Does SL have an "end game" scenario?

I was going to put this in the off topic subforum but it appears to have disappeared. Who knows if even that was the correct choice. Oh well, back on topic.

As is fairly obvious i'm sure, Second Life has been recieving massive amounts of exposure in not only magazines and television, but now the online gaming world in general. Mmorpg.com has, albiet slightly misinterpreted, a page for SL now.

With more specifically people from Runescape and Puzzle Pirates, among others, heading to this game of ours, it makes me ask myself a rather interesting question. Does Second Life have an end? Is there a daunting yet achievable point in which you'd consider yourself completely accomplished in every facet?

When i speak to friends very familiar statements come up. They alone are unique to other MMO environments. "To have fun", and, "To avoid drama".

But that is hardly material and/or constructive growth. I personally find myself running around to the same locations, exhibiting the same skills (or lack thereof).

So with this all being said, i'd encourage you all to perhaps shed some personal light on this. Who knows, during the process of reading and replying somebody may be forced to change their "end game" scenario to adapt to their curiousity surrounding somebody else's.

You just have defeat every boss in the game. I'm currently searching for Robin Linden, who I'm told has a lot of hitpoints.

When you can sit down and create a custom avatar with unique textures, freshly scripted actions and effects, custom poses, and appropriate and realistic sound effects, starting from scratch with nothing but a brand new account and a PC full of graphic software (it's a lot, but it's all I've got) faster than you can fake it by buying stuff... then you've "won the game".

Once you figure out once and for all that SL is not a game is when you "win".

The only "End Game" scenario I can envision for SL and LL is losing ground to some ficticious future competitor.

Until then... I hope the end 'goal' for LL remains an just-out-of-reach-but-as-of-yet-unnattainable moving target. :)

Games have ends or goals. The Secondlife TOS says explicitly that it is not a game. Ergo, no 'end'.

Actually, I think the end game is when we can upload our soul/consciousness into SecondLife near the end of our physical first life... so we can live on past the end of our natural years, thus achieving immortality.

This is true. Though also as a technicality, the phrase "end game scenario" does not have to apply to a gaming environment, even if i did play it off that way. First life's end game scenario is death, or at times you'll find an idealist or new age guru who'll make you second guess that.

I like this option best... however, if we upload, do we still retain our IP rights, or do we BECOME someone else's IP rights? LOL

The end game? Reaching the highest monthly payout amount of $10,000 and staying below the tax authorities' radar.

L$260k and counting.
Lol.
(btw, Ginko's interest on L$2,000,000 is roughly $350 in a month given current exchange rates)

when Phillip Linden arrives in a golden cloud of script errors, holding the Platinum Krispy Kreme in one hand, and the Silver Cup of Starbucks in the other(You must defeat in this order the following lindens: Robin(roll logic + common sense, this will confound her for exactly 2 minutes use them wisely), Jeska(if You can withstand her smile and friendly banter, You have already defeated her), and Robin2(who will be highly po'd that you confounded her), hit phillip with credit card info several times in the pocket, but avoid the dreaded "Hug o' Day". those who have experianced this have never been heard from again.:D:D:D:D

You can skip most of that if you know the right places to use the magic words "plugh" and "xyzzy".

Everyone's so secretive. Trying to keep you from winning first. To defeat Philip Linden you need the Mighty Sword of Quanternions, which you can only get if you buy one of everything at Phase 5, walk up to the radar tower and shout "llSensor(xyzzy) me, baby!", and climb to the middle section where there's a door marked "hgulp".

It's pretty much unstoppable, but be careful, you can only use it so many times. If you use it up, you'll need to get a second one. Impossible if you run out of uses in the middle of the big battle.

Since SL is a "place" and not a "Game", there is no one "End Game Scenario" where you can say "I WON!". No more so than there is to life itself.

There is, however, an end game scenario where we all say, "I lost!", or most likely where we say something far less suitable for the ears of civil company.

That scenario happens when LL goes bankrupt, turns off the servers, and we lose everything we ever created, with no recourse. Or alternatively it happens when some other company believes the LL PR hype, buys LL out for far more than it's really worth, and tries to start charging way too much to log in again, making it financially impossible for most of us to continue, and thus again resulting in a complete shutdown of SL.

You can't win, but you can see the dreaded "GAME OVER". :(

Let's hope it isn't any time soon.

Except on every other Wednesday for the update, and Thursday for bug fixes of the new update, and Friday and Saturday for grid shutdown due to griefers' self-replicating objects. Guess that leaves Sunday. Monday and Tuesday for your immortal self to roam the realms of Second Life. Of course there may be rolling region restarts during these days, not to mention massive lag. Sure doesn't sound like heaven to me.

:)
