From: Eggy Lippmann Havok runs on the server Yes, but more on the server means more on the client. Havok 2 is going to impact server performance not improve it. Any slowdown in the servers and suddenly 5fps players are 1fps players and they are mad.

Actually, because of the way Havok 2 handles collision calculations, and reduces deep think, it should actually improve server performance to some degree. Which, based on your theory, should potentially improve client side perceived performance. What's more likely though, is that Havok 2's small gain will be used up by new features and the server performance will remain roughly the same. Of course this is just my take on the situation, and more than likely, I'm wrong. McW

It's helped me a great deal to open up a Havok folder. When I think up a project that would be fun for me to do, I ask myself first "does it require any movement whatsoever, or even any moving parts?", and if I answer yes, I put it in the Havok folder.
I actually do that, and it helps; I then can work on stuff that I can currently do. The only problem is I'll probably need to get a new hard drive, as that folder's getting pretty large.

continuous physics

Modern physics engines, like Havok 3, are abandoning discrete (time slicing) physics for continuous swept-volume physics. Put simply, continuous physics means that no collision will be missed, no matter how fast an object moves.
But, hey. Enjoy your Havok 1.

McW AND, in a roundup with Andrew Linden a week or so back he mentioned moving some parts of "new" physics possibilities to the client. Just search for the chat log, physics, iron perth, andrew linden, etc...

If I recall correctly, back in version 1.4, we were supposed to get havok2 in 1.6. So if it's not in 1.7, they should be telling us 1.9 is when we (won't) get it.

Havok2 was originally promised for late beta (ie early 2003). If it ever comes out, it will be nothing short of a miracle. LF

It's really sad actually. It makes me really wonder sometimes. Even though I can understand its difficult to code a new system in, it's just really disappointing when a company promises to deliver something and fails to do so, just about every single time at that, not just Havok 2, but other things as well.
But yet, I still keep my hopes up.
