New client is pissing me off...

I generally like the main interface, it has been improved a lot.

My complaints are:

1) New client crashes and performs TERRIBLY. It is VERY annoying.
2) You changed the images for no fly/no build - WHY?!?!?! There was nothing wrong with them in the first place. The old ones were much more simple and DIFFERENT. The new ones are pretty similar to each other...

I totally agree, and would have used much stronger language than 'pissing' right now!!

This new client has been crap since I started using it. Searching for events doesn't work properly - either the full day's list doesn't come up or you get a list from 8 hour previous, or it just continuously says 'searching...'.

Trying to do simple things like walk or fly is ridiculous. Right now I am missing an event because I cannot tp to the exact spot because it's not coming up in search. I managed to fing the place myself but then I couldnt' walk or fly properly - my avatar keep on flying even when I chose to stop, the same for walking too, so I ended up somewhere else . Couldn't IM the organizer either because search just kept saying 'searching...'.

What did you LL guys do to the Search function?? It was fine the way it was. If it ain't broke don't fix it (and fix things that need it!).

And why remove the Preferences button from the log-in screen?? Now, if there are problems logging into your last area you have not choice but to wait till you 'can' get in. No more being able to choose where to log-in to.

My final gripe (so far) is not being able to submit a bug in-world. LL - your bug reporting system is far from user friendly (just trying to get to the damn page to report something can be confusing). Is this a ploy to try and reduce your reported bug numbers??? Because I'm sure that'll work. I can't see as many bugs being reported having to go through your system as it is. One of the most un-user friendly I have come across.

Performance in every sim sucks, at least a 40 to 60% degradation in performance -

Not one group chat works, instant errors the minute a chat window tries to open -

Instant errors for every single chat line that the buffer dumps to my screen with a chat error box right in the middle of the screen that I have click for each and every line in the buffer -

I crash the instant i log in for the first time in any given day -

I crash within 5 min of entering every new sim -

What's with the message "the sim you are in is not using the same version as you are, click this box for details" Uh huh, try to click the box before it vanishes, I actually caught it once though, you know that it says? Nothing, there is no link -

Isn't it neat how the tech support has been down since the new release? Best way to avoid a problem is ignore it...right?

Seriously though, where else can you go and get this much fun for free? If I didn't have so much damn real time and real money invested in this game I'd send delete it from my drive. They actually have allot of nerve charging money for us to beta test this piece of crap!

You can still get to preferences from the login screen by pressing CTRL-P, if I'm not mistaken.

The sim performance issues have nothing to do with the client; they're being fixed within the next day or two.

The new client does seem crashier, though, and I keep missing IMs because they don't flash and the colors of the IM tabs are too similar.

Seems ok to me, perhaps try one of the other viewers, thares around 6 to to chose from

I certainly can agree with Number 1. The client crashes of late seem non-stop. And it seems the client is not releasing any File-Handles and is taking up a lot of excess memory. Could that be the reason? I wish they could go back to the version that ran and ran and ran without crashing everyone who are only trying to have a good time here.

What annoys me is they think they're clever by fixing things which don't need fixing/are working perfectly well in the first place.

Well that's mostly down to SL not having any real "competition" at the moment.
But I think there's another 3D place coming out soon (was on BBC Click) which SHOULD get LL into gear, otherwise we're all going to be moving to there and leaving this pile of crap to rot...

EVERYONE in my contact list is "Waiting". Before they changed the client with this latest upbreak, I could fix that by clicking one of the "allow person to see my online status" or "allow person to see me on the map" and then clicking it back off...now that makes no difference at all. I have no idea who is online at any given time. Anyone know how to clear/reset this? It's SERIOUSLY annoying.

Still have the problem with my landmarks not being there either, so the only way I have to find some of the places I have landmarked is search, unless I want to log off and back on over and over again until my landmarks show back up.

The Chinese are developing 'HiPiHi' which is the next world-wide 3D SL 'killer' according to some. But one can only imagine all the net-latency trying to connect to *their* servers in many countries.

Normally I am so busy building and having fun in game I never come to the forums. But since the "Down Grade" I have allot of time to post and read that Im not the only one.

What cracks me up are the people that say "I dont see any problems, my life in grand" which is to say what? Should we cheer for you?

