In an idle moment I thought I'd look in people search to see how many residents there are with nasty, or inappropriate forenames - the sort of names that might be considered beyond the pale. I'm not naming individuals as I'm only listing the forenames I found in large numbers:

Hitler / Adolfhitler - 54
Stalin - 100+
Mao - 100+
Osamabinladen - 17
Polpot - 14
KKK - 61
Murderer - 21
Rapist - 16

It might be interesting to see what others come up with.

Mao, Hitler and Stalin are common family names in their respective countries. Adolf is a popular first name in both Austria and Germany even now.

Also, I'll have you know my very first high-school sweetheart was named Rapist KKK Murderer (lovely girl - gorgeous hair).

Where I live, in the pleasant suburbs, however, conifers are a constant source of misery to the neighbours of inconsiderate people who grow a paticular variety (leilandiai) on their property lines.

I knew a chap who'd called himself Wanker. Everybody loved greeting him, for some reason.

Hitler's name was partly an invention, adopted by his assumed father. His mother's family name was Schicklgruber and 'Hitler' is thought to be a corruption of another of his ancestral surnames, 'Heidler'. Has anyone ever heard of any other Germans or Austrians with the surname Hitler? I certainly haven't.

'Stalin' means 'made of steel' in Russia and was also an adopted nickname. But since Steel is a fairly common name in English-speaking world, it's not impossible that Stalin is a geniune name in Russia. Stalin's real name was Joseph Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili (from Wikipedia).

I've heard of a few Americans having this surname, actually - or had it before they changed it due to ol' Adolf. Probably an "Americanization" of Heidler or a similar surname, as was very common when people with non-English surnames immigrated to the U.S. 'round the turn of the last century.

Tell me about it! I'd just been helping to cut Leylandii along the back of my garden when I joined SL. That's how I got my name - I think!

Osamabinladen - 17 (Osama bin Muhammad bin 'Awad bin Laden (أسامة بن محمد بن عوض بن لادن)
Polpot - 14 (born Saloth Sar, aliases Pol, Pouk, Hay, Grand-Uncle, First Brother)
KKK - 61
Murderer - 21 殺人者
Rapist - 16 強姦者

It might be interesting to see what others come up with.

mao is also "an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of many body compounds (e.g., epinephrine and norepinephrine and serotonin)" and so maybe people are trying to say that they are an enzyme.

I know some people that have used their initials as their first name, and I know some people whose initials are KKK.

Maybe the 16 people who have "Rapist" were trying to write something about being a rapper and weren't thinking closely . . .or something.

Actually I saw one of them when I was shopping yesterday. Just checked it when Conifer was giving name counts.

The RL Hitlers have, afaik, all changed their last name due to you-know-who....But I sure know some Adolfs. It's a very old fashioned name, so most of them are already over sixty, but it's not that when you're called Adolf, everyone makes fun of you.

*goes off to find people with the first names "Arschloch", "Wichser/Wixer", and "Sackgesicht"*

I don't know why people choose horrible names for themselves. I've seen some that I'm simply unwilling to chat back to the person...it feels like I'm insulting them.

In such cases, I work very hard to come up with an inoffensive contraction, or use the last name.

I've been informed that Psyra is Greek for 'louse'

'Louse Extraordinaire'.... kinda has a neat ring to it.

"Jism" means "body" in Hindi and Urdu. This could be a completely innocent name as well - there's a recent movie in Hindi with this title! Careful when searching for information about it in Google though ...

Slightly off-topic, as it's not an offensive name but rather a cleverly silly one, I briefly spotted someone yesterday named "Baddha Bing" - I wanted to congratulate him on his name choice but he ran off before I had the chance.

There were, but you could switch your name free of charge. Now there aren't any for sure. No sane person calls their baby son Adolf either.

You can come up with tons of offensive names by searching SL. Apparantly there aren't any restrictions when choosing a name. Just ignore people with names like that and move on.

Supposedly, my RL 1st Name, also my SL First Name, means "Death" in German.

LOL! The expression on my parents face when I told them this was Priceless!!!! :D

It also doomed me to never finding cheap personalized junk in stores. Not unless I wanna scrape off an extra "D".
