Sigh

That throws a kink in my theory.

Wait, question

Had you had the inventory window open recently? Or, perhaps, had you taken or deleted an object? (Both of which would involve modifications to your inventory)

*edit*

The agent misc thing happens for me sometimes to, though not every time.

I noticed this effect myself.. Was coding and had a debug message spewing out every 15 seconds. After a while, whenever it said something, I had those huge spikes. In fact, I sware it grew worse and worse to the point where the client would lock up for 1 - 2 seconds each spike. Logging out and back in ceased these spikes. I almost wonder if it is something within the history window....

[EDIT]:
I did some testing about the theory of it being the chat history.. This is what I did. I wrote a simple script which will whisper 100 lines of text:
CODE

default
{
state_entry()
{
integer i;
for (i = 0; i < 100; i = i + 1)
{
llWhisper(0,"Test blast number " + (string)i);
}
}
}

I did a fresh login, and looked at my FPS, which were sitting at about 30fps.
I then reset the script, to cause it to do the text blast. And repeated, and repeated, etc.
This was the measurements of the effects:

Blast Dipped to FPS
1 27
2 19
3 12
4 7
5 4
6 2
7 I had to relog, things just got too slow.....

Each time I let the fps return back to 30. I also had another script that would say a line every fifteen seconds. At the fresh login, there was barely a burst, but after the 600 lines to the chat buffer, the giant spikes were back.

In conclusion, chat is wacky.

For me, I wasn't creating/editing or in my inventory.

Ok, I admit it. I was in Tringo. :D

It is getting worse - whenever I open my inventory, I am disconnected with a red map half the time, and tonight, the sim ping jumped over 65k. SL has become completely unusuable for me.

As an addendum to my previous responses, the answer is that the problem does, indeed, exist on my machines - I just didn't directly notice the dip in FPS half the time.

The bugs I noted however, specifically around textures for me, exist. I got hammered with a huge stream of update texture lag when I changed out a single-prim texture recently, as well as other problems.

I think this new streaming technology is comparable to kinking a garden hose - the data stream is noticably smaller in general, but when you need something (unkink the hose) - you pretty much open the floodgates. :o

The problem seems to be worsening - as soon as I do anything with my inventory at all, the ping will spike to higher and higher numbers - I thought it topped out in the 80k range, but later it went over 100k, before I got disconnected with a red map

Over the weekend, I found a strong relation between opening my inventory and the few minutes of spikey lag. I could be connected for an hour with no problems, but after opening my inventory sub-folders, I'd get hit for a few minutes.

My experiences are the same, it does seem to be worsening just as you say.

My experience after 1.6

I have noticed that this problem seems to somehow involve the inventory window - I was signed in for awhile with no lag, then as soon as I opened my inventory, the sim ping fps went up to 40,000 again and stayed up for several minutes. It eventually cleared. Nearly every time this has occured, it has occured after working with inventory in some way.

I have the same problem Cristiano. I have a very fast computer and connection same as many of you. I went on holiday for 9 days and came home to the new update. Nothing had changed on my system. I could do some intense design/building before I left. What happens now is I open my inventory and I get hit with debilitating freeze. It's not normal lag. The only thing that gets me out of it is a relog. Often I have to hit the power button on the harddrive to power down as the mouse does not move onscreen.

It's not just the inventory. I get this "lag" when I rez objects as well. If I rez a plywood box it crashes me. I also get this effect when uploading textures. I do a bulk upload and I crash after perhaps the third texture. With each texture uploaded the game gets slower and slower until my mini map goes red and I crash.

Torley I have all of the same things happen to me in the debug console as you have also reported.

I can move around fairly well everywhere if I don't build...don't upload and stay away from editing textures.

What I have done is moved all of my sliders to minimum settings..removed all shadows..shiny objects...lit objects...particles...everything. I don't stream media anymore. I now have my avie moving at the speed I had in 1.5. But SL is very very plain lol. Still I can function and be social.

However I am not here to be social. I build. It's like Bryce or Terragen for me only I can share my toys and projects live with other people..as well as support my sim with my shop Relic.

Design has halted completely for the shop and the only fix I hear about is the texture bug for 1.6. I think I could deal with constant crashing but what hurts is not being able to build. Period.

On a plus note I have refined my Poser skills lol. Uploading poses and anims is the same as before. Very nice and fast without bringing on the lag.

I am not one to gripe typically and I am very patient so I'll sit and see how the new patch goes..but to date this is the most serious hit to my shop yet. I'm sure all of the other designers are sweating to see if the patch fixes our problems.

If I had more time to debug on my own and study my debug panel, I would. I also don't have time to faithfully fill out numerous bug reports and I don't because there are so many others that have the exact same problem as I do.

I also reflected a bit on the debate of having such a buggy update due to lack of testers in the preview grid. My thought on that is:

1) Offer incentive to test.

Perhaps a discount/break on one month of SL land tier fees. The loss of revenue from tier fees would be a short term hit in exchange for a more stable product with happy gamers and referrals to family and friends...In theory lol. I know all too well how a nice neat idea that works in small test markets can go wrong when introduced to the public as a finished product.

Another point of view to consider, that most likely explains the complaining, is the expectation of good quality service for pay. For example...There is nothing I pay several hundred dollars monthly for where I have such consistant downtime. I stay though because when it works..it's magical.

I cannot begin to list all of the major bugs I deal with owning a sim. Potentially debilitating bugs I have to find my own way of dealing with..without support from LL...but this is one I cannot find a way around and so here I am.

I'll start filing bug reports after the patch if this problem does not clear up to do my part to help locate the problem.