As to different viewers, if the client is crap, how will switching to a different viewer resolve that issue? You mean if I use a different viewer the chat errors will be fixed? You mean the entire LL tech support department is just there...for what; if the the solution is a 3rd party viewer?

I think I have been trained to deal with lag and never ending changes to things that seemed fine.like a drug dealer with a bad batch of drugs,they know the addicts will just deal with it and hope for something better soon.

It's just peachy we can bring a smile to your face by cracking you up. No better are the complaints of "it is totally broken, no one can log in!" when 30k of bots and other people apparently are logged in.

Probably works the same way that it does for everyone bleating that they are never upgrading viewers or wanting to go back to the old viewer will fix it I suppose. But then again mayb I'm running a different windows client to everyone else somehow? Apparently you know that none of the issues are caused by the viewer or your ISP or mice chewing on your phone cable

This client is the worst I have ever had, and I am getting ever so slightly ticked off with it...

I have strong computer, a quite new ati sli card. Newest driver, etc.
After i loaded down the new client all is in slow motion or does not load.
What a crap.
Instead of solving lindens problem with it pls help how i can find the older version and reinstall it.

Hmm...I guess you can't make a game work on EVERY PC--there are so many different configs of hardware and software it's not even funny. Seems we will always get mixed reviews from viewers.

This brand new one works perfectly on my work computer...my home computer is still using a viewer two versions old.

No, this isn't about the old "PCs are hard to program for" chestnut.

This is simply about buggy and incomplete work being shoved out the door before it is ready.

I was working fine with 1.19.0.5. I installed 1.19.1.4 (why they think a MASSIVE change to the render pipeline is worth a x.x.1 update, I will never understand), and I get 1 frame every SIX seconds. That's with the default recommended settings for my machine from the software itself!!

In fact I can run an old G5 iMac and an older macbook both using Airport two avs simaltaneously in world on one connection. New macbook, latest download - can't stay in world for more than 5 seconds without crashing - try to walk. Crash. Try to turn. Crash. Cache cleared each time, both other machines offline. Not a chance in hell of getting SL to run. Message to LL: Try writing a client for mac OS X 10.5 please.

I agree it isn't about the different computer configs. For me and some others that I have talked to with, the new viewer crashes and low frame rate,happened since I updated Friday to the new 1.19.4 version,frame rate has gone to crap.Even went back to firstlook and it ran better now today was forced to update that so im back to the shitty frame rate again , this isnt even funny. Now I have the 1.19.0 (w/e it is , the one before the new one now) and that even has shitty fps now when it didn't before I did the so called update on Friday.What the hell is going on, why sinse I updated has the frame rate gone to hell?

You will fix some of your crashes by setting the video memory slider in graphics to 1/2 of what your card's capable of. For example, if it's a 128MB card, cut it down to 64MB.

There are other crashes and hangs (like when resizing the client window) that still don't have workarounds yet.

New client works great, installed on 2 different machines.

ppl with laptops, get a tower next time.

ppl with ATI- ATI makes good hardware, but relies on a third party to do their drivers and it is their downfall as a GPU company every time. Lindens are probably in communication with them right now trying to get the info they need to get SL to work with their drivers, or getting ATI to patch their drivers for SL (of which ATI has to work that out with yet another company, so kinda slow process). Dell just went thru similar problems in their newest desktops having just made the switch to ATI as a semi-partner.... it took a little while but they fixed it with an updated driver. O, and next time you buy GPU, get Nvidia.

Sorry for the blunt opinion of laptops and ATI, but they are both things I dont mess with when it comes to my computing preferences- because of the issues and problems they always have (in addition to usually being more pricey too)- and seems like more than co-incidence to me that while SL is working "good as ever" (said slightly jokingly,lol) while so many of the people who are having huge issues right now are laptop users, ATI users...or even worse both.

P.S. thursday and friday of last week were indeed your usual "asset server cant deal with all the idjits that refuse to clean their inventory out- but walk around constantly complaining about how bad everything runs all the time" problems, and not the new client. (although I herd of a few people that figured a way to "mask" thier older 1.18.x client so they didnt have to update- and that prolly doesnt help things from the lindens standpoint- people did that kind of stuff when they first rolled out voice, and the results were bad)
