Linden employees are allowed to take copies of any item they wish.

Did you all know that the linden employees/linden avs are allowed to take copies of any item inworld that they want without paying for it.

This is totaly bad and should not be allowed. If we have to pay for stuff, they should have to pay also. That's like stealing our hard work and our time and effort we put into our items we make and sell.

Something should be done to change this.

Think of it as a way of saying Thank You to The Lindens for giving you world to make and sell stuff in.

I consider that "Thank You" to be the monthly payments they recieve.

That sounds strange to me; can I ask where you heard this? Is it rumour Thursday already?

I got this info from a friend of mine who in turn got it from a Linden.

In the Server menu, there's a Take Copy option. Also Set Owner To Me and other interesting things.

/me is not worried about this. As long as I get to keep a copy of my stuff..

So we are getting this from you (1st person) who got it from your friend (2nd person) who got it from a Linden (3rd person). Not to be an ass........but how are we to reliably know this is a fact? Three mouths before it comes to us.........lots of room for embellishment.

They own and operate the servers that all of our assets sit on, so it's no surprise they "could" do that if they wanted to. They "could" also hit the off switch any time they like. What is your implication? Is it that Lindens are not paying for anything they aquire, or that they get unlimited expense accounts? I can go back through my records and find half a dozen Lindens that have bought stuff from me in the past. Why would they do that? If you make a statement like that you need to provide more proof than just hear-say from a friend of a friend.

I don't need to ask around for myself..........it doesn't bother me in the least. First, I doubt it's true. And second, if true, then it's a perk for being employed by the company providing the service (or whatever).

Did you know that your local Cable TV employee gets his/her service for free. That's every channel, tier, and pemium service...........totally free (including additional outlets and even the converter/DVR boxes). That is a fact..........I used to work for a cable company. It's first hand information.

Even though it's there, I doubt they can use it to take whatever they want. LL can be very strict about what they're people can and cannot do.

So, it's pointless to randomly give them stuff?

Then read my second part. And aside from just being a perk it could very likely be a necessity for resolving some griefing issues or disputes. And I'm also sure there are restrictions for it's use......abuse would most likely lead to disaplenary actions.

Yeah. The Lindens own the servers. They can do whatever they please with them. That said...

Did you know that Google logs your IP address and search queries? They could use that private data to spy on your activities!

Hey! The people who run Amazon.com *could* buy stuff from their own store for free! Something must be done about it!

LL has financial information for their premium residents. They could be using your info to steal your identity!

Since LL has the usernames and passwords of every resident in SL, how do you know they they aren't posing as residents in this topic?!?!?!

LL also has the ability to change your L$ balance on a whim. They might exploit that for their own evil purposes!

Hopefully, I've made some kind of point here. Some of the above things may not have made sense, but you know what I mean.

First- Your objects are nothing more than bits of code in a database on a server's hard drive.

2nd= If they can do this (and I'm sure they can), it is a good thing. What if you were a Griefer with a Sim Crashing tool of some sort in your Inventory. If one of the Linden's asked you to hand it over, would you? Most likely not. SO, they can be nice & ask for something, or using God-Like Powers, take right from your inventory.

Like all powers- it can be used for good or evil.

hmmm. Risk a job for a object that cost .50 cents to what $50 is the most expensive things I've seen? I don't think so. If they take a copy for personal use they will not be flashing it around. Like stated earlier - they need the ability to manage the system.

Yesterday, much to my surprise, i got a Linden in my shop. He bought many things and I had a nice chat with him. I don't think anyone else can have the sirname Linden, so I guess it was the real thing. He bought the stuff and paid for it. Just like normal people lol.

I agree this thread is a troll but not that Lindens can use this option as a perk. We've heard several times (but I can't find any reference now.. 3am..) that at least some of their actions are very strictly controlled and, despite their godlike powers, they can't just go do whatever they feel like.

/me hopes that when Strife gets around to locking this one, he confirms this.

I have actually seen a Linden buy things as well, lol. That is why they get a stipend!! So they can play the game the way WE do. Keep in touch with the user experience, lalala.

And, why should we care if they can copy everything? They are not going to sell or give it away. I agree, this is a troll thread.

For my understanding they can do what they wish..........By why should they? they can get linden dollars to buy things. As long as they sign and ecplain what it was for.

I'm fairly certain the god powers are for maintenace reasons and no more. A friend just (excitedly) IM'd me because a linden made a purchase from her and was wearing the item (clothing) in his profile pic as well. I'm sure Lindens are required to purchase anything they wish to possess. It was stated in an earlier post that they have the servers, hence they have the rights to what's on it, but I don't believe that's true. I'm pretty sure the ToS states that you have the rights to what you've created.

this article deals with the producer of sex gen platinum who is taking someone who copied his stuff to law.

wait till the end of this process and if he wins the case, let LL copy your stuff, take them to law and maybe you become really rich^^
