- I want my gridsize not to scale up with camera distance. (I don't use the visible grid anyway, just the snap function.) If i say 0.125 grid...then give me 0.125 grid!
Yes, please! Just like there is now a checkbox to allow/prohibit smaller snap increments, there should be one to allow/prohibit larger increments. (And for myself, I'd prohibit both.)

I'd also like the single-axis snap ruler to work a little differently. Right now you get rulers on both sides, well-removed from the axis on which you are dragging; you have to move your pointer off to one side in order for the "snap" to kick in.

What I'd rather see is a ruler on only *one* side, right up next to the axis. Move your pointer off-axis even a little to one side, you have free movement; a little off to the other side, you get snap-to-grid movement.

Only Major Issue I Have With 1.6

 ... ... You used free-drag for almost 2 years? And stayed sane?

I tip my hat to you, sir/madam.

Yup, almost 2 years of working this way. I don't want perfect precision with all my objects (placing things in my house, moving stuff around a table, ect...) Sure, I use the axis movement for more precise things, but when I'm trying to get a general placement or design down, I want things to move around easier. I don't want to have to move my camera all around the object just so I can find those tiny little tabs to click so I can move the object a bit.

All I want is a toggle somewhere, even in the debug menu. I have almost never used the drag select (caused WAY too many problems with selecting unwanted objects) and I don't intend to start using it now. A toggle in debug, or a switch in edit menu shouldnt be too hard to add in. Please just give the option to use pre-1.6 movement controls!

How about CTRL+3 to edit and CTRL+4 to create. I always used those. I've tried different combos in vain.

Free Movement was nice.
The ability to select multiple prims by dragging the mouse is nice, too.
These 2 bite each other, tho..
likewise:
I often accidentially moved prims around using the free movement thing. Bad.

To, in total, I think the free selection is more handy than the free movement control.
Either that, or make that a mode.. you know, as in "select mode" and "edit mode" and the like.

being too new to offer an experienced pov, i can only say that as someone who uses different 3D tools professionally, the snap features leave me perplexed.

In the series: how LL tries to make building as difficult as possible:

- The new grid functions snaps selections/linked prims to grid on CENTER instead of the last selected/root prim. Basically this makes it impossible to do any centering on grid by moving of selections.
Grid snapping of arbitrary centers of selections/linked prims is completely useless.

I don't know about anyone else, but I can't select text anymore with out holding down shift. Its a real pain, and doesn't work that well.

As I see it,

As I see it, in some ways 1.6 is better, I have yet to see it untill tonight, Sure movies Kawiii. ^-^
but whats the cost of that? as I have listened and spoke there are many a problem,
and too little solution,
Selecting textures, even building itself has became a pain in the rear,
but i've been gritting my teeth and bearing through the horrible framerates and the lag,
me and a few of my buddies have gone from 1 or 2 relogs per day to around 7,

Free movement, I miss that loads aswell, but there were as many cons to it as pro's, if one forgot to lock their object, it could have been sent across the sim and you could have lost it forever, or untill it was returned to you, but, as I see it it would have been nice if they put in a option to turn free move on and off,

what i'm wondering is, where are the solutions? the bright light at the end of the tunnel?
untill then I say calm down, grit your teeth and bear it untill they figure out what they need to do, I'm sure pressure is high, as I have worked at a few places where perfection is demanded, Sure building and textureing is a pain in the butt, but if we can all just wait
(Drive a tank or something I don't know!) I'm sure there will be many a solution to all of your problems one day or another,
