Tis true. Sl slams in features that most of the time seem like they shouold take a VERY FAR back seat to stability and performance***...and what about that new engine that had been promoised so long ago?....That we all voted for as a priority... **** We have streaming video in sl, that people are rarely using. That caused ass loads of problems. along with the speach bubbles, that I dont know of anyone using, probably some do.

I think things get done on a what's easiest to do at the time priority.

Edit: Cant manage to stay logged in at the moment either.

I don't know who hosts/streams or who prepared your streaming movies, but if this is done correctly, they should not cause big overheads on anyones clients with a T1 connection or better. It is easy to assess if land is suitable for media streaming (not all sim servers are in a fit state to do so) but with careful planning and preparation of the movie, it can be acheived in almost all cases. We recently completed a project for the Avatar Action group, turning 5 DVD's worth of movies into less than 1/2 a DVD using the same resolutions and in most cases better quality, and streaming at less than 100kbps. For the most part, the default settings of the client haven't changed for some years. We have a NC giver outside our offices that give basic settings that should give most users, a better experience and allow media to flow with ease.

No new features, please.
04-27-2007 10:45
This "upgrade" is by far the worse I've experienced in my year in SL. IMs are borked. The greeting message tells you you can teleport directly to your friends on line from the website, but the friends list on the website is disabled. Group IMs inworld are so messed up, you can respond or have your screen flooded with group IM chat. People are 'muted' , but not on your mute list. The ongoing problems with the Friends List is totally being ignored by LL. Now, they have made getting in-world Live Help almost impossible and have made the "user-friendly" way of Help so confusing, it's hard to know where to start. I vote to roll back the upgrade to the last version and work over this one before releasing it. What the hell is Beta for anyway? Been there and saw nothing, which explains why they can't find the bugs before release. No new fancy features. Fix what doesn't work. Assign the fixes and to hell with letting Devs pick and choose what THEY feel would be in their "comfort zone".

I don't have any problem with 1.15 (but none of my reported bugs are fixed so it's not any improvement either).
I won't use megha-super-speak feature or any other fancy stuff but Im not against it.
I must say Im a little dissapointed becose of the fact that in all this months we can't fly or sail or drive properly, we can't be sure nothing will dissapear from our inventory in the morning, we don't know if the client will crash in the next tp, etc. but "engineers" have time to design more future-failures and conflicts.

i totally agree to petition, i am a new paying resident and i have now not been able to log in since wednesday and it is highly frustrarting when i cant even get back on to pay my rent, i think a big rethink needs to be done with SL because there is far to much money being invested and not enough being done.

I'm pretty sure that somewhere in the SecondLife client source code, you will find the following comment line:
//I'll explain this later

This should explain a lot of things. :)

My "2 cents".

yet another DEGRADE from SL Gods
04-27-2007 15:06
I agree 1 million percent i too pay a subscription along with other money and would like to see any and all issues repaired before new problem upgrades. And just because it works in 1 little test grid dont mean it works everywhere. Or it works to a computer that is feet away from servers but the poor guy half way around the world is halving problems yet gets told works fine must be your computer or modem or isp. Ive been playing games online for almost 12 years now and not 1 of the ones i play have this many issues and yes they are graphic intense. But they dont do any version updates like this for months till every bug is worked out to a tee. Get with it guys we pay to play so let us .

I don't know, its things like this that really get me miffed.

Second Life is a growing thing, I mean, back in 2005 there were less than 1 million residents, and how many are there now? They probably didn't expect it to jump so suddenly, and Second Life *has* gotten better since when we first had the jumps and everything was really laggy (before render pipeline improvements).

If you have an older computer, that can't play it, upgrade it. If you can't afford to, then don't play Second Life. If they..Oh I don't know upgraded The Sims 2 to The Sims 3 perhaps, and upped their graphics, would you start sending angry emails to them? Nobody is forcing you to pay for Second Life, hell even new accounts are free!

If you are losing out on money, and you just can't stand the lag, then again, leave the game. If you are losing out on real money, and the lag bothers you, then its as simple as that. If you are depending on the game as your real life income, well I don't really want to get this harsh, but you shouldn't depend on something that is like Second Life. Nobody is forcing you to pay.

