Ok.. Ive put a help ticket in on this.. Not supriseingly I have yet to hear a single peep from them.. So perhaps I can get a hand from someone here..
When i updated, the update wouldn't load.. So like a good little lemming I went to the SL page to download the update.. No big deal.. Well.. No big deal until after i updated sl and low and behold.. Now my Sl cant find the server.. At all.. Remember back in the good old days before there was the grid status when sl starts up? Well thats what my page looks like.. and as much as i like to walk down memory lane.. If sl dosnt work.. im not happy..\
Now Ive rebooted the computer many times.. Uninstalled sl a few times.. reinstalled it more times then i would like to have.. cleared my cache more then once.. Heck Ive gone so far as to try to use an OLD sl install file to see what would happen.. and.. You guessed it.. Nothing..
Any good ideas aside from jumping ship from sl to another social program???

Good luck on ya help ticket When you formated your hard drive and reinstalled your OS and all your programs did you remember to go and get all the latest drivers for all you devices? All those drivers were removed when you formated............and just like your programs they have to be reinstalled. Specifically check your video driver. For you other two........I haven't much of a clue. I upgraded with no problems whatsoever. But I will relate something that happened to me a few weeks ago that I would have sworn was Second Life's problem and nothing to do with my end. I was very wrong. After spending a couple hours cussing LL and SL for not being able to access the game (uninstalling, reinstalling deleting the cache folder checking for latest drivers, etc etc) I thought I saw a little slowing of my internet. It was a very small difference such as my email opening and instead of taking a second to connect to the server it took two seconds. I rebooted and nothing changed. So I decided on a whim to cold boot my router and cable modem..............and it fixed everything!!! Email was back to being like normal and SL worked. It's worth a shot.

i realized that when i installed and ran the new SL on the desktop, the one that don't work... i never saw the form that you had to check off saying you will follow the rules, etc... and i did when i installed on the laptop.. the next time i tried to sign in it came on. so.. im going to read the other posts on that topic and see if that is the problem... I will post an edit if it works!

Strange behavior
09-21-2007 04:08
When I added that "manditory update" yesterday, all seemed to go well until I took one of those "Magic Carpet Rides" on a date.
When I stepped off the carpet, my avatar was immediately shot skyward and would not recover. I tried to TP to "home" - to no avail.
Logged out and re-entered - with no luck and the avatar was still rising. Tried to re-boot, both soft and hard re-boot, but my avatar was still enroute Neptune.
Unloaded the program, and reloaded - but the avatar was now nearing Pluto.
The "On Line Help" Tab was useless as tits on a slab of bacon.
Only by going into the tabs at top, and choosing "Movement Controls" and pointing the "Fly" arrow downward was I able to finally return to Mother Earth.
Now I am afraid to close that box and it remains on the screen.
Can anyone tell me how to contact a Mod or Admin while in the virtual world?

Yes, before the update, I got a new Vista and it was actually working pretty well..after the update, I can't stay inworld more than a few minutes -- I crash and crash and crash. My old computer actually works a bit better than before...this one...very useless now...

damn vista
09-21-2007 08:44
and of course, SL does not support vista even though i was forced into it by buying a new computer....GGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRR.. justl like being forced into this new update by SL... yes.. once a patient person but I am being tested by the Gods of SL and microsoft...
anyway.. to post what i have found out so far, hoping to get someone more knowlegeble to help me...
SL also worked fine with my Vista before the update, so I looked into other programs that I updated that have browsers not owned and supported by microsoft.... and they don't work either. Here is what I have done to date and nothing has helped
*restarted my computer multiple times *cleared all cache and temporary files in browsers and SL *reset my modem *completely uninstalled and reinstalled the new SL updates 2 times *checked and made exceptions in all firewalls on my computer *reinstalled mozilla
Now what I still get when trying to sign in: *SL opens up quickly and easily *that generic SL screen without the grid status shows up so I know its not getting acces to the net *after a few seconds, the message that I should check the grid status online to see if there is a problem .. and something about no DNS.... *also still no terms of agreement for this download because its NOT even able to access the net *mozilla browswer in general also cannot access the net even though i have also made exceptions in my firewall for it.
suggestions? I think it is time for a ticket that will not be responded to.....

Getting new computers without vista: www.lenovo.comLenovo offers XP Downgrade discs upon reqest to anyone with a Lenovo IBM. As far as I know, that is the only way to get a new computer without Vista these days (besides buying XP separately).

Let me see if i understand symantec virus software is the problem? If thatrs the case there will be many more SL members having this same problem since many use symantec virus software. If symantec virus software was a little used program i say OK its not big deal. But many people on sl will have this problem on sl. There has to be a better fix on LLABS side. This should not occure.

Thanks be to the requirement to install 1.18.2.1, I now have a laptop that refuses point-blank to connect, and a business in-world that requires my attention... Everythin was fine with the previous version... and now nothing...
I've turned off ALL firewalls and disabled anything on the box that could potentilly cause trouble connecting to Second life, but I instantly get flipped a "despite our best efforts" error message when I try and connect - something I usually associate with not having the wireless router switched on...
...which evidently it is, because I'm browsing the forums...
The Laptop involved is just 10 months old and running XP...
Any advice please?

~K~ Dont get my reply wrong, I was not saying it was not helpful. Its just stange LLABS has not explain this to us. But then again LLAbs is always getting information out late for many issues and problems.

usagi.. im not offended..lol. no worries... but i am not so suprised.. SL never informs us until we inform them. i dont think they have anyway to know all the problems until we tell them... just the nature of the game... i guess we should always send in tickets... but i still try and fix it myself first...
Kallisti.. i dont know which version was on the desktop before i deleted it.. sorry.

SL requires MORE memory than b4
09-23-2007 12:07
I have done just about everything that you all have mentioned, and still lag. A few of my SL friends had me check my memory on my laptop from help (in world) and then to about SL, well we found out the problem is from lack of memory. Since LLabs did the upgrade you now need more memory to run this crap, and not to mention a better video card that is about $150. So this is going to limit SL use by many of us that were able to run it just fine before the upgrade, and I am not happy with it and thinking seriously about deleting it all together. My laptop is only 2 months old, and I refuse to upgrade my memory for some SIMS game (especially since it worked fine b4 the mandatory upgrade), not to mention the fact that I am a single mom and struggling to make ends meet now). What you need to do is go to system requirements and see what they are now, and you will find out that you might have to add more memory and get an expensive video card.

? I just looked at the system requirements, and the memory requirements (256MB minimum, 512MB recommended) are the same that they've been. Similarly, the video card blurb is the same. Of course, you and I both know those are too low, but the official word hasn't changed, I don't think.
But I do agree that something seems to have changed in the software in the last week that puts more stress on the low-end systems. My laptop is completely unable to run SL now, and it did fine before. This is the case with many other people as well. Sure do wish LL would cop to what changed.

I just know that my sl friends said that the reason for my lag is that I dont have enough memory, which I have the 512 and my SL ran really good before the upgrade. I even deleted a bunch of games that my son had on here and it is still lagging. I am frustrated and not happy with SL now, and to think I was about to get a premium account and buy more lindens (SO GLAD I DIDNT DO IT!). Thanks hun for the reply, as it did open my eyes that it couldnt be my memory!

512? you might get more now. Memory is not the costly and will increase you playblity. i don`t care what the mini Req says ( oh you can play at a low level) but frankly if your running below 1 giga your asking for problems.
