From: Zanza Marx
The pie chart changes are nonsensical. A person gets used to clicking on certain areas quickly. Now I'm searching around the dumb thing... not productive at all.

And I won't even begin to go into the loss suffered from this past weekend's crash. Wondering if I'm not just wasting my time altogether...but SL is just a nice distraction when I'm not distracted by bugs.

Yes Zanza, this last weekend was especially devastating to the Relay For Life Fantasy Faire. Last two days of the Faire and SL bombs. And what's the (claimed) reason? One of their associate sights had a "power failure".

I have power backup on my home computer system. If the power goes out... my own kicks in. In addition, I have to kind of wonder how it is that 8,000 sims being offline results in total shutdown of people being able to log in? That hints at far more than just a power failure.

Over the last 5+ years, I've predicted with 100% accuracy all grid crashes on Second Life (within 2 weeks of the crash... 7 for 7). I'm not bragging, I'm making a point: if mere customers can accurately predict grid crashes, why can't the people at Linden Lab do so? (and hopefully prevent such)

Mind you, I'm surprised SL doesn't crash more than it does. It's a complex system. I have no problem with such things; stuff happens. What I do have problems with is failure to meet basic expectations (chat, notices, texture loading, inventory management, etc), blatant greed and disinformation.

We have group chat that is not working, group notices not reaching members (really LL... how hard is it to send a notice to a list of names?), textures tha take forever to load, sculpties that never rez, invisible avatars, an increasing avalance of inventory items "no longer in database", a viewer cache problem that is creating a delay-of-service cascade on LL's own system... wow, what a mess. Contrary to company claims, SL is performing worse now than in my memory of board operations. How bad does it have to get before Linden Lab drops everything and attacks the foundation core code?

Instead, they make an attempt at windfall profit-grabbing and turn a blind and heartless eye as over 5,500 sims shut down and thousands of people leave Second Life. That's inexcusable attitude. When a company stops caring about the creations, needs and emotions of its customers, that company's future is limited.

Other thousands can't even use the system any more. I have a quad-core, Nvidia 9800 GTX graphics system with fast cable access-- and only recently I've had to knock my draw distance down to 128m-- for the first time in history-- so that I can move around SL without lagging. When a person has a super-powerful computer and they STILL lag-- that tells me LL just does not have its act together. It's obvious that neither the asset system, server software or client software is at the point it should be after nine years of development.

I'm usually a happy little dwagon... but lately I have not been so happy. SL performance is degrading to the point it's threatening to destroy my in-world business-- along with the investments of countless others.

We have told Linden Lab for years that their corporate policies and attitude would eventually turn and bite them in the butt. Looks like that's what's happening. We can only hope the company gets its act together before the whole line of dominoes falls.

Whatever happened to information in the Edit?

I used to use this while shopping to check prim count. Now I can no longer do that to objects not owned by me.

Inspect just lists all the linked objects which have to be counted one by one.

That is ridiculous.

It is the only update to SL that has ever maxed out my entire CPU. Not good LL.

I am always more wary now, when I read... 'Download the latest Client, it contains the latest bug fixes and better functionality'.... what it should read is ' Download the Latest Client, it contains more bugs for lesser functionality'...

If it's not broken, LL will find a way to break it. Then fix it some way down the road, then break it again. It works in favour of their 'Metrics/Stats' for Bug Fixing, what they don't tell you is, they pat themselves on the back for breaking the same things over and over.. I wonder when Ghost Prims will be back.... we must be due for them again soon...

To have group notices broken for such a long time, and no committment to when they will be releasing the 'fix' in the next release of server code, is at best concerning. What do we tell our new friends and or clients we bring into the platform? 'Oh that will be fixed.. ermm soon(ish)', we think... A death nail for a social platform.

Changing the Pie menu, another great strategy... why? The results are:- Those with disabilities, that have taken much longer than some of us, to learn how to do that oneway, now have to relearn all over again. Orientaion information and systems developed, are all now wrong. The benefits? None that make sense.

6 years.... and it still isn't anywhere near right, predictable, reliable, stable. Not bad for a company grossing nearly 60 million USD a year.

And the Lindens wonder why people are so hostile to them.

My experience withthe lasst 3 viewers
07-03-2009 07:16
I have installed /re-installed /dropped the RC viewer and am on the Second Life 1.23.4 viewer now and my problem is still there.
When I open my viewer and log on a window comes up and tells me there is a problem with my connection or the servers and I have choices .. to teleport home .. to go to help or try again.Whenever I try I get the message "you have been logged out and s/l must close"
When I open the viewer the second time it runs normal ..well for S/L that is ..
I'm beginning to think the problem is that the viewer doesn't shut down properly when I exit the game and causes this problem the next time I open it.
I tried sending LL a note but since I'm on a free account they ignore me .. one reason I don't participate in the RC any more or send crash reports either.
But anyhow has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks for your time.

That is usually more to do with server latency, than Client issues. To test this, if you have an alt account, or have a friend in sl on say skype, when you cannot login, ask them to IM you, or use your alt account to do that. After a relatively short time, the message 'User is offline' will appear, resetting your account status, so you can log back in.

Server 1.27 has seen this issue back in SL, it comes an goes. Ghost prims next no doubt.

Runs fine for me, You'll be happy to know it could be one of the last with development now concentrated on Snowglobe and the 2010 Megaviewer. :)
Has no where near the issues 1.16 had and a lot more cool features than 1.0 :)

I agree, I really miss looking at that information. Also, I learned by seeing how others' constructions were put together, and now I can't.

The prim count info is above the tabs now, so you can see it no matter how you're editing something.
