I'm getting the same thing and it keeps crashing me. I can't even go to the land I own because of it. It isn't on my land, but it's close enough (wherever it's at) to crash me when I go there.

See, thing is so many people have 1 paid account! get a grudge...make an alt...grief like sh*t off the shovel! and cause this. Maybe this is a bit more of a professional job though.
Still think that if people had to pay, for every account they have...SL would be a far better & different place. _____________________

Indeed I did, and here is a brief snippet of the conversation I just had with one of the many object owners:
[12:41] RobbyRacoon Olmstead: I have muted you in order to halt inventory offers, because you have objects on Cincta that are performing a grid attack. It's not personal, as I can only hope that you didn't intentionally start this, but I have filed an Abuse Report against your objects and reported it as a grid attack. [12:42] Giada XXXXXX: sorry i have receved this object [12:42] Giada XXXXXX: help me please This person has been in SL for 9 months now, and it absolutely AMAZES me that people still rez objects named "Object" from people they don't know. . _____________________

/me thinks it would be easier for people to help if you told them where this was happening. Presumably in several places concurrently, but certainly on Cincta. _____________________

Maybe this is a bit more of a professional job though Nope. It's a trivial script-kiddy job, takes no intelligence or "professional" skill at all. There's only been one (arguably) intelligent grid attack that I've ever heard of, and even that could be done by probably the majority of the scripters on this Forum. . _____________________

Interesting, looks like a 9/11-related spam attack. How sadly lame.

This person has been in SL for 9 months now, and it absolutely AMAZES me that people still rez objects named "Object" from people they don't know. HAHA, It's the same people that repetively spam any major group with: "DON'T Accept/Use dance ball or Mega sculptie C**k from Leath McThief, it will take all your Lindens" _____________________

So I log in & get spammed the above message 2 fk million times! then it crashes me? Is the grid under attack?????????? simple - get rid of no pays. I'm on a basic account. You're going to assume that only 'no-pays' cause mayhem? Hey...you got my vote for President of Lindenworld. I'm willing to bet, it's the paying customers that do more hacking and griefing. _____________________

So I log in & get spammed the above message 2 fk million times! then it crashes me? Is the grid under attack?????????? simple - get rid of no pays. That's a shame that you have that attitude. Griefing is wrong, annoying, bad.. etc. But I know quite a few basic account avies who have been around for awhile who create amazing content. Gorgeous jewelry, helpful scripts, you name it, they make it. It's really a shame that anyone would lump a basic member into a category of a griefer based solely on whether they pay to play. I know 2 very different people ... One spends unGodly amounts on her CC for clothes, skins, little SL toys... doesn't create anything. her only function is to club hop, dance on escort polls and buy her avie clothes... but she's a prem member... next one creats some amazing items. He helps out his fellow avies... he spends how many hours a day reading the forums and applying knowledge and advice to the rest of us? Not a prem member... I own land. I own an SL business. My partner is a basic member. Only one of us needs to be premium to own and deed land to group. Yet I've never met a more talented jewelry maker. Do me a favour... take this personally. And climb down from your Visa/MC horse _____________________

It happened on Lunata as well. The objects changed their name every second and after 30 minutes, deleted themselves.

I own land. I own an SL business. My partner is a basic member. Only one of us needs to be premium to own and deed land to group. Yet I've never met a more talented jewelry maker I hear ya... I'm a basic member, and I rent a great deal of land and have several shops to sell my high-quality wares in-world. I regularly sponsor tournaments and events, paying 15K out of pocket on average per event, and I pay another 50K a month in rent. I am what I would call a pretty upstanding member of the community and certainly no drain on the economy. I just don't want to own mainland, and a premium account is simply not compelling for people that don't want to own mainland. But there's an overwhelming amount of ignorance and superstition and blanket hatred regarding "no-pays" that's apparently never going to go away. . _____________________

But there's an overwhelming amount of ignorance and superstition and blanket hatred regarding "no-pays" that's apparently never going to go away. I think that's a blanket statement actually. I have no hatred of "no-pays" but I do think they need to go away. Or even if free accounts don't go away, there needs to be "Payment Info" on file. It wont eliminate all griefer's, of course, but would definitely help to close accounts. I don't see how LL will continue to not require this. If they want to continue to grow they need to greatly reduce this kind of garbage. |

Still think that if people had to pay, for every account they have...SL would be a far better & different place. Somewhat smaller, MUCH better. I've been a member of a couple of internet forums that went from free to subscription. When the change was made, you wouldn't believe the hollering, and the claims that "this is the end of freedom, the end of the XXX forum". In the end, though, the forums survived. The members that paid, and stayed, were the sane, productive, polite people that really mattered. The troublemakers almost all went elsewhere. |

Let me ask you something Bradley: in the real world, which hackers are the most powerful and influential--the highly educated ones, with full-time, high paying jobs...or the 'living in my Mom's basement' hacker? Contrary to popular belief and Hollywood, the most talented of hackers who crack major websites, banks, the CIA and FBI...they are all educated and employed. I think this is true for Second Life too. The really clever hackers are more likely going to be paying customers who all possess a higher education. Labeling griefers as non-paying nuisances is silly. _____________________

Of course it is, and intentionally so, since it was a response to a blanket statement ![]() I have no hatred of "no-pays" but I do think they need to go away. I can agree with the "Payment Info on file" part of that, and I think that's important for those who know they're no longer "still trying it out". For many, Second Life is not yet compelling enough to pay a monthly fee. That will perhaps change over time, it's improving a lot in many ways. It just has much farther to go. I agree that something needs to be done, but I think I disagree with you on what that is. . _____________________

But, how could you prove that?! They'd have to be pretty stupid to use their paid accounts for griefing. That, was solely my point tbh....Didn't mean to point the finger at completely innocent people. Being careful with words now, but I think the majority of paying residents do act more responsibly....the majority. _____________________

The really good car thieves will steal your car no matter how much you lock it and how many alarms you put on it. The really good burglars can easily get into a locked home. We lock our cars and bolt our doors anyway because the vast majority of car thieves and burglars and not experts. |

/me is sorry to be so hated by Cheri
![]() All forum participants have payment info on file so I suppose that in at least Bradley's view I scrape by as an acceptable resident, but the tone of rhetoric often used in discussing non-premium residents is truly bizarre to me. ONCE AGAIN: Premium fees account for approx. 20% of LL's revenue stream. TIer is about 70%. I am quite sure that the volume of $L spent by non-premium payment-info-on-file low-lives is much more important to LL's success than people's premium fees. Who do you think LIVES on all those islands that estate owners pay tier on? Further, the overall volume of economic activity within SL is probably more important than REVENUE to LL. It goes to their core value proposition. Again, that volume is largely driven by payment-info-on-file free accounts. I believe that those accounts are more important to LL's success than premium accounts. So, perhaps people need to clarify their postings to always specify WHICH free accounts they want to do away with. Get rid of the "payment info on file" free accounts, and a significant chunk of the SL economy goes with. Further, I seriously doubt that LL is going to do anything that makes it impractical to deploy bots. So, even if they want to do away with no-payment-on-file free accounts, they are going to have to create SOME other class of membership to allow that functionality. |
