With this new version I have had tons of crashes not to mention a very odd "Your System Out of Memory"..... The next message is crash..........
This usually means the program can't release used and swap out so it just stacks and stacks and stacks until BAM... you are history...
I have never in all my life of computing had this happen and I use some very heavy duty programs all at the same time all day long....
That was until the new releases of SL... Something is very very wrong with the "client program". The longer you are in world the more lag that appears and your pc starts to really bog. Get out of SL and back in and your good to go for a while more, then the same thing...
It is not a personal system problem... It is a software problem contained in the client... Come on SL engineers, please take a look. Before the past release I could easily run SL 24/7 even with 2, yes 2 running at the same time.... Nothing on my end has changed so.......................

I've had exactly the same problem with the recent update....I can survive on SL for about 10 mins before Second Life's CPU usage and memory usage go through the roof (around the regions of 80-90% and 1000+ mb).
With that the lag becomes so unbearable that the only option is to log out, or (more often than not) the client crashes anyway.
Its nothing to do with my system either, because it happens on whatever client i use...old, new, dazzle....whichever, there is a serious leak and its making SL practically unplayable.

If you are using the 1.19.1.4 main client, I suggest installing Nicholaz Beresford's EC-e patch.
It fixed my memory related crashes, and also my delayed teleports and teleport crashes.
I don't think Nick's patch will work with the 1.20 release candidate, though.

1 GB of RAM is barely passable for running the client. I mean, where is the system going to store 2 GB of textures?

I'm finding that the Nicholaz viewer is not doing so well after 1.21 rolling restart. The lag is terrible on any graphics setting.

Nicholaz made my viewer "a bit" better but its not fixed. I'm pretty frustrated as everything was working fine untill about a week ago and then magically TP is freezing and I'm crashing every hour.
SL is screwy and the Lindens have tweaked something the wrong way (and now its down anyway *sigh*)
I'm reinstalling and going back to RR viewer - at least its fun.

I"ve been reading this thread since it started a month ago. I've been in world for more than 4 hours at a time with no problems at all (actually, was in world all day last Sunday)....well, the usual occassional failed tp and some short viewer lock ups every now and then. But, checking my system performance in device manager my memory is consistantly at about 640 megs from beginning to the end of the session. CPU usage is onsistantly at 40 to 45% also. I've gotten in the habit of running the performance thingie all the time when on SL just to see what people are talking about.
Nothing exceptional about this computer. Lenovo 3000 series K100 desktop running core 2 Q1066 with 3 gigs DDR3 RAM and an nVidia 8600GT 256 VRAM..........a Vista machine to boot.
I'm not understanding what people are talking about with a massive memory leak in the client.........I just don't see it.

I'll bite. Its been reported for over 6 months. Why bother when NOBODY is fixing or even trying to give feedback? Lindens really dont seem to give a shit about the big issues.

From: Klaus Demonia Its been reported for over 6 months. Why bother when NOBODY is fixing or even trying to give feedback? More like 5 years, but who's counting? The SL client leaks memory like a very leaky thing. Memory leaks are easily the most common error in C/C++ programming and can be very time consuming and a whole lot of no fun to fix. Worse still, if you fix a memory leak improperly, the code just crashes instead of leaking memory; given the choice, most mediocre programmers would choose the latter. LL knows about it, they've acknowledged it, and typically the people best suited to fix such leaks are the ones that are least interested in doing so. Oh well.

Because when people STOP reporting with this attitude Lindens stop paying attention thinking their is no issue. This attitude from people here on SL is EXACTLY why half the bugs go unreported, exactly why Lindens will NEVER know the true extent of the problems on second life, fustrating this is. This 'why bother' attitude suggest you don't give a shit any more that your willing to let SL go farther into hell. Go ahead give up, let SL go to hell. Don't be persistent. i have been able to get thru the lindens with my persistence, we need to STOP with this attitude , and start caring, we need to work together and keep on the lndens about these issues till they do fix it.

I am also having this Out of Memory issue now. I was using the Windlight Cool Release client and as with the Able client I was using before that did not experience a whole lot of serious crashing, although there were some every now and then. I changed to the official and latest Windlight release about three days ago because I wanted the advanced option menu which is not included in the Cool release. Every since I changed, I have been getting ridiculous lag followed eventually by these Out of Memory errors. One time I was at GOL3 and it was packed and I was able to avoid a full crash by tp'ing home. But then last night I was all alone in an open water sim on my boat and when I tried to change out of my two piece, bam. I hope I'm not naked when I next log in! My system is a dual core Athlon 6000+ with 3GB Ram 640GB of HDD space and an NVidia 8800GT 512MB video card. I can run Crysis with high settings for as long as I want without crashing but SL is more like SOL? /me drops head into hands...massages temples

So now I know what my problem has been I have been using the RC and was getting this mem full warning every time I typed. Thanks for at least posting this what to do what to do? I am not as computer savvy so I get a bit scared to mess with a lot of stuff. And this is a brand spanking new computer 4GB ahha I have similar settings as you also on a 64 bit and was afraid it was my 64 bit. I am thinking not at all. 320GB 5400RPM Serial ATA II hard drive with 8MB cache (1-320GB)6 NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800M GTS with 512MB of GDDR3 discrete video memory side note: thinking of trying Crysis

I did an experiment last night. I was bored. I decided to walk all the way around my continent on either Linden Protected Land or the few stretches of roads. While doing that I was keeping an eye on my system performane (from the Windows task manager). My memory usage and CPU usage were normal (about 50% and 20% respectively). About every 15 minutes (it takes over 2 hours to walk my continent..........LOL) I would pull up the performance box and check to see if any changes had occurred. I really thought a walk around a complete continent would be a good test since you see vast amounts of textures, pass through heavily populated and scrpted areas, and cross numerous sim borders. After the first hour I did see an increase in memory usage..........4% to be exact. I kept an eye on it and let it creep up to a 5% increase (another 15 minutes). Then, just on a whimp, I decided to do a disk clean up. Since I do disk clean ups often I know about what to expect to see when the clean up utility runs which is about 1 meg (installing and uninstalling naturally increases that number........but I've not done that in a week or so). I saw that I had nearly 5 megs of junk in my drive. I went ahead and deleted the junk files and checked my performance again............hmmmmmm, I was almost exactly where I was when I started my experiment. I think maybe some of the "memory leak" stuff can be written off to Windows. I use Vista Home Premium. Intel Core 2 Quad (Q1066), 3 gigs of DDR2 RAM, nVidia 8600GT with 256 VRAM. The client I was using was the regular one.....1.19.?

Hmmm... When I got the behavior I reported earlier, I was also testing out the memory performance on Vista Home Premium. My CPU never dipped below 97% unless I was standing stock still at which point it went down to 70%. My memory usage was between 40%-60% no matter what. If I was silly enough to try and dance, I was pegged at 100%, as I was on my jetski or in my yacht. Oddly, streaming music didn't hike the usage like I figured it would, and leaving mega-crowded areas for my own house didn't drop the usage either. This is just dumb, LOL!

SmartHeap Library Error
06-03-2008 04:22
I started getting the "SmartHeap Library" Error. I have been in game for some time now and then outta the blue I start having this error. I'm not sure what to do for it, because I don't want to cause any prolems with my Personal Computer. I noted the conversation about the patch and I am running the newer version of SL. I understand it will not work with the newer version. So, do I wait for the Lindens to decide to create a fix? I saw that this has been going on for some time now and expecting a fix anytime soon isn't in the fore-thoughts of the LL Tech's from what I've gathered. I'm not very happy about the whole situation.
