Actually I am not using the NEW client. I am using the PRODUCTION client. The issues I refer to are the constant outages, the DNS problems, the Server issues, the grid wide shutdowns and restart.
All of these things it would seem could be avoided by using BCP and implementing proper protocols. I do not claim to know much about networks, but my brother is a Security Engineer and has been working with networks for 25 years. And after several discussions with my brother, he seems to think a lot of it can be avoided with proper planning and the implementation of BCP (Best common Practices). He did qualify the statement by saying he is only making an educated guess, without actually seeing the 'insides' of the network stuff he cannot state fact, only educated theory.
for example he's never heard of huge production level databases being 'shutdown' for maintenance and upgrades. Usually this sort of thing is done in stages, and widespread outages can be avoided so as not to continuously interrupt the experience of your paying clients (in this case gamers). So my beef is not with the viewer, but the system, and the way it needs to be constantly restarted and rolled around.
I can safely say in any given week there is a good 2 or three occasions where I am having MAJOR gameplay obstacles and the resulting cause is something to do with a server failing or a server needing to be restarted. Yet I do not seem to receive any credit or discount on my paid time for these outages. Instead, I get told it's MY COMPUTER, MY NETWORK, MY WHATEVER... only to find out later that it was .... WHAT NOT MY ISSUE? IMAGINE THAT!
kk So I guess I put four cents in on this one. ;P
Im mostly venting, but seriously when a lcient pays for a product they expect a certain level of quality control, and lately that control seems to have gone out the window. So while you may have to suck it up sometimes and deal with the outages, how's about givin us some sort of kicker for dealing with the lameness that could be avoided by using some planning.
-- Cheers

The problem is always the user, or the user's computer.
It's true.

Please do not cross post.

What is a cross post!? Is that a crucifix? No use crucifying Lindens they are the only ones who can fix SL! Besides why give them the easy way out.
And I beg to differ - reading all these 'cross posts', angry posts is helpful.
It tells me that others are having the same problems I am. Others are thinking similar thoughts. Others find it frustrating to see the word "Resolved" and know that there is no chance in the world that it is. Others who are frustrated because Lindens cannot be talked to! Others who see a wonderful thing going into meltdown mode through what seems to be lack of decent project plan - So DO cross post! Let off steam!
Fill the forums with our frustrations - it may be the only voice we have if we still want to have our SL.
Fix what we have first - I don't give a ### if I can see mist on the horizon - I'd just like to login and know I'm going to see an horizon in the first place!

From: Tarak Voss What is a cross post!? A cross post means posting THE SAME post more than once. This is not helpful at all.

Credit where credit is due - over the last 24 hours the performance on my land has improved - less package dropped, better ping rate and I have been able to increase my maximum band width a little with no noticable downside. Is this system wide?

Is this system wide? It's been alright for me yesterday and today, too-but be prepared to get flak by the naysayers now....

you have made the grid virtually useless lately.....impossible to run a business...impossible to give guests and customers a positive expierience...stop working on features stop working on new viewers...stop working on EVERYTHING but server stability and fixing the bugs and lag issues.....make the grid stable and playable then work on making things look better!

I'm still waiting for a fix or replacement for XML-RPC, which is currently one of the most broken, but also most needed, features in SL for web-site integration.

Could it be that bugs in the VIEWER cause your problems. That could be the reason for new viewer releases. Also don't forget the bug fixing Lindens are different from the feature creating Lindens.
