMed yal and had no responce i am going with castle wars and tec warefare all the way!!!!!! ON THE OTHER HAND, the collective and danger zone seem pretty awsome, watch out tec warfare, you finally have some compitition.

Thank you everyone who thinks Castle Wars is a great game hope I get enough traffic to stay for a year. The other games are well done too. I heard the Lindens were going to do a poll like this to help decide who stays but I don't see it. Wonder if there just gonna use this one plus of course the income generated from each game. Which makes me wonder, I'm charging 10 to play now, would I get the same numbers of players if I raised the price to 25? 70 percent of what goes in per game goes to the winner each round so winners play free plus make a few bucks. Oh and if anyone tries to play once the game has started sorry IM me I'll refund your money, with the Linden script in tracking income it doesn't turn off the pay option and still takes your cash sorry. Thanks for the extra votes though.

Not sure if this matters but Phil Linden played Tech Warfare. ;)...and all the games Ive had a chance to play seem fun.

Congrats to all.