I make around L$40,000 a month from Second Life, some months are high, some months are low. Sure, there are days that Second Life is just so laggy I cannot stand it, and simply log out. The next day, it might be worse or better. For residents that have been in the game for some time, its just a simple matter-of-fact. You learn to deal with the lag over time.

Okay, I'm done ranting an raving. I probably forgot something, but oh well.

- To the person above: I have no issues with lag.... the coding does not like my $300 card! 1-
Ok.... the main error and the main reason I am pissed is the fact that LL seams to be Biased is against ATI cards, my cards could run 1.4 1.5 went to *censored by teh cheeseboat*

Atleast put 1.4 back out as an acceptable version
I BEG OF YOU!!!

SL certainly seems to be getting worse these day. I joined about 7 months ago and this latest "update" is by far the worse I've seen. Yes even worse then November and December.
I'd gladly roll back at least two versions, anything has to be better than this!
Please LL help out your residents!!!

(from m-w.com) -- with my comments.

(2) : to kill, harden, and preserve for microscopic study -- eek! No!

(3) : to make the image of (a photographic film) permanent by removing unused salts c : AFFIX, ATTACH -- um, I think not.

2a : to hold or direct steadily <fixes his eyes on the horizon> -- hrm.
2b : to capture the attention of <fixed her with a stare> -- hrm.

3a : to set or place definitely : ESTABLISH -- done.

Was it not 6 months ago, when everyone was commenting on how long it took for textures, clothes, building etc to rez? Now the new client has been upgraded with new rendering pipelines, there are other issues of priority.

Admittingly, there are now more bugs effecting a percentage of the SL population more than others. Some can't stay on the grid more than a few minutes before crashing, whilst others only see benefits. This maybe something to do with the upgrading of the graphic rendering, requiring more GC bang for your bucks. For years SL's minimum specifications have remained stagnant, shouldn't it become acceptable that as SL develops, so the minimum specifications should rise to keep in pace with those increases? How much backwards compatibility can you put into code?

Blaming LL for ATI and Vista issues, is a diversion. Companies like Microsoft and ATI are big players. Backward compatibility from Vista is a joke in many cases, ATI wasn't prepared for either Vista or the OpenGL drivers, which is unforgiveable.

I'm supprised this thread has not been shafted by the lindens yet with some lame excuse of theirs......

Another thing, we paying residents are in the same rank as your share holders if you think about it, if some of us leave others are likely to leave (or in financial terms, sell the shares, dropping the value of the company, If share holders start to see a decrese in residents, which they won't because you put up a mask that shows all registered users and not active members, that is kinda against the law, ya know, showing false information... something to think about Hm?)

And let us know more, you don't have to pay us to help you guys out, post more information, We really dislike the "We are working on the issue posts" because it makes us feel that you all think just because we are not LL employees, we don't have the mental capacity to understand what is hoing on. Hell, we may even know how to fix it!

There is my rant for today

For me, this beats the "Missing Image" updates. I can deal much quicker with an outfit not rezzing (and at current, deal with a different and worse texture bug) than with completely borked friends and groups, and an unstable money system.

For a largely social-based "game" where one can make money (however you wish to define it), this is a biggie.

They gave up reading the forums long long ago.

I suspect once in a while one of the fic sends an email directly to a linden inviting them to a thread that might have some interest, but beyond that... this venue has been forgotten by them.

Unfortunately this "update syndrome" is not unique to SL. I've seen several online game companies do the same thing. They add more features/content while existing features/content is bugged or broken, in some cases for a year or longer.
I don't think that LL is any different in this regard. They really can't help themselves, I'm afraid.

LOL.. the nerve of some youngerlings....

FYI the pipeline improvements in the current client came from the FirstLook Viewer version, which you probably didn't use, so therefore were 'protected' by us 'children' who helped beta test it... Your problems aren't shared by me, or a lot of other people.. read the forums throughly with specific regard to the ATI OpenGL drivers before you make random comments...
